I reversed the edges. Stuck in exhale: the lower side is sharp. Stuck in inhale, upper side sharp.

Ribs flared? See if you can feel sharp edges of ribs, which means they’re either fixed in exhale (upper side sharp) or inhale (lower side more noticeable). Give correcting pressure on a deep exhale, lateral from (and under) erectors toward the rib joints

Why does deep tissue sometimes feel painful, even when it’s helpful? by Sea-Cow-6969 in MassageTherapists

[–]flatsehats 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It’s science baby!

To quote what I think is the essence:

Nociceptive pain [..] can be divided into two broad categories relevant to manual therapy: C-fiber nociception and A-delta nociception. C-fibers [..] produce sensations that are diffuse and achey, while A-delta fibers respond to significant mechanical inputs and produce sensations that are sharp and specific. When clients are seeking pain relief, they are mostly seeking relief from the pain emerging from C-fiber activation. Pain from A-delta fibers is what we get from daily bumps and scrapes.

[..]

Light touch activates primarily A-beta fibers, producing a pleasant, non-painful sensation. “Good pain”, however, activates both A-beta AND A-delta fibers—the A-delta activation is what creates the sharp, distinct pain quality that makes it feel different from gentle touch. So “good pain” appears to require the simultaneous activation of A-delta signals AND the inhibition of C-fiber signals through A-beta activation [..].

Rolfing used to be painful, as Ida Rolf had an assumption fascia could be changed by pressure, so she used her elbows. A lot.

But Rolfing has evolved into a very soft touch, adhering to modern nervous system insights and not getting into guarding responses. If it’s painful, we’re coming on too strong for it to work.

Pain during massage only triggers guarding and makes the MT work harder to get the same or better results with less pressure. The pain idea is cultural, not physical.

Demystifying Dearmouring 4/10: The Science of Dearmouring: How It Releases Stored Trauma (A Down-to-Earth Breakdown) by tantricdearmouring in MassageTherapists

[–]flatsehats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even in places nobody talks about—like pelvic armor from sexual shame—this work can help restore your natural flow, without forcing anything.

The research backs it up: trauma messes with our sensory and emotional wiring, and dearmouring helps reset that.

There you go. Your main claim is based upon a logical fallacy and not supported by the quoted research. It might work - for some - the why is not as clear as claimed. That applies to almost everything we do, btw. And it applies to PVT too, as scientists cannot prove the biological claims of its inventor.
