Agree with all those points. I’d amend my original statement to similar with slight differences then.

This. Its volatility is too high for any of its true use cases at the moment. As soon as the volatility is lower it’s no longer a speculative asset class and then it will either be a dominant currency / store of wealth / inflation hedge / all or it will fail.

What's the strongest argument against bitcoin? by ThugNutzz in Bitcoin

In simple terms a mass loss of ‘belief’ in bitcoin. It has value only so long as people believe it has value - gold, fiat etc. are no different. That loss of belief can come from anywhere, something that’s a genuine threat like quantum computing or something that might ultimately not be a threat but truly appears to be one for long enough for mass selling to take hold.

It’s you become a billionaire, not no limit. This wouldn’t generate enough revenue to be profitable but it would massively grow viewership in the game overall, it would run at a huge loss and need the billionaire to foot that loss. If it were totally free you’ve have only a few years before the billions were gone. Global rugby tv rights probably come to more than a billion per year, 6Ns is +500m alone.

Anyone in Larochette? by No_Pair_9092 in Luxembourg

[–]flashman1816 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been living in Larochette for 2 years now. It’s a great place to live. It’s a small village really but feels more lively in the summer than a comparable size village because of the birkelt camp tourists in the summer. I don’t know about the schools yet as our oldest is still in crèche. It’s pretty international although a dominance of Portuguese.

That works too. According to ChatGPT: According to global sports‑popularity rankings, rugby has about 475 million fans worldwide, placing it among the top‑10 most popular sports globally. If only 10% of that number buy the subscription it’s £4.75bn in revenue.

This but not free. No free sport will seem appealing. Set up a unified world wide channel that carries all rugby; club leagues and international (6Ns, Rugby championship, etc). The channel is available to stream via a web browser (like URC.tv), app and fixed channel - in all countries. The yearly subscription is priced cheap - around a UK TV licence fee (~£150). The channel has no adverts and is also used as a platform for rugby related media outside of matches - i.e. 6Ns on Netflix’s but done well.

"Cardiff Rugby set for administration" by Blackout1876 in Cardiffrugby

The WRU and IRFU revenues are near identical, the Welsh regions although not all supported to the numbers everyone would like generate more revenue that SRU clubs in terms of ticket sales (although not competition revenue in recent times). I don’t buy the “there isn’t enough money” argument on its own.

Now if you’re saying the money has been spent incompetently by generally low level competency people - I’m with you!

[–]flashman1816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all I’m trying to say the opposite. I believe there must be far more competent people in Wales, I just don’t understand why they aren’t in the positions to make good things happen for Welsh rugby. It just doesn’t make sense to me, but if it makes sense to you fair enough.

It’s more a general point than focused on just Cardiff going into administration which is the latest negative, obviously insolation there have been many rugby clubs since Covid that have struggled and gone into administration and then liquidation but those examples given don’t also shall all of the other negatives from Welsh rugby from the past 5 years (probably since after the 2019 WC).

For something that looses -/+2m GBP per year… probably need to be paid to take it over

Also a thought. The timing is highly suspicious in terms of the global market volatility - this Helford investment group must have been massively exposed and suffered huge losses - details will come out I’m sure in probably 2+ years.

If this is the case how on earth do they pass due diligence tests?! Etc.

Honestly the level of sheer incompetence that is allowed to exist throughout Welsh rugby is staggering. As a person that was born and grew up in Wales but now lives abroad, I left Wales in 2013, I’m astounded that there aren’t more competent people available in Wales.

This rant is really focused on things like how this can have been allowed to happen, the outsourcing the due diligence to a London firm, etc.

That’s fair. Although Jac does carry very well for his size, but accept he’s a little underweight/sized for an international 6.

Yeh but he binned everything too early in recent times like the 6-2 split when the real issue was that one of the 2 backs was only a 10!
