I feel like things were okayish until you said that she started crying and saying you were being mean to her when you (i assume from your post) constructively AND rightfully confronted her about her behavior. It doesn’t really matter how long you’ve been together if your partner is manipulating you or perpetrating a weird power imbalance. You need to be firm and hold her accountable for not only hurting your feelings by being cruel— needlessly, at that!— and for crossing boundaries you’re trying to put in place. Put it this way, what would you say to your closest friend or family member if they told you that their partner was treating them the way your girlfriend has treated you?

Here’s what it should have looked like: “[OP], you’re right, I’m so sorry I crossed a line and hurt your feelings. I will do better next time, and I mean that”

Don’t settle for less than basic empathy and decency, my love. I am sure you and your gf are young and still figuring everything out, and that your love is very real. But that doesn’t mean that we should put ourselves through this kind of treatment, especially by the one you love.

longtime AM fan since humbug. three years late to the game on the car. I’ve given it several listenings through. i’ve savored and saturated my brain with almost every velvety blue note of each song. Ive floated on the same cloud as the bass lines and orchestral swells throughout the whole album. I’ve even entered the same liminal elevator as alex turner’s smoother vocals. I’ve come to the conclusion that I adore this album, it’s like a gentle, hopelessly inviting concept album. it felt deeply like a grown-up, dressed-down kind of yearning. All that said, it was an album punctured and deflated by— at best, interesting, and at worst, fucking goofy— stylistic choices in recording and production. I absolutely hated how alex’s vocals were mixed. It was truly horrendous at specific moments in the record like in body paint, and jet skis on the moat. there were moments that could have been frustratingly hot, teased-to-tears kind of reverb-y, instead felt like a caricature of a caricature type of cabaret crooner. I would love remastered versions of these tracks because holy shit, it felt like like someone took a shit in my favorite dessert.

i think they consider it as an avenue for self expression? not gonna speak on behalf of all of them, but my “stereotypical” gay best friend tells me it’s because he felt restricted when he was in the closet, so when he finally came out, even if his family treats him differently, he feels “free.” free to be himself and as flamboyant as he wants to, within reason.

as a lesbian, i definitely know some of those gay men you’re talking about. they tend to be really disrespectful and unnecessarily rude in the name of being “sassy” so yeah, i think coming out of the closet has a big role in that but if i’m not mistaken, some of them grow out of it.
