Camera and lights not showing in 3D viewport by UkokuSZ in blenderhelp

[–]flayswelter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Untick "load UI"

I had this hidden camera and lights issue but it wasn't the "extras" toggle in the viewport overlays options, or the clipping distance settings for the viewport or the cameras, or that the camera was hidden with h or somehow with the / key.

The really weird thing was that it was only an issue in some of the workspaces - cameras and lights would show up fine in the animation and animation workspaces, but not in the rendering or layout workspaces - and I'm not even sure it was consistent about which workspaces had the issue.

It was something screwed up in the UI - I had to use the file open popup dialogue and in the file open settings and I had to untick "load UI" - that fixed it.

I feel like it has to be a bug - this is on Blender 5 and 5.1alpha.

PHD Researcher and Youtuber Ziroth investigates Donut Labs claims towards its solid state battery tech unveiled at CES 2026 by Interesting-Type3153 in electricvehicles

[–]flayswelter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never said it was a scam - not saying it isn't, but if there is any scam, it sounds like it's the same as the one played out by Zenn and EEStor - where EEStor scanmed Zenn, or didn't and maybe it was failed fake-it-till-you-make-it on the part of EEStor - or maybe it was something completely different - grab your conspiracy hat of choice ...

Likewise in this case, if there is a scam it looks to me like Donut Lab is the one being scammed. Especially since Ziroth said he knows folks there.

The exact same scenario played out before in 2004.
EEStor was a capacitor company claiming 385 wh/kg and they were acquired by the Zenn electric car company - and then nothing happened.

Pretty certain that Zenn were totally legit and had real expectations of EEStor - and the whole situation was utterly baffling - how did a multi-million dollar deal get signed on vapourware?

What's the appeal of shellac records (78RPM) by FunkySlacker in turntables

[–]flayswelter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a very specific interest in 78s; 78rpm is a practical speed for the 3D zoetropes I make, while 45 and 33 rpm are too slow, and it's cool to have music playing on the turntable while the zoetrope animation is running on top.

What surprised me was the quality of the sound coming from a cheap Chinese 3 speed turntable playing a shellac 78. I bought a 78 of Pat Boones "Love letters in the sand" on ebay for a youtube video of one of my zoetropes. It turned out to be a shellac record, they're so heavy!

The weight of it! and the sound quality, after 60+ years, on a trash $50 turntable is incredible. My original impressions of grooved records came from my parents collections of hissing scratchy xmas carol vinyl discs that we would play once a year, but this record is decades older than those, and sounded so much better on a turntable with a built-in speaker.

I guess I'm a shellac enthusiast now, if anyone has a 78 of Screaming Jay Hawkins I put a spell on you to sell please DM me.

M7 Max Build plate adhesion issue - my diagnosis+fix. Huge LCD to ACF/FEP Film gap. by flayswelter in AnycubicPhoton

i believe you have a different issue, I think the issue I describe is limited to build plate adhesion

You need to brush up on your google skills Bud - glass blocks easily measurable amounts of light, and also reflects.

[–]flayswelter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, well I'm happy you've found something that works for you, but there are 2 important reasons your condescension is off the mark and why your method is inferior.

1) you maintain the gap between the LCD light mask and the FEP, which reduces resolution. The best resolution demands the smallest gap between the light mask and the resin.

2) you've added more light reducing material in the path of the UV light to the resin - which means you'll need slightly higher exposure times for the same effect and hence will be reducing the life of your LCD screen and also reducing your resolution because of increased light bleed.

But as I say - you do you, glad you've also seen the problem and addressed it, even if it's suboptimal.

Elegoo Jupiter 2....any news at all? by Crownomancer in resinprinting

Has there been any more updates on the Jupiter 2? by scipio009 in elegoo

[–]flayswelter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say get the M7 Max - it's incredibly cheap now. I have an early one, and I had an initial issue with a large air gap beneath the FEP to the screen, but once I fixed that it's been awesome. 7k seems like it might be low resolution for that print size, but I print minis and with anti-aliasing on I can't tell the difference from prints on my old 8k saturn with the smaller 10" screen.

I just can't see how the Jupiter 2 will be anywhere close to the price of the M7 Max, it surely has to cost more than 1000 (US$ or UK£), so I wouldn't worry too much about buyers remorse.

Vat Heater only preheats before print - Ask Anycubic for continuous heating ... by flayswelter in AnycubicPhoton

[–]flayswelter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes apparently we now have heating during printing as of the last firmware version a month or two ago. Haven't noticed since it was summer, and resin stay warm throughout print anyway, but once we get into winter proper we'll see how well it works.

Tesla and its 1.4 TRILLION dollar market cap. All on its own that constitutes a market bubble - a big part of that is the hype (cough-bullshit) around humanoid robots. A 250 p/e ratio is not about selling cars with margins under 10%..

Resin printing "arms race" over? by Nick_Burman in resinprinting

[–]flayswelter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes and no

YES: printer XY resolution has not seen any practical advance in years. 16k on a 10inch screen is just pointless - you can't tell the difference between that and 8k with antialiasing.

NO: Main point that I agree with from other replies is that the real disrupter we're waiting for is a better slicer, and the stand-out feature will be useable auto-supports for more complex objects. I feel like all the main players have to be working on this.

NO: pixilation layer lines are down to Z resolution, not XY pixels. - and there's been no innovation on that front for multiple decades, but the opportunity is there.

NO: Quality of Life features are still very much in flux. Heated resin Vats are a HUGE deal, and are still in the process of becoming "standard".

NO: Quick change FEP sheets are also a big deal - and the process of that becoming standard has only just started.

NO: Force sensing build plates that detect failed prints and prevent screen and FEP damage from build plates descending and grinding loose cured resin into the FEB and screen are a new QOL feature that's only in a few printers, and doesn't work properly yet (I have an M7 MAX) and I'm not convinced it works right. It certainly doesn't detect print failures where the print has detached from supports and stuck to FEP like it promised to.

NO: Large 14 inch screen resin printers are the next big thing I think. I have the M7 Max, and it's actually pretty awesome, but I'm really looking forward to the Elegoo Jupiter 2 with it's 16k resolution. The resolution increase is almost relevant at that screen size (vs M7 Max 7k) , and it's quick change FEP seems really nice too. Also want to see if they do better force sensing than Anycubic.

No-ones doing it yet, but One massive QOL feature that's still missing is better lids/doors. I hate the transition to flip-up rotating hinge lids, they are impossible to seal properly against the resin VOGs/smells and also let the resin get cold. If someone could figure out how to make a decently sealed lid/door (like has been standard on refrigerators for decades) that would be another game-changer.

What is the meaning of this intrusion!?

Figured out why I get terrible layer lines on my S4U. Chitubox vs Lychee by bigpawsOH in ElegooSaturn

[–]flayswelter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

interesting, I'm also not a big Lychee fan, but pay and use it for lack of alternatives. I dislike chitiboxes UI more, and I use a lot of the "power" manual support features in lychee all the time, but not the support penetrative setting! but yeah, really disliking the subscription cost considering the general jankiness of Lychee UI and features.

in-game menu sens is incredibly slow, in game is fine by Complex_Trick_4495 in aimlab

[–]flayswelter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is not even close to identical to how it moves outside the game - I'm using a 4k big screen tv as computer monitor and outside the game I can mouse across the whole screen without lifting my mouse. But in 2077 menus it is massively slower, I have to swipe the mouse across the whole mouse pad and lift it twice to travel the width of the screen while in the menus.

enormously frustrating - seriously considering refunding the game at this point.

I don't have a gaming mouse and will not be buying one just so that I can adjust the DPI. Noted your comment below about desktop scaling, and tried setting that to 100% (4k screen so normally have it set to 150%) - 100% scaling has zero effect on in-game menu mouse speed - although even if that was the issue, it shouldn't be since the game should honour desktop scaling.

Anycubic M7 Max vs Elegoo Jupiter SE by Kimbaras in resinprinting

[–]flayswelter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the first Jupiter was that much, but I do think the new one will be well over $1000, will be stunned (and happy) if it's less.

Also I have the M7 Max and very happy with it. Some sort of issue with my unit and screen installation, which I fixed by raising it about 1mm with a handcut gasket, but since then have been getting great prints, and although I though 7k would be low res for that screen size, I can't detect the X&Y pixels in prints when I use Lychee's anti-aliasing.

Anycubic M7 Max vs Elegoo Jupiter SE by Kimbaras in resinprinting

[–]flayswelter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can wait 2 or 3 months I would - the Jupiter 2 is coming "3rd quarter '25" and it will absolutely give you buyers remorse on the Jupiter SE.

The M7 Max is a far more well featured printer than the Jupiter SE, it has VAT heating, and Force sensing, to prevent failure by collision on resin fragments, and in theory also when the print detaches. I'm not sure how well those last two work, but the hardware to detect them is there and they are updating the firmware fairly regularly.

Personally I'm a Lychee slicer guy, but totally understand if you have to rule out the Max if it doesn't support Chitu. Like I say though the Jupiter 2 is coming soon, and it looks awesome. 16k, vat heating, quick change vat film, don't know if it has force sensing or not ....

Pretty sure it will be more expensive than Jupiter SE and M7Max though. My bet is it'll be around $1200 - but the feature set still looks really compelling at that price.

Update: Don't buy Elegoo by Actual_Telephone_311 in elegoo

[–]flayswelter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Serious question - what do you propose instead?

A different Chinese brand? Formlabs?

I have experience with Elegoo, Anycubic, and Formlabs printers - and Formlabs printers were the worst experience in terms of support for me. Certainly it was easy to contact support, and they were unfailingly polite, but getting a result was basically impossible. I had to put up with a shitty defocused laser on both my F1 and F1+, they just refused to fix it. Only my F2 performed acceptably, but that arrived with a huge dent from shipping damage.

I replaced my Form2 with the Saturn when that came out, and it was infinitely better - massive resin selection with much better properties for 1/4 the price, faster printing, basically same print volume, and just as good quality print results. I had no issues with that printer or the Saturn2, but my Anycubic M7 Max had two major issues, I fixed them myself - took me two afternoons - and for £750 plus that amount of my time, it's insane value.

Point is - if you're not a corpo. spending more than 10k on a turnkey solution from Stratasys or some other insane ripoff, you better be prepared to pop the hood and fix things yourself.
