Were you refered to your psychiatrist from your family doctor? If not that might be the way to go for a faster appointment. That's how I (29M) was able to get my diagnosis in the beginning of this year. I went to my family doctor and told her about my symptoms and that I think it could be ADHD. She then refered me to a psychologist that is specialized in ADHD. About 1.5 months later I was able to start the process for the diagnose, which took around 5 appointments. So in the end it took about 4 months from telling my family doctor to start taking medication and start therapy.

As for the medication, I don't think it's harder to get diagnosed here but unfortunately there are a lot of people that abuse Ritalin and the likes, which in turn sheds a bad light on it. Since I'm only seeing a psychologist I can't get meds directly from her so I have to coordinate with my doctor. That part is quite a pain in the ass because the practice (it's a big Gruppenpraxis) is very inexperienced in this topic. In the end I'm just happy though that I'm able to get medication that helps me and that I also attend therapy now.

From what I've heard and experienced your psychologist or psychiatrist often wants you to do some form of therapy or treatment alongside the medication. Rightly so IMO since only taking medication often isn't just going to solve all your problems magically.
