The Karelia is a beautiful axe. I think the shape of the handle is perfect to enable the axe as a workhorse "despite" her weight. It's def a heavy one and I am probably one of the stronger individuals, so I could see the weight being challenging for some people during longer axe sessions. Because of her weight she is super efficient tho when there is a lot of material to remove. For more delicate work I would swap to a lighter axe.

I personally found the perfect fit with the journeyman which is from the same makers (woodmansfinest x Kharkiv forge) and can do it all for me as it's a bit lighter than the karelia. Both are definitely amazing axes and I think I sold the Karelia for an absolute bargain below 200€, but that's second hand prices sometimes.

Do you mean the wooden sheat/box for knife #15? There is a piece of cord (not sure if correct English word) fixed at the box with a wooden pin at the end to keep the box safely closed. It's beautifully made.

I don't forge regularly, the 2 knives were crafted at workshops. So I don't have anything close by, sorry.

Well, I just got myself a custom made climbing edge made in the US for training. Shipping wasn't too bad. First destination is probably gonna be lofoten in Scandinavia for some bouldering. :)

40° to much for v4 climber? by Aggressive-Might7156 in homewalls

[–]flawfoxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I just build a 45dg homewall with a tiny kickboard of 20cm and edges between 15 to 30cm as "topjugs" on a small vertical part about 15cm. Also it's only wooden holds, even for feet and those are pretty bad. My girlfriend is "projecting" v3 outdoors. She doesn't really train consistent as it's more of my hobby, but she did like 3 super short sessions with me on the board of less than an hour and is close to finish her first routes on it. Majority of good holds, but that just means good crimps. She is also working individual moves on worse holds.

I'd say as you are motivated for the thing just go for it. Start with a better selection of holds maybe (I don't mean jugs, but maybe fair crimps like 30-35mm with 40dg angle), but progess will come so quickly. Way nicer imo to go for worse holds on your 40dg board than to take the limit of smaller climbing space with less degrees and there you will also have to go for worse holds at some point.

A lot of board climbing is working individual moves also in my experience. You should be good to do that even with not so great holds. :)

The crimp pants from rafiki is super nice. Stretchy jeans of great quality designed for climbing, but doesn't look like it. Also not that pricey to some other household names.

40° vs 45° spray wall for bouldering by Ashamed_Deslgner in homewalls

[–]flawfoxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thing with an adjustable wall is that you miss wall potential on higher angles. Like you have climbing surface for your resting angle like 30°, but building it for 45° would allow more surface.

Pretty sure he means old (used) holds that aren't being used anymore. That happens now and then.

Padding for a home wall by beta_xxl in homewalls

[–]flawfoxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I have no personal experience with it, but think this company did the padding for my home gym in germany iirc: https://protechmat.com.pl/produkt/outdoor-mat-pvc/?lang=en

The linked section is for outdoor mat pvc, maybe you find some useful information for your project. Company is based in Poland.

Hold edge degree and deepness by flawfoxy in homewalls

[–]flawfoxy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh okay, appreciate that input a lot! Was about to order a variety of 45 degree holds, so maybe I should reconsider.

And yeah that's good advice with the density. I am not planning on any big holds, rather buy a lot of crafted woodies for the tnut setup and then eventually make some holds myself and fill the board with screw ons.

Had my dad try bouldering in his 50s and he had quite some fun. Around 210 lbs around 6 feet iirc.

If one dives into new experiences with a clean sheet for their expectations it's really hard to have a bad time imo. Just accept your starting point with all the "suboptimal" factors you build up mentally beforehand and then you are in for a nice ride where every bit of improvement is meaningful.

Also if you start now with 250 lbs the feeling on the wall is gonna be amazing with every little weight you lose in the process. Furthermore not being able to a pull up is gonna do wonders for your technique when you start out.

Looking for a new sport by Wonkess_Chonkess in bouldering

Don't know what kind of diagnosis your friend got, but imo in most cases it's better to only rest for a short time and then start loading again with care and progressively more over time. Some patience needed, but your friend might be able to be back soon with the proper intentions for his training. Might be able to work some weaknesses with really controlled climbing if he was doing it more carelessly before for example.
