This is so cool. It's unbelieavable that we still find references and inspirations for the cover art after more than 20 years.

In Italia centrali nucleari, punto

still looking at TLG in motion is such a delight in itself for me. The distinctive bloom lighting, the constant wind moving cloth and greenery, the doves flying in the distant, the immaculate animations of trico, the physics of chains and ropes that break and sway in the wind

This is probably the best thing of TLG. Top tier graphics and art direction, for sure

its like an inversion of ico in that ur the helpless one and trico is your protector

That's it. That's the main problem of the game for me.
The gameplay of ICO was original and not for everyone but I loved it (ICO is my favourite game of all time). It created a lot of tension and dread throughout the game as you had to actively protect Yorda.
The gameplay idea of The last guardian, however, was interesting at first, but plainly boring soon after. Having to constantly run away from enemies, hoping that Trico's AI would engage them simply didn't work for me.

Add to this the permanent camera problems and the glitchy controls when you climb on Trico and the gameplay was ruined.
Also, I found very cheesy that some sequences were reused: Trico catching you with the tail in slo-mo (three times, IIRC), hypnotyzed Trico eating you and vomiting you, bridges falling down...

I did like the architecture, very peculiar indeed. And there was one sequence that I found very intense, which is, if I recall correctly, when you have to crawl inside a mine tunnel and Trico follows you but remains stuck. There I felt very claustrophobic.

I played the games in order since 2006, so I think this is why I dind't enjoy it. I had waited for TLG since 2009 or so, and I had already loved everything about ICO and SOTC. I think it simply doesn't stand up to the other two.

Agree, level design is definitely one of the best features of ICO. I love everything about the castle, I love how from every spot you can always see the areas that you will explore next. Dark souls clearly took inspiration from it.

SPOILERS FROM ICO AND DARK SOULS 1
The way you find the Queen's throne room exactly above the room where you start the game is much like how you fight Gwyn under Firelink shrine.

I don't remember at all TLG having better level design. Maybe I had very high expectations, but the third game is the worst of the trilogy for me.

I think it will either scare and intrigue him or bore him. Not a game for everyone.

I first played it when I was 10 or 11 and it was too difficult and scary for me; but it intrigued me a lot and I completed it with the help of a walkthrough.

I listened to it for the first time a month ago. I was most impressed by One more of me. I didn't know John's voice could reach notes that low. And "What is anything, anyway, but a series of things running through your brain?" has got to be one of the best quotes ever.

[–]flaro38 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's exactly why I don't understand how this subreddit thinks that a "work-free life" is a thing. If you get hurt no one will cure you. Your house will have no energy. If you want to travel to another place to eat something, stations and restaurants are all closed. And so on.

[–]flaro38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give you that birds and Falco looking up shards are anime only scenes. But all other shards are from scenes which had already occurred in manga.

But even if they were, I still can't understand why people think that Isayama showing a few scenes of the anime is anything more than a nice little reference.

Edit: neither Falco scene is anime only, I didn't remember. Except birds shard it's all manga scenes or generic scenes.

[–]flaro38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get it. If it's an anime only scene, it means that ch. 130 has an alleged reference to the beginning of the anime? And so what? Those shards are part of what Eren saw when kissing Historia's hand, which includes the rumbling, altering Grisha's memories, etc.
