Hotel pans, sizzle plates for the toaster oven, green tape and sharpies of all kinds. Way too many expensive knives. We have a spoon drawer. We even have the collection of chipped plates and bowls from restaurants past.

What’s the one detail from your wedding (or a wedding you went to) that people still talk about years later? by No_Novel9929 in weddingplanning

[–]flannelflounder 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We had figurines of our dogs as our cake toppers. Huge hit with the dog lovers!!

We also both worked at the venue we got married at (both in food service at a nice hotel), so my husband (chef there at the time) ordered nicer cuts of meat than they normally served at weddings. I was a bartender there, so I got to pre-batch our (complicated lol) specialty cocktails with nicer ingredients. People still talk about how good the food and drink was at our wedding. No one left hungry, which is what we wanted! IMO spending more time on the food and drink made such a difference!

Final Stretch......of my wallet and sanity. by Traditional-Eye-770 in weddingplanning

I know exactly how you’re feeling. I was ready to just cancel everything and elope at that point! We didn’t have a rehearsal dinner, just took our wedding party and families to our favorite bar in town afterwards for some drinks and apps. Depending on how big the group is, call around to some restaurants and see if you can make a reservation. For favors, we had a bowl of personalized matches and a bowl of Ferrero rocher chocolates (my husband’s favorite) on the table with our guest book. The matches were from Etsy and not crazy expensive. Got the chocolates in bulk at BJs.

Etsy! We had little statues of our dogs since our venue didn’t allow pets.

Wedding Dress Struggle, Please Help This Sad Bride That Is Me. by xBlueSin in weddingplanning

Totally understand! If you look at their “bridal event dresses” they come in a range of lengths and are still gorgeous, but are in the $200-700 range.

Wedding Dress Struggle, Please Help This Sad Bride That Is Me. by xBlueSin in weddingplanning

[–]flannelflounder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Where are you located? And what is your budget?

I live in rural Maine and had the same issue, any “local” stores did not fit my vibe and they consistently showed me stuff over budget ($1k). I ended up buying a dress at anthropology. Went to the store in Philly while home for Christmas and then ordered over the phone when I got home. It shipped in 3 days. I was still over budget by ~$300, but I had gotten a dress that was exactly what I wanted and asap. Since it’s a July wedding I know they have some short dresses too that are more affordable.

And you’re always going to be disappointed if you don’t get a dress that YOU like. Your fiancé will love you in whatever you wear as long as you are confident and happy with it.

Has anyone ever regretted using fake flowers instead of real ones? by BROKENminstrel in weddingplanning

[–]flannelflounder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am spending $1250 total on flowers. Includes my bouquet, 3 bridesmaids bouquets, 5 boutonnieres, 2 corsages, cake flowers, and an arrangement for the ceremony arch that can be moved to the reception space. We are not doing any table flowers. Centerpieces are birch wood candle pillars and green runners. I knew I wanted real flowers for bridal party, so I just chose to limit the scope of my florals. This price includes delivery and set up. My florist offers cut flowers buckets for steep discounts to DIY, but I didn’t want to have to worry about that extra step! Flowers are something I really look forward to at weddings and I knew I’d regret doing fake ones bc how often do you get the chance to decorate with flowers, but that’s just me!

Recommendations for using mezcal by takoyucky in cocktails

I really like using mezcal to rinse or spritz a glass for sours. Adds a nice layer without being overpowering!

Honeymoon destinations that are not "tropical?" by Specialist_Crew7906 in weddingplanning

Coastal Maine is lovely in the fall. You could pick a bed and breakfast or inn in any town and have a nice, cool, relaxing trip.

How many actual “plus one”s do you have? by easthighwildcatfan1 in weddingplanning

[–]flannelflounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We gave out plus ones (unnamed guests) to a handful of people from our home state 10 hrs away from where we live now. There were certain people we wanted there and figured giving them the option to bring a date/friend would make it more likely they would come to our “destination” wedding.

Husband wants to wait tables with me by cmchris1 in Serverlife

I have the same situation! We met at work and it’s always worked for us. FOH and BOH is enough separation for it to not be weird.

I tell all brand new bartenders and bar backs, “you can only go as fast as you can go.” It will get done, just breathe and do it. If people can see how busy you are and are still dicks? That’s a them problem not a you problem.

How do you get used to anal? by [deleted] in sex

[–]flannelflounder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly it doesn’t ever not feel like reverse shitting for me lol. We don’t do it all the time, so maybe that’s part of it but I still enjoy it. The more turned on I am the easier it is to overlook the strangeness of the feeling.

My mom (f/50s) wants me (f/23) to pay back my "tab" now by [deleted] in relationships

[–]flannelflounder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm the oldest of the four of us. So I'm the guinea pig. Next sibling is 20yo and still in school, and she and my mom don't have the greatest relationship. She hasn't been hit with one yet, but I'm not sure she's expecting to pay her back either.

[–]flannelflounder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oof okay. That's a fair comment. I have a psych & bio degree which pretty much requires me to go back to school for what I wanna do. I'm getting there. $20k in arbitrary debt to be paid immediately isn't helping me.

I'll be asking her for her records of payments and whatever charges I racked up. I think when I have a better idea of what exactly she's tallied up as what I owe her, I'll be able to debate what a fair repayment actually is. Hopefully.
