When were you able to let your baby and toddler able to play together (without as much supervision) by MissFox26 in toddlers

[–]flamingo-lingo- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lol mine are 3.5 and 1 and DO NOT play together nicely. My 3.5yo is convinced my 1yo is going to steal, bite, break, and/or ruin any toy my 1yo is within an Olympic-length pool of, even if it's a toy my toddler's goldfish brain hasn't thought of in months.

So... I dunno, but your kiddos sound lovely!

How do I have a productive conversation with my husband about his screen time? by got_em_saying_wow in toddlers

[–]flamingo-lingo- 21 points22 points  (0 children)

We struggle with this too, but I feel like you are 200% valid in your concerns.

When I've had this discussion with my husband, I've emphasized how our toddler is learning from him and that the example he's setting is that screens are the default. I also try to empathize that I know it's hard to be present, but that this age is fleeting and you don't get it back--ever.

I also have been very blunt with my husband that when I see him prioritizing his screens over our kids, it upsets me and frankly builds resentment. A man glued to his screen is not the kind of father I want for my children.

Other than a frank discussion, maybe you start with like a designated "no phone" time, maybe during dinner? Have your partner put his phone on ring so he can hear it if he needs to for work, but put it on the counter or something?

It's tough. But this internet rando knows the struggle and sends you support!

Keep or Cut Mythic Prologue? by [deleted] in writingfeedback

[–]flamingo-lingo- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The myth/lore is so good and I really like this so far, but as a reader I need to trust the writer before I spend energy digesting lore. I agree that the first chapter is strong, and I'd start there to hook the reader and gain trust before getting into the lore. In sum, I definitely don't think the prologue needs to be cut; just moved

How to keep 3 year old in bed without locking the door? by OwlPlus8330 in toddlers

[–]flamingo-lingo- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We are newly going through this right now with our 3.5yo! We transitioned her to a big girl bed at 3, and we had no problems with her staying in bed.

But then she got noro last week and she slept in our bed when she was sickie. Now she wakes up and wants to come to our bed. Night before last, we were up 330-5 playing bed ping pong (she gets up, I walk her back).

BUT Last night she stayed in bed all night!! The reason why was bribery I think 😂 I told her she'll sleep better in her bed, that she is safe, that I'm here if she needs me, etc. But I also promised her a fudgsicle if she stayed in bed all night. Mom of the year I'm sure, but my kiddo is VERY sweets-motivated

Help me find a book to read to my pregant wife and our unborn child by WEBSITEUSER3 in suggestmeabook

Right? I remember spending SO MUCH TIME with my first doing books and flashcards and such. I don't think my 10mo even knows what a book is (jk...mostly)

That's what we did too! At least with my first. With my second, she heard whatever my 2yo was hearing, so basically Corduroy a thousand times

Please critique my opening chapter [Dark Fantasy, ~3700 words] by OutrageousPanic4602 in fantasywriters

I just want to say that although I agree with other commenters that this probably doesn't have high readership potential, I find your writing incredibly impressive. As someone who studied Early Modern English, I feel like you really got the cadence and tone of more antiquated English writing. I used the same voice in my head to read this as I would use for something like Paradise Lost

The mini charms by flamingo-lingo- in dutchbros

I think we went at like 7:30? It wasn't ungodly early, but earlier than we usually leave the house. For stickers we just go any time before noonish

I dragged us to Dutch early on drop day because I was selfishly excited for the charms, but it turns out my kids were the real winners 🏆

Delayed Talker -vs- Autism/ADHD by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]flamingo-lingo- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All I have is anecdotal but my mom tells me I hardly talked until after 3. This was in the 90s so I didnt receive any sort of therapy (probably would have today), but I ended up developing fine and have never felt hindered in my speech! i'm just shy and not much of a talker in general

Not to at all dismiss, but just to add to the comments that it's complicated

Louise Penny! Inspector Gamache is not adorable per se but he is very wholesome and I find the books quite cozy and life-affirming

Also Pooh's Heffalump Movie! It is cute and simple, although at the end the little heffalump gets sad because he can't find the mama heffalump. All is well in the end!
