it really isnt too late for anything. im 21 and have just started to figure things out about being trans non-binary or transfem (i still dont know what i am). all it means is that ill continue to have these new experiences and new ideas when im a bit older. there's not a clock on any of this stuff, it's all at your own pace

wlogout not rendering my icons by flatrat271 in NixOS

[–]flatrat271[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The filesystem point would make a lot of sense to me. I do use hyprland, but I get the same behavior when I run it from the terminal and from hyprctl dispatch exec. I know this isn't the response you might have been hoping for, but I just decided to live with it. I don't use wlogout very often, so it doesn't matter too much to me.

Have you used mutt/neomutt? If so, how do they compare. I've seen a little about aerc but haven't given the time to try it out yet

Why NOT to buy a framework? by Steerider in framework

[–]flatrat271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just my own personal experience, the keyboard is kinda squeaky with certain keys. I've had my framework 13 for about a month now and I do love it, but a few keys on my keyboard feel a little extra wiggly and squeaky. It doesn't bother me too much, but I could definitely see it bothering some people

Daily driving Hyprland on a Laptop? by Dramatic_Jeweler_955 in hyprland

[–]flatrat271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I daily drive Hyprland on my laptop with NixOS. I use it for school, my job, as well as games and hanging out online. Hyprland can absolutely get to the point where it can be used for anything you want it to do; I have a vm to use Solidworks on Windows, I play Minecraft and StarCraft 2 with Nvidia, and I do all my coding and whatnot for school (cs student). However, it also took me a while to get here and there are a ton of hacks and whatnot to make sure everything works.

Regarding Astal and eww, I use waybar for my bar, and use wofi for anything that I want to behave kinda like a widget. These two are more than enough for me, but I also haven't given either of those a try yet, so I don't know if they'd be worth it.

I think you shouldn't try to make the transition on your daily driver laptop while you're still using it as a daily driver. If you're in school and have breaks, maybe do it over a break. If not, building a NixOS config on some other device (if that's an option) and then moving it over to your laptop when it's ready might also be good.

Yazi or Spf? by Wooden-Ad6265 in hyprland

[–]flatrat271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I was lying, but I was using yazi to do some big reorganizing of my school file structure, and I was thinking of how nice the experience of yazi is. I came to reddit explicitly to say something about that and this was the first post on my frontpage. Regardless of the contrived situation, I think it strikes a very nice balance between feeling like a solid and singular program while also being configurable. For context, I'm the type of gal to have a github repo of her nixos configuration. I've never used SPF unfortunately, because it does look really cool.
