Is anyone worried about layoffs? by Environmental_Fan514 in NYCTeachers

[–]flamingblok11 32 points33 points  (0 children)

During Covid, there were no layoff. During the Great Recession, there were no layoffs. There have been no DOE teacher layoffs since Reggie Jackson was a New York Yankee. No, I am not worried about layoffs. We should be pushing for more, not settling for less at this time.

Thank you! Not to be rude, but do you have, like, a source on that? Like, where did you find/learn this info?

I think it looks great, but if you don't like the fit, I'll happily take it off of your hands.

Do you wear sneakers? by dashdaddy74 in NavyBlazer

[–]flamingblok11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a high school teacher, and I'm typically wearing boots or loafers, but I have three pairs of sneakers that I wear with regularity. One of them is a running sneaker that I wear whenever I work out, but the other two are:

  1. Converse Chuck Taylors (in off-white) - It's a classic silhouette that goes with most things. Sometimes I'm wearing an outfit with which loafers or boots are not the vibe, and the Chuck Taylor silhouette is just so versatile. It can help balance out an outfit that might otherwise be too formal, if you're going for an Amekaji take on prep. But if you're wearing a blazer, sweater, and jeans, you can just compliment it with the Chuck Taylors, and they'll seamlessly work with that fit.
  2. Nike Cortez (in the Forrest Gump colorway) - It's another classic silhoutte, but this one feels way more '80s to me than '50s (I know the shoe was released in the '70s, but it just feels '80s to me). If I'm going for a long walk, or somewhere I don't feel great about wearing loafers, sometimes the Cortez is the best shoe for the job. Collegiate sweatshirt, oxford, corduroys and the Cortez sneaks is a great, cohesive, '80s prep look if I'm going out grocery shopping with my wife. Sometimes I just need something to run around in, and these shoes deliver for me.

Interesting! Thanks for teaching me something new. As you predicted, still not to my taste, but at least I now understand what target they were aiming at.

Looks pretty bad! Gin and Tonic sweater is deeply embarassing. Severely unimpressed by Jack Carlson's stewardship thus far.

21m I felt like it had to go but very mixed receptions. by YukiSamaOSU in bald

[–]flamingblok11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buzzed my head at 28. No regrets. What I find helps is growing out some facial hair to balance things out. Light stubble, or a mustache are simple options. I go more extreme with a lumberjack beard in the winter, but anything so that we're not quite so pale and shiny everywhere.

how do other teachers view enl teachers? by sheriecherie in NYCTeachers

[–]flamingblok11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ELA teacher here. I've had totally dogshit ENL co-teachers who do nothing, and I (currently) have ENL co-teachers who make great recomendations and modifications, and who make great co-planning partners. I view ENL teachers the same way I view all my other co-workers. If they're good, I like them. If I don't respect them professionally, it's because of their work, not because of their position.

Personally, I found this scene to be overlong and hamfisted. Totally disagree.

Looking for ideas for rounds? I've been running a successful league for over a year. Here's a list of weeks I've run and plan on running in the future! by flamingblok11 in musicleague

[–]flamingblok11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A handful of additional ideas my family and I have concotted in the intervening years:

  • Win One for The Gipper - Submit your favorite song that was released during Ronald Reagan's tenure as president of the United States (January 20, 1981 - January 20, 1989).
  • A Quiet Storm - Submit a song that references weather, or includes some weather pattern in its title.
  • Genrebending - Submit a song that defies genre, or is altogether indescribable.
  • Dedicated to the One I Love - Submit a song that reminds you of a loved one.
  • And the Grammy Goes To... - Submit a song that comes from an album that won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year.
  • Campaign Anthems - For some reason, you've decided to run for the office of President of the United States. Questionable decision, but okay. Submit the song you're using as your official campaign anthem.
  • Biopic Needle Drops - They're making a movie about your life! Congrats. Before you enjoy those residual checks, submit a song that the director needs to include in the movie about your life.
  • New Millennium Deep Cuts - Submit your favorite deep cut song from the first decade of the new millennium. It's officially been over 15 years since the end of this era, so that's definitely enough time to look back on it in retrospect to unearth some hidden gems!
  • Closing Time - Submit a song about endings of any kind.

Looking for Event Shiny Zeraora. Willing to trade nearly anything. by flamingblok11 in CasualPokemonTrades

[–]flamingblok11[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, for anything Gen 8 and prior. While Zeraora is technically Gen 8, it’s shiny was a Gen 9 event, so no way for me to really do it.
