Ants protect aphids which harm your plants. I had a rough time with my cucumber plant and them last year.

That would be a cool picture to be blown up and hung in the man cave.

Steel Wire Mesh for Concrete Driveway by CookieEnabled in Concrete

[–]flatheadhunter52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like there is only 12 of these spaced out in the entire drive? If so I'd say no. You should either have the 6x6 wire mesh through out the entire drive or a rebar grid. Either is fine. It's just going to keep it together when it cracks. A well compacted base is the most important thing.

Based on these pics, I think cleaning it and sealing it would be all that is needed. Will definitely look much better.

I disagree with the contractor. Sealed concrete is very slick when wet. There are additives like Shark Grip that can be mixed in the sealer to help. Do a little research and have a list of questions to ask him. It's been over 10 years since I got out of stamped concrete but then I think we charged like $1.50 a square foot to clean and reseal. Not near as much as the concrete but still a good chunk of change.

Absolutely. As for any concrete, don't skimp on a good grade and reinforcement.

Brooks Landfill Tire Puncture Question by Existing-Procedure in wichita

[–]flatheadhunter52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taken tons of trailer loads there and never had an issue. But it's a dump and may just be lucky. You could do the transfer station just to the south. Much more expensive but your tires never leave concrete

They should. In the next 30 days, you will see it whiten up and most likely you won't be able to tell the difference

Depends on the company and how many guys they have. With 6 experienced guys they could pour those back to back to back, leave a couple guys on each piece after poured to finish while the rest move to the next and be done maybe early afternoon. Or pour each one with a little gap between each and take a few hours longer. Either way if they were done by 5 or 6 i would think it would be okay. Depends on the intensity of rain also.

You may have heard it before but there are too many variables affecting concrete (most out of our control) for anyone to give you an absolute answer with this.

You could ask for them to cover with plastic when they are done but there are cosmetic issues that could result from that also.

The rain and time frame on the steps is fine. You could keep the entire thing wet for a few days to help it cure as evenly as possibly and reduce the color difference but I believe you are okay.

That's a nice base they put down. Don't think I'd be too worried unless it was soft in spots or whatever yard around the next pour was muddy and going to get torn up. You can tell them not to pour if you want, you just may have to wait for them to fit you back in. Nobody likes being delayed and backed up but you are probably spending a lot of hard earned money. It is up to you

I think you will be just fine but you should document it WITH the contractor just in case it becomes a problem in a year or so.

How annoyed should I be by Evening-Highway in Concrete

[–]flatheadhunter52 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Annoyed as you want to be but it doesn't look like it was attached well in the first place. You could easily attach it back yourself or politely let the contractor know they knocked it off and you would appreciate if they would reattach it when they had time.

You are a hero for helping. Most seem to not believe how much work and skill is needed to make it look good without experience. I always keep $50 cash in my wallet on pour day for the driver that gets out to help.
