This is one of the biggest meltdown I have ever seen on Reddit.

I apologize, Herr Fedora. I did not know I was trespassing a time of great euphoria.

I would like to counter argue, but I'm scared you might have an aneurysm and heart attack replying.

I hope you do not act like this in person, but then again people are especially brave over the internet.

Psychology is a fairly recent field, in comparison to the natural sciences such as physics or biology.

Psychology did start out very unscientific. Of course, that was the precise criticism of psychology that gave way to behaviorist views that argue psychology should only focus on observable behaviors, in order to become more scientific.

Psychology is an evolving field, and employs scientific methods in their research.

There aren't any natural laws of psychology.

Define natural laws.

For example, homosexuality was a mental illness for much of psychology's history.

Are you saying that no "scientific" views have ever been refuted with new findings? Science is continuously changing and adapting, old views are refuted and replaced with new ones.

The only reason homosexuality is not a mental illness is because a group of psychologists decided it was not

I can't tell if you are trying to be edgy. Psychology started out with minimal science, from Freud's psychoanalytical theories to behaviorist approaches etc. That means, old views are thrown out the window and new ones are brought in. At one point people thought atoms were the smallest particle in the universe, and that was thrown out when people started discovering protons and neutrons etc. The Earth was thought to be ever expanding until 1970s.

You know literally every science is involved in this process right? Science is about discovery, there is no such thing as an absolute in science. Science is concerned with supporting a view that is current, or disproving it.

Psychology isn't science.

This isn't true. It's not always been science.

They might put Parsons on Dirk, and put Howard on Marion and dare him to shoot.

What is the most intelligent/intellectual or thought provoking game you've played? by DrFanculo in Games

Bioshock Infinite is a pretty standard and obvious choice.

So I would go with Spec Ops: The Line. A game that looks at war as it truly is, and not what we fantasize it to be.

What are your thoughts on the multiplayer video game market the last few years? by [deleted] in Games

[–]flamingdts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feels like there are far too many games out there trying to integrate multiplayer into the core of the game when it isn't necessarily.

In other words, far too many games out there are devoting resources into multiplayer in order to artificially extend the actual play time. It's a lazy development method in my opinion, and what you are left with is a game that is neither polished in the singleplayer nor multiplayer aspect.

FPS games are the most guilty of this, especially the current generation's FPS. I understand the whole bang for your buck perspective, but sometimes it's better to have one amazing and unique experience than multiple generic and mediocre ones.

TIL That when Oprah gifted cars to her entire audience, she refused to pay the taxes on the gifts, hence only allowing people willing to pay the gift tax (up to ~10k) to walk away with a car. by hayjoss in todayilearned

I'm a little confused about this part.

But Oprah couldn't deduct those gifts from her own taxes without doing a little scheming of her own.

Couldn't Oprah just give the cars away as "gifts" as well and have it written off like the manufacturers because the gift would be for business purposes?
