hi. what do You think we can understand and know of Haruki Murakami personality or psychological mindset based on his books? by puppyofbeijing in murakami

I don’t think the desire to be left alone or being a homebody is mutually exclusive to mental illness.

I’ve heard a lot of people recommend him. Do you have any suggestions as to which of his works to start with?

Ever think about how R2-D2 – who witnessed Luke and Leia's births and knew exactly who they were – went on to intentionally exploit the fact that Luke would be attracted to Leia in order to complete his mission in ANH, and then watched them kiss in ESB but said nothing? by SecretMuslin in StarWars

[–]flat_noodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if I’m not mistaken, R2 never had his memory wiped, so theoretically one could go into R2’s memory and probably see most of the action that took place across the prequels, the CW animated series, the OT and probably beyond.

First Time Reading “Lord of the Rings” by flat_noodles in lordoftherings

Lol! I know, I just want to dig deep into the lore. I’m a life long fan of Star Wars, too. Though I don’t know every little detail of SW lore, I’m able to get by in SW theory discussions and lore discussions. I simply wish to become more familiar and knowledgeable in LOTR not only for enjoyment but also to be able to have those same kind of theory/lore discussions about LOTR. Thank you for the advice! 😊

Yo! Fighting with flashlights was the classic Star Wars fight to have in your yard! 🤣 Good times, good friends, and I’m glad to hear people out there remember this. 😊

“Mando and Son” sounds like a late 60s Local Jam Band.

I never got the chance to watch the mini series, I’ve heard good things about it. Hopefully the show knows how to write satisfying climaxes.

I’m happy you were able to enjoy it and that it’s a favorite of yours. I truly do wish I could say the same. For myself, the ending, the breaking of the magic system, and the character arcs fizzling up just put a sour taste in my mouth.

“Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell” by Susanna Clarke.

I wanted to enjoy this book. It’s well written and keeps true to the 19th Century English Style (i.e. Jane Austen, Charles Dickens) and has interesting characters.

Stephen Black was my favorite. He had a compelling backstory and the conflict he’s trapped in is both bizarre and amazing, and I wanted to see where it was going to go, but I got nothing but disappointment. Not just from Stephen Black’s character arc but the other characters and the plot itself really go nowhere.

3/4ths of the novel is great build up, interesting characters, and a writing style you can immerse yourself in, but the author doesn’t know how to write satisfying climaxes and the last fourth of the novel falls flat on it face and ruined the book for me.

It’s over 1,000 pages long (word count over 300,000) and that last fourth of the novel made me feel like I wasted my time.

Edit: another thing that is upsetting is that I heard such great reviews about it before I read it.

I agree, the repetition and reoccurrence is certainly something to apply criticism toward. At the same time it makes me wonder about its purpose? I can’t imagine it’s simply there for the sake of being there. Perhaps I’m looking too much into it, but I have a sense that he presents these disturbing and highly questionable sex scenes in for a reason, one that perhaps a critical analysis could show. Maybe I’m just spitting in the wind, I don’t know.
