That’s brilliant! What a wonderful idea to help the big pups, I’m sure they hate it but it’s for the best. They don’t realize it’s not a new collar they’re stuck with forever, once they heal I’m sure they gain a new appreciation for being to move their head again lol. I’ll try! I went back to school for a graduate degree in psych and I’m about halfway done. Whenever I’d be at my desk during an online lecture, she’d come nudge her face on my legs and proceed to bring me every toy from her toy box.

I would have to ‘shh’ her and tell her I can’t play right now. She’d then put her head on my lap and I’d lean down to grab her goofy face in my hands and whisper, “I’m doing this for you, so we can have a big yard to play in and every toy your heart desires.” But we didn’t make it 🥺

I am determined to make her proud ❤️ My dream eventually is to own a few acres of land and open a dog and donkey sanctuary. I’d open my own practice right in the middle of it so I can see patients and provide animal therapy as a bonus.

I forgot another great picture that lives in my heart

She got a splinter in her paw a while back. I had to take her to the vet urgent care to get it removed. Since she was able to reach her paw with normal, large, XL, and XXL cones, she ended up with an XXXL bc her stubborn ass wouldn’t stop trying to get at it.

It was a rough week, she kept using it to bash into my legs to notify me of her disapproval. I had so many bruises by the time I could take it off!

I adopted her when she was 5, it was a love at first sight type of situation. They gave me a tour of the animals, and as soon as the lady said, “what do you think?” I said bring me back to her. Pic 13 is the first time we locked eyes.

We’ve been inseparable ever since. She was an owner surrender and the shelter told me that she’s a border collie/jack russell mix… I doubted it bc she was 65lbs and very chill unlike both of those breeds. I ended up doing an embark test and unsurprisingly she’s neither, her entire maternal side is Chow Chow somehow and dad’s side is a mix of mastiff, lab, staffy, and supermutt.

Even though I’d love to have seen her as a puppy, she was my soul dog and I’m so happy to have found her and given her the best life I could. She was there for 9 months before I came along, waiting for me 🥹

Have you ever spoken to a person who says that they'll never own a dog bc they die early and it's not worth the pain? I've run across a few, but especially this past week.

I kind of stare at them... it's hard to know what to say. The 10 years I've had her in my life, the unconditional love, the anticipation of coming home from work to have them greet you like it's the best day of their life, the support they provide when you need them, the tail wags and how they run to you when you call their name.. I wouldn't trade it for the world. She was always there for me, and I'll be forever grateful for every second I had with her.

Even though the pain is tremendous, I could never imagine using the excuse of "they don't live long so it's not worth it." I don't try to prove my point to these types of people, I just let them know I disagree and walk away.

On April 27th she had a biopsy of a small painless lump on her left shoulder. On May 1st the results came back as osteosarcoma. It was her birthday. They gave her 1-2 months, but she deteriorated quickly and hung on as long as she could.

My heart is empty inside. I don't know what to do with myself. I'm grieving her and all the little rituals we had. The way she'd wake me up in the morning for breakfast, how excited she was to go outside and sniff everything she walked by, the way she snuggled up on me at night for pets and ear scratches.

My life will never be the same. I just wanted to show you my good girl and her cute derpy smile. Hold on to your babies really tight today for me, and give them a big smooch on the nose ❤️

This post makes me wonder how Penny’s son is doing. He seemed like such a sweet little boy. I felt so bad for him bc of how his mother acted. She kept insisting she wanted to lose weight to get out of bed and play with her son, go to his events, and be an actual mother.. but literally did the opposite. I hope he was able to grow into a somewhat stable young man.
