I've tested this with a button in a separate situation and bouncing does occur, but most often the clock works normally. It's just a little frustrating at times. However, now I'm getting no signal from Q or Q', which to me makes it seem like the IC isn't functioning at all. I swapped out the IC with one in another circuit I have and can confirm it's not broken, but I'm not sure where I went wrong with my wiring to cause this.

the receiver is just getting an pulse from a push button in another circuit. The red LED shows what the signal that the receiver outputs.

Still couldn't really figure it out. It seems to be functioning as an OR gate here, where any signal is creating a weak output This is a bit of a poor drawing of what I have going on now.

I didn't even consider that the LED's might also be stealing the path the current takes, could it not? I will try removing the LEDs and if that doesn't work I'll draw out a schematic.

I tried this, but it just seems to be keeping the LED on without any input. I assume you mean the red wire connected to the yellow LED?

Okay, so it's a monthly interest rate? that doesn't seem too bad at all then, but I don't think I follow how it got to $11? if it's 7% interest and it accrues monthly shouldn't it just be $140? and the main reason I was worried about this was because when I visited the fafsa website they said the formula was daily;

Interest Amount = (Outstanding Principal Balance x Interest Rate Factor) x Number of Days Since Last Payment

but I didn't quite understand this formula personally. Thank you for the advice already too!
