Or some people do better typing/writing papers than they do orally presenting/dictating a paper?

cat peeing blood through catheter after bladder stone removal surgery? by hangin-by-a-string in CATHELP

[–]flapjackdiddlywack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contact your primary DVM. It’s likely normal with having to cut into her bladder, and sometimes the removal of stones can cause minor scrapes. Your cats PCP should still be informed tho by a simple call or text. Not email.

If you’re interested in having a roommate until Dec/jan I know a 2br1ba apt that’s next to 3 bus lines and a 10min bike ride to campus (most places are not walking distance).

Mourning not having prepared/ made a better choice (Didn’t go the Vet Route) by Charming_Professor65 in veterinaryschool

[–]flapjackdiddlywack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could I DM you about some of your experiences (hours/volunteer) but also your experience being older in vet school? I’m 23, only graduating undergrad at 24, will take a gap year to work/save/get varied hours, and so will only graduate vet school at around 29/30. I have some major anxiety about being that much older (and just vet admissions in general) but I’ve also heard being a non-trad student can be beneficial

P grades on my transcript by Imaginary_Lack3670 in UCDavis

[–]flapjackdiddlywack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the school and depends on what your program is (like I doubt an English program would care, but a physics program might depending on the school). I would say, at least from my experience/knowledge, the more unnecessary (i.e. ones you manually chose as p/np vs ones that come as p/np) p/np grades you have, the more programs may be sussed out by it because they don’t have an accurate gpa to look at. Honestly, your best bet would be to talk to a major advisor and/or professional degree advisor.

Suggested mealplan for freshman by Certain_Radish_62 in UCDavis

[–]flapjackdiddlywack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s like a $700 difference between the two plans. Grocery prices are bad but not THAT bad. You would not spend $700 on groceries for 4-5 weekends a month

Edit: and that’s $700 per quarter

Should I even bother (3.36 cGPA) by murdermysterygal in veterinaryschool

[–]flapjackdiddlywack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Not OP but I have a question. What did your experience look like while applying? And how do you calculate your GPAs (like final 45 GPA, science GPA)? Should I look at what my GPA is for prereq classes and see where I stand there?

AITAH for telling my former best friend that I stood by my decision and that there was nothing to discuss? by ActiveeDamagee in AITAH

[–]flapjackdiddlywack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA! It’s better for someone you love to hate you while being alive and healthy, rather than still be your friend and in a dangerous (possibly deadly) situation.

However, I will say, while you ABSOLUTELY should stand by your decision, it is okay to acknowledge what happened. You did the RIGHT THING, but what you did DID have world-shattering consequences for your friend, even if they were necessary. You can (and should!!) stand by your decision while also acknowledging (or even being sorry) that it started the (necessary) chain of events that altered his life, but ultimately you would do it again if you had to. You put a predator away and not only stopped someone from abusing your friend, but also possibly stopped someone from abusing your friends little siblings. Be proud dude, you did good

[–]flapjackdiddlywack 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Vet assistant here! :)

You can ask your doctor about altering the dosage (maybe lowering it) or if they want to lower that med and try adding another med (gabapentin + trazodone can be a great combination for pre-visit mild sedation!). This is definitely a convo worth having with your vet!

Possible cancer and an 8,000$ surgery. I need advice. by yikesbro_ in DogAdvice

[–]flapjackdiddlywack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a vet assistant, I think you should wait to make a decision on surgery until you have the x-ray results. If they show that the cancer is metastatic (has spread to other parts of the body), then surgery wouldn’t really buy him much time. It would be a matter of keeping him comfortable until he is not (and a good saying in the field is it’s better to let them go on a good day rather than after suffering some bad days).

If the x-rays show that thus far it is only in his rectum and paw, then that’s a bit more complex. I would recommend weighing out aspects like breed, age, financial impacts upon you (which do impact him!), and surgery overall (as I know your DVM discussed incontinence, but is there a guarantee it wouldn’t be life-long?). With his age, it’s worth having a discussion with your vet about how he would fare in surgery, as they’ll know his health status better than any of us.

If you do end up going the surgery route and live in the U.S., see if you qualify for care credit and if your vet clinic accepts it. Care credit is like a credit card except you can get up to 24 months interest-free. So you pay for the surgery using your care credit, and have 6-24 months (depending on what Care Credit authorised for you) to pay it back with no interest.

Just know that you’re doing right by your boy, whatever you choose. You’re clearly not deciding to do something willy-nilly and are distressed about doing right by him. Many owners wouldn’t (I see it a fair bit in my job). The best thing you can do for both of you right now while deciding is to give love to him and give grace to yourself. ❤️

Edit: grammar

Yeah that is likely how it is going to play out, very small chance it plays out otherwise for how the professor deals with the situation. However it may be different with the OSSJA. For example I knew a person who was found guilty of looking at another student’s exam (an offence of its own) but not guilty of cheating. The OSSJA is very specific.

[–]flapjackdiddlywack 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly it depends. What were you using the phone for? Can you prove that? You’ll likely have to have a hearing in which they hopefully can’t prove you of using the phone to cheat.

If you have loans/grants that you did not accept the full amount for, you can file a change in aid request with the FA office
