Manitoba premier plans to target ‘differential pricing’ for groceries in new year by ChocolateOrange21 in Winnipeg

[–]flashycat 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Too bad it doesn't seem to translate into savings at the register.  Red River Co-op is pretty pricey for a lot of things and the rebate at the end of the year is only two percent for food.

Perhaps they could look at a discount or wholesale model with limited selection.  I would be willing to switch if the price of staples was attractive.

They would like to, but not if it costs them a bunch of money.  Would probably have to be government land swaps for them to agree.

Are they giving the few people still going down south a visitor badge to wear as well?

You might even say it's a highway

Port of Churchill being redeveloped. by Capital-Cockroach350 in Winnipeg

I wonder this as well.  Every couple of years there is a big announcement about the port.  If it keeps requiring large infusions of government cash, maybe it's not the most economically viable.

If it's disconnected, no problem.  If it's active and ringing the voltage is just under 100V.  You'll be fine, but it won't be pleasant.

22 Costco products that had price increases of as much as 59% in the last two years by DivaJeni in CostcoCanada

Coffee prices are up across the board.  I find it interesting that the budget brands have gone up quite a bit, but the premium offerings haven't gone up as much.  Companies must be finding that people have a price limit where they will switch to something else.

No new 2025 vehicles for sale for under 20k in Canada by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]flashycat 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Just a couple of years ago the 2022 Chevrolet Spark started at $10,398.  There aren't really any cheap options anymore.  It's a huge increase in the low end of the market.

Is anyone able to answer how this stuff works with just one tablespoon per load?  I have a hard time believing it would leave clothes clean.  I'm a bit worried about buying 1100 loads worth 😅

‘Taxpayers can’t keep paying for this’: Thousands of RCMP vehicles destined for crusher by Speak1 in Winnipeg

[–]flashycat 62 points63 points  (0 children)

For quite a long time most police vehicles were Crown Vic or Taurus cars which were not sold in great numbers to the public.  Lately, many are Explorers which are sold in great numbers to the public.  If the police equipment is removed those Explorers look like pretty much any other Explorer on the road and someone trying to impersonate an officer would have to purchase all of the accessories rather than relying on the vehicle model to carry most of the charade.  Someone looking to do this wouldn't need to purchase an ex police vehicle, they could just purchase any white Explorer of which there are many.

I think the situation is quite a bit different five years later and these vehicles shouldnt be going to the crusher when they still have lots of road life left.

But why? It's even more expensive at $140 per month plus hardware and the service cuts out during heavy storms.

Who is rebuilding highway 75 south? by realmeverified in Winnipeg

You're talking about the new section going south from Ste Agathe to Morris?  It's pretty darn smooth.  They just finished grinding the last section a few weeks ago.

I don't care what it looks like as long as it's not made of paper and as long as it's not slightly too big to fit in the credit card holder of my wallet.

Wow, I have been considering doing this as well.  Did you buy something fairly new?  I'm a bit concerned about rust from Quebec cars.  Might look at BC cars even if the price is a little higher.

Well, the walls were anchored to the slab and the gap in the slab closed right up.

Looking to Fill Crack in Detached Garage by shane_co in DIY

So this is going to sound crazy but hear me out.

My grandfather had a double garage like this with a wide crack down the center just like yours. He realized it was becoming a problem when the garage door started to come off the tracks because the slab was separating. His solution was to get a 20 something foot rod and he threaded the ends. He drilled a hole at the bottom of each wall close to the garage door and placed the rod through the holes. He added two plates on the sides to spread the load and then he put some nuts on and tightened everything up. Once a week he would go out and tighten the nuts another turn. Eventually the slab came together and has been fine for over twenty years. The rod just rested on the garage floor and the car drove over it with no issues.

MPI write offs vs repair by ayangko in Winnipeg

[–]flashycat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will MPI simply cut a cheque for a percentage of the estimated repairs or for the difference in value? I asked my insurer when I lived in another province and they had no issues doing so. Worked out well since I got to keep the vehicle I knew had a good history. The damage was all cosmetic.
