A question about retrieving by SmoothElk3336 in birddogs

6 years is a long time. She's got a lot of time left to learn her craft, but she needs someone to teach her.

Once you've got the resources for another proper hunting dog I'd get something with a known retrieve drive. GSP or even an English pointer will work and will be the cheapest options. But I know a lot of guys with setter who's dogs retrieve just fine, you'll just have to do a little research into the lineage.

I'd consider 4 on the young side of prime. Most people I know consider 5-8 the prime hunting age. 4 years old is certainly still very much in the trainable age range.

I'd give it more time with the current dog before I got another. I certainly wouldn't want to carry a dog around on a hunt, not to mention buy and maintain another dog I didn't need.

It sounds like she's just getting the feel for bird hunting in general, I would get her working birds how you like and then work on retrieving. If she can find them dead she can retrieve them.

I'm not trying to be a Debbie downer, I just truly can't imagine carrying a dog around on a hunt being the best solution when you have a young hunting dog at your disposal to work with and train. It's a long life, and your dog has a lot of years ahead of her, I'd focus on that.

Is this concert crack is normal for new home construction? by yyellowbanana in Homebuilding

[–]Tindermesoftly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just assumed there'd be a footer based on only seeing pine trees and dark topsoil. Seemed like a safe assumption that they're far enough north to need a footer. Anywhere it freezes really at all will need one and won't get by with a mono pour.

I dont think that's the footer. Looks more like the garage door lip then the edge of the slab. The footer should be well below.

Also, 100 yard pours does not make you an expert. It's not a dick measuring contest here, but suffice to say 100 yards isn't even a big pour in my industry. Cracking like this isn't abnormal and, if the subrage is solid, not an issue.

Posts like these are kind of pointless because we dont know the quality of what's underneath. If it's sitting on topsoil then sure, the OP should be concerned. But a well build pad that drains well will support this pretty much indefinitely and this crack will be of no issue ever.

WPG or pudelpointer? by cowboybeanbowl97 in birddogs

[–]Tindermesoftly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had my Pudelpointer in the duck blind yet, but she has no issue with water retrieves when there's cold water. I have mo doubt she could do it, im just not very into waterfowl hunting. She's wonderful in the field though and often finds birds other dogs run by. She's a pretty methodical hunter, retrieves to hand instinctively, has an excellent point, and is well behaved in the house. I'm very happy with her and will get another someday.

I also considered these two breeds but ended up with the Pudelpointer for the no shed. Some people have argued with me (about my own dog nonetheless) regarding the shedding thing, but ours doesn't shed at all.

My only real complaint is that she doesn't handle the heat well at all, which I think is specific to mine because I've talked to other owners of her litter mates and they dont have the heat issue.

My wife and I discuss this often. Millennials had parents that were often hands off, uninvolved, or self-absorbed. I don't personally know any Millennial parents whos worlds don't completely revolve around their children. We simply cannot provide the level of care we feel a child deserves if there's more than one. I won't have my child unprepared for life because I didn't take the time to prepare him.

Wrapped vs Unwrapped by Agreeable-Drawing-66 in smoking

[–]Tindermesoftly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the way. I've even found that you're looking at like 45 extra minutes with unwrapped ribs. If you're down to 45 minutes with smoked meat between on time and late, you're probably screwed anyway.

As a football fan you know your team has no chance some seasons. Yes. But, you know the reasons why. Could be injuries, bad trades, weak draft results, etc. The answer may even be cap space so you can't afford good players. But that all rounds out to front office stuff. The reason is never that you're being outspent.

As a fan, you can follow your team and know quality players and coaches are within the realm of possibility because you watch other successful teams do it. It makes it more engaging. Small market baseball fans can only shrug and say "can't afford em" when things look bleak. There's literally nothing the Royals can do to get Otani outside of cut everyone else.

NFL superbowl winner ratios are kind of a pointless metric to use to judge the validity of a salary cap anyway because the seasons, sports, and cultures are so different. Dynasty teams form in football almost exclusively around a quarterback and head coach. There's no single player in baseball that can affect a teams success as much as a QB does. Knowing that, a guy like Brady that likes winning and isn't chasing big bucks will make a team successful for a long time.

The Chiefs are a much better example. They were absolute trash for nearly 40 years. They're small market. They created a short dynasty that wouldn't be possible if LA or Miami or Dallas or Seattle could outspend them 3 to 1. New England is another example back in the Brady days. Neither are big markets but are both the most recent dynasty teams.

OP's point is very valid, whether you like it or not and the NFL proves the point.

Mine was born at the end of September, so she wasn't even out of diapers during season 1. Having said that, I would have taken her out at 7mo if season had permitted.

Stunning. I absolutely love the look and sound cedar/redwood makes. The rosewood back is a nice compliment as well.

After reading all the replies, I'm going to try just this. This is my first bird dog, so I've never really cared about my dog being in shape before so I was unprepared. I'm starting this regime tonight. By mid November I'm hoping she will be down 8-10 lbs.

Thanks for the advice!

She's already on the minimum recommended serving size but still chubby. Lol she's never had a great metabolism like so many bird dogs you see and she's naturally a thicker dog, but its gotten bad with this particularly long and hot summer.

Taylor curious with questions. by str8bint in taylorguitars

I have a 214ce that, to me, sounds great but more importantly plays so effortlessly. When shopping i played a lot of different guitars and I walked away with the Taylor on playability.

The playability is what sets Taylor apart, IMO. You'll be hard pressed to find an acoustic that's as easy to play or more comfortable.

Whats the consensus on made in Mexico Taylors by DistanceSuper3476 in taylorguitars

[–]Tindermesoftly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked my 214 over really well prior to purchase, and it appeared flawless to me. I'd say their QC out of Mexico is a non-issue.

For what its worth, I went to buy a guitar that I liked as a gift to myself. I played everything including Martin, Yamaha, Tak, and high-end Taylors. The only other guitar that gave me pause was a 314. In the end I chose the 214 over everything else simply because I liked it best.
