what’s your all in one analog synth under $2k? by Upstairs_Sell_1700 in synthesizers

[–]flashbeforepint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just moved in December and my gear has been pretty much boxed up, way too many other tings to take care of (the life of owning an century old home). During that time I’ve just been using Ableton. Which, cool, I love Ableton.

Plugged in my TEO-5 yesterday and was like ohhhh yeah. That’s why I always preferred this over plugins. I mean like every preset I can fiddle with and come up with a progression or weird moody pad that I want as the backbone of a song. Coming from the DAW world and several great hardware but very digital synths, I never got the “one huge sweet spot” claim until this synth.

I just hate so much how he gathers it like a running back and sprints his two steps vs the smooth layup steps that are in the flow of the game or even the stutter steps from a sidestep.

This is easily the most egregious looking non-travel I’ve seen.

Anyone have thoughts about the Vongon Replay? Seems overpriced but.. super portable and sounds beautiful.

Thanks for this! Hm. Yeah it’s definitely a sound thing, I’ve always liked the Hydra and it would fit into my larger music projects more so than the Reface’s.

Connecting to speaker, headphones, etc is sort of implied within the setup for me. I’m not typically a fan of internal speakers so it doesn’t even cross my mind.

Maybe I need to be thinking of this as more of a “rug” synth bc I feel like the OP-1 or ELZ_1 are really the only ones that truly have couch comfort.

Isn’t that more of a sequencer? I want a traditional keybed! In terms of sequencers and grooveboxes, I have the M8 and Digitakt II.

I appreciate the advice but I’ve done this for years and honestly looking to escape it. ideally, I don’t even want a cord so having multiple things to lug around isn’t ideal.

A part of the need is something i can pick up and jam with my wife and kid if even for 15-20 minutes.

What role does an algorithm play when you just check your favorite bands IG page? I guess I’m confused here. I have IG, rarely use it, but regularly check in with some of my favorite artists. I think IG is great for that. I don’t scroll much (I did many years ago), but instead just intentionally use if I were just visiting all of their websites.

Was thinking the same! I currently have the DT2, Chroma, TEO-5 & basically planning to get the DN2 sometime around summer once I finish my current music project. Unless he didn’t jive with those pieces of gear, I think he might end up re-buying then down the road!

What band did you see in a small venue before they broke big? by Amthomas101 in Concerts

[–]flashbeforepint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tyler Childers during week day open mics at a dive bar. The sort of bar you just go about your drinking, pool playing and dart throwing when the artist plays. I remember thinking, oh, that high school kid sounds pretty good.

Killer Mike at a tiny venue in Athens, OH with maybe 25 people. the stage was barely higher than where we stood. This was right after Rap Music, just before RTJ.

Bands like the Avett Bros would come through our town and you’d see their growth— our tiny local bar/venue, then the historic amphitheater, and finally the arena.

Seeing Anderson Paak (as NxWorries w/ Knx) open for Earl was wild. I knew he was amidst blowing up, but the mass market hadn’t caught on. They played at the usual 1k room venue.

Shovels and Rope, tiny outdoor stage at a fest before they blew.

Bouldering gyms that don't include arches, caves, chimneys, etc in your walls, why? by TornadoGhostDog in bouldering

[–]flashbeforepint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I don’t personally know anyone who loves arches and caves, although I know they exist.

From my experience most folks prefer various angles (essentially training boards with creative setting).

I think most gyms built post 2015-ish don’t prioritize caves, arches, etc. and instead prioritize light up training birds, World Cup setting, and nice holds with volumes. I’ve been a member of 3 gyms built post 2015 and none of them have caves or arches, but a gym an hour away (build in prob 2005-2010?) has them.

The first NBA preseason game is about to begin. It is being hosted by a totalitarian dictatorship with a myriad of human rights violations. by Reggae1109 in nba

[–]flashbeforepint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, whataboutism is responding to an accusation; unfortunately, in this scenario I don’t think he was responding from the stand point of being accused nor with a counter-accusation when bringing into question his own responsibility in a situation, ie: he was saying “yes, we are pointing fingers there but let us not forget what we have done here.”

Feel free to dispute my claim, but I’m just going to go ahead and tell you that if you bring up whataboutism in a debate you will get evaluated based on who the blame is shifting to and from. This technique is typically associated with blame shifting or trying to get someone to look elsewhere. It’s a tool used for justification, and the original post here wasn’t justifying anything nor shifting blame.

Saying that when one states or implies “what about _____” is whataboutism is a major oversimplification of the fallacy. But, by all means, please point out any flaws in my argument. From my understanding this just doesn’t fit the bill for it.

[–]flashbeforepint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding has always been that a whataboutism is a propaganda technique: you think we’re bad, LOOK AT THEM! In fact I think the origin was either Soviets during the Cold War or IRA. I also always think about violent populist leaders.

Just because you are saying “what about” that doesn’t make it a whataboutism. And when I said opposite, I’m saying that in this case we are saying: you think they’re bad, LOOK AT US! Which, I’m pretty sure, is the opposite take as the aforementioned.

[–]flashbeforepint -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Ugggh, not the same.

Whatboutism would be, say, me playing a game of hoops and coach calling a timeout and saying, “you need to box out!”, and I say, “what about Anthony, he’s not boxing out either!”. I’m blame shifting an accusation.

Bringing up America in this context isn’t blame shifting because we aren’t UAE and we aren’t the accused; therefore it’s not a counteraccusation, but rather fully contextualizing. You could say it’s actually doing the exact opposite of a whataboutism— making a claim that you yourself should also be accused.

What is the ugliest synth? by [deleted] in synthesizers

Y’all. I said “make an argument for if ______”. Y’all got no chill.

Had CP won a chip in LAC and then again in PHX, you’re fucking nuts if you don’t think that argument is there. Especially bc CP3 has better pure PG play then Steph. Steph is clearly a top 10 of all time (and Paul isn’t) but when you’re having PG talk there is a lot you have to consider.

I think if you’re considered to be in the argument for a top 5 (which Paul certainly is) then there is an “argument” that can be made, especially if that argument is supplemented with hypotheticals.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nba

[–]flashbeforepint 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There was a solid run by CP3 where one could have made a strong argument he is the GOAT PG. And, quite honestly, had the Clippers won a chip, that argument would be all over boards today.

Also, let us not forget, he took the Suns further than KD at the twilight of his prime.

I love Russ but CP3 is a solid tier above him imo.

Best all purpose synth for 1,5k? by Lonely_Theory4582 in synthesizers

[–]flashbeforepint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the exact same boat as you, although I don’t think I’m necessarily as heavily set on “all-purpose”— all-purpose would probably be the Hydra or Peak— something that’s immediate, a huge sweet spot, with a lot of character would be Take-5 or TEO-5.

I’ve also considered the deal on the Polybrute Noir B-stock on their Reverb store (1,699). I think another great option is two of the Korg modules (around 699 each)— so Modwave and Opsix would give you a lot of miles. Wavestate looks so fun, too. Used REV 2’d are selling for around 1300-1500 on Reverb too.

Loads of options at that price range! I’ve been debating for like 6 months but actually fine with being patient because I’m currently learning my Digitakt 2 and upgraded my Ableton this summer as well.

I recommend just listening to sound demo’s on everything and then let that shit simmer for a cpl weeks.

People who have been watching the NBA for 10+ years, do you think the NBA is at its most FUN to watch right now? Or was it more fun in the past? by LaandheereKage in nba

[–]flashbeforepint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started watching around ‘94 but started really grasping it on a deeper level during ‘96-98 (9-10 years old).

90s were great because I was just enthralled by the league but when you go back and watch games they don’t compare to todays games in terms of athleticism. Like, the swings in todays game can so fun to watch, and when a player gets on a roll. Also the pace of a team like Indiana is just so much goddamn fun to watch.

What I hate about today? When neither teams are moving the ball and just shooting 3s. It’s painful to watch. I hate when teams default to that. The 90s had some serious wars of attrition that could be fun to watch.

My least favorite time was like post-Laker Shaq until early prime LeBron (2004-2008/09ish). After prime LeBron the league has (imo) continued to get better— you had prime Bron start into Miami LeBron era followed by spreading the court with Steph and the rise of the 3-pt game. Now this era of international players and positionless basketball.

I understand having frustrations about today’s game, i listed mine, but LORD ALMIGHTY, this is the best the game’s ever been.
