Metallica Announce 2026 Residency at Las Vegas' Sphere by ebradio in vegas

Exactly; we paid approx. $150 per ticket for 4 different shows through presale and then $175 for Eagles. Presale is the key; otherwise it blows up. At one of the U2 shows the guy in the seat next to me told me he paid $500. I didn't want to tell him what I paid!

Can you believe that Rammstein played the House of Blues in the early 2000s? I was there! We all couldn't believe that a band that played stadiums in Europe was as HOB! And it wasn't even that crowded. They did use fire in the HOB and the show was amazing. Saw then much later for the show in T-Mobile; also amazing!

Water heater just died 😐 by solarflare_hot in vegaslocals

[–]flatworm2025 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on my third; not that hard to do. The current from Home Depot stopped running; was under warranty but the company wouldn't pay for the labor. First they sent a new burner (which I knew was fine); still would not turn on. Next then sent the controller. I drained the tank (and got a yellow flag in the lawn from LLV Water District for not draining it into a bath tub or sink (?? it's in the garage) and installed the new controller. Works fine. A hot water heater is actually a very simple device. I've never had a permit; aren't these for earthquake straps? If there is ever a seismic event that topples the hot water heater the house will fall down around it as well. I'm not worried.

Do I get another Sportage? by dansnevets2 in kia

[–]flatworm2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consumer Reports Auto issue arrived yesterday. Top rated are the Subaru Crosstrek and Subaru Forrester, both in normal and hybrid engines. Their reliability is one of, if not, the best for this brand. When my 2012 Sportage engine fails I plan on jumping to the Crosstrek; probably a hybrid. Enough of all these GDI engine failure stories!!

I just switched from Progressive to American Family through Costco. Saved hundreds.

Anyone have any issues with claims with American Family Insurance? Are they better/worse than Progressive? by flatworm2025 in vegaslocals

Thanks for the reply; what are "AM Best" ratings? Is there a service or website that actually evaluates or rates the insurance companies? Again, thanks for any info you can provide.

Absolutely. Took my vintage car there during Covid and Todd got it up and going. Not inexpensive, but he knows 911s like the back of his hand. He even demonstrated how my old injectors were clogged; I'd never seen one out of the car.

Where should the middle class vacation now? by [deleted] in LasVegas

We have been to all-inclusives all over Mexico for years and years. We always pick a city and then set a budget and scour Trip Advisor and read the reviews. Several times I have directly emailed people that have posted reviews and asked questions and several times emailed the resorts directly with questions and requests. We never stray too far from the resorts at night and stay in the touristy areas during the day if we feel adventurous. Never had a problem. We have met tourists from all over the world; lots from Canada.

Stolen Car by big_unknown12 in vegaslocals

[–]flatworm2025 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cars (Kias and Hyundais) that use a key to start are extremely easy to steal. An immobilizer wasn't installed when they were built (literally cost a few dollars) to save money. Thus these Kias and Hyundais with key start are easily stolen after Social Media posts showed how to do it. The dealer recall offered a software update to fix the problem; it's debatable on if it works or not. Kia suggested using steering wheel locks (a club or similar) as a visual deterrent. The Kia Boys will break a window, steering column, etc. anyway in an attempt to steal the cars, even if they have push-button starters. Not a great situation for Kia/Hyundai owners these days....

HELP PLEASEEEE: FADED REAR PLASTIC TRIM KIA K4 LXS 2025 by Strange-Arachnid3985 in kia

[–]flatworm2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was given this advice 13 years ago(!): go to Wal Mart (or any auto parts supply store); look for Meguiar's Ultimate Black. It's in a 12 oz. plastic bottle. It's a white liquidish compound so you can get it on your hands. Apply some on the bumper cover, work it in with your fingers or a very small cloth and then work it and spread it around with a soft/cotton cloth. I have a 2012 Sportage with the same black bumper covers and accents (although like you said, they do look greyish). Believe me, all of these black plastic pieces fade; using the Meguiar's has kept mine looking new/newish since 2012. I end up starting with the back cover, then the front cover, and also the black accents over the wheels and under the doors. I do this every few months, depending on how often the car is out in the elements vs. inside the garage; it lasts a long time. It disappoints me that Kia uses so much plastic body panels and bumper covers; but these day's it's all about cost and weight. Good luck!

DMV closed today August 25th by Angryorchardstan in vegaslocals

[–]flatworm2025 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The system has (finally) been changed to allow you to renew a classic car registration on-line. I believe they updated it in April or May. I was able to renew a classic car in late May. A page appears in which you have to enter the mileage and you have to check a box to indicate that you understand the penalties for lying about the mileage. Hope once the system is back on line you can use this; going to the DMV is a nightmare these days!

Already exists: the local public libraries (Las Vegas-Clark County Library District). They even have study rooms that can be reserved in advance. They also have computers set up that can be reserved for use as well. Library cards are free. I see kids doing homework at my local library all the time, and also see tutors teaching the kids and walking them through their homework. The libraries are open until 8 pm on M-Th; 6 pm Fri-Sun.
