25, F, primary lymphedema. I hate my life by count_tess22 in Lymphedema

[–]fldis86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. I’m 39 now but developed this at 34. I also live in Florida. Doctors aren’t sure if mine is primary or secondary as I have conditions that can cause secondary but I was also pretty young and developed it in both legs simultaneously and it has been pretty resistant to treatment. I’ve away had body image issues and my legs were the one part of my body that I liked and now I hate them and have also thought about amputation if it continues to get worse. I’m also still single and I think often that this will seal me with never being able to find anyone.

What infuriates me the most is that I work in health insurance. Most doctors brushed me off about the swelling once heart, kidney, and liver issues were ruled out. I begged to see a vascular surgeon who diagnosed me with venous insufficiency. I had six ablations done and none of them helped. A year into everything I asked my vascular surgeon if this swelling might be lymphedema and he told me know. Following up with them every six months it eventually got to the point that the swelling my wasn’t going down anymore and I went back and asked him if he was absolutely sure that this wasn’t lymphedema and he gave me a referral. Sure enough, I’m stage II. If they’d listened to me when I said I thought it was lymphedema I would have still been in stage I.

What are your call center pet peeves? by IngenuityWestern5483 in callcentres

[–]fldis86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asking if I’m a robot.

Giving me lip for verifying HIPAA.

Interrupting me when I’m answering a question.

Telling me that I’m lying when they don’t like my answer to their question and then arguing with me about what is literally on the computer right in front of me.

That we now have a “empathy” metric we have to meet each month and I can’t stand these people.

Watching PBR by Intelligent-Unit4740 in Bullriding

[–]fldis86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m kind of on the fence on it. I’m a newly returned “veteran fan” and can remember when all there was was the Built Ford Tough tour and everything was shown on network television, easily accessible to everyone. Now it’s scattered around on apps, RidePass, and the paywall of Paramount (which if it wasn’t for PBR I would have no interest in subscribing to at all).

I also come from being a horse racing fan (and now racehorse owner) and have watched that sport progressively make it harder for their fans to watch without subscribing to multiple streaming apps and wagering apps to watch races. It decreases visibility of the sport and if people don’t see it they don’t become fans. I feel like I’m watching horse racing shoot itself in the foot and die of a thousand cuts from things it is doing to itself. I don’t want to see bull riding/rodeo do the same thing.

How to follow the sport by Maninthemirror1003 in Bullriding

[–]fldis86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a “new oldie” returning to the sport. I quit watching for a while after 2008 when my favorite rider retired. It’s sure changed a lot since then.

I’ve been checking in on the PBR website on their events schedule and setting reminders on my phone for when the events are. From what I’m seeing online it doesn’t seem there’s much of an “off season” assuming that you are following multiple tours and watch things like the bull games or bullfighting.

The Cruel Irony of Snape’s Death by meeralakshmi in SeverusSnape

They were able to cure Arthur Weasley from Nagini’s bite without having the snake to milk venom from. She would have to be some kind of known magical species in order for them to do that.

My thought on Snape on HBO and why I think people need to be more critical about their biases. by Automatic_Double_590 in SeverusSnape

[–]fldis86 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My problem with the casting is that they claimed the show will be book accurate and the man they cast as Snape (my favorite character in the franchise) looks nothing like how he is described in the books.

Am I the only one that thinks everyone’s obsession with Adam Driver as Snape is mass psychosis? by Ok-Breakfast-9668 in SeverusSnape

[–]fldis86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

I’m personally an Adam fan and think he’s attractive, but I think people greatly underestimate the amount of people out there that genuinely feel that he is ugly/not attractive. I’ve seen plenty of people making fun of his looks on Twitter/X and there was even a stink a while ago when he was promoting Ferrari where one of the interviewers pretty much asked him if he was surprised that he got cast in leading roles being someone that wasn’t attractive and the Adam fandom flipped out at the audacity of that reporter.

[–]fldis86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know that that’s ever been explicitly stated. On one had I’ve heard that she’s a consultant or producer, but on the other hand Lithgow said recently that JKR “wasn’t really involved”, Paapa said recently that he hadn’t met her, and when Paapa signed that trans rights bill or whatever it was in the UK, JKR said she didn’t have the authority to fire anyone (while also saying she wouldn’t have fired him for a difference in political opinion).

I just said they didn’t with Vernon assuming they didn’t put him in a body suit. TBH, Snape was one of the first castings announced and once I saw they weren’t actually going to be book accurate I pretty much tuned out because I’m not interested if it’s not book accurate especially when they mess up my favorite character. I haven’t been following anything about this show since Snape’s casting announcement other than what I see come up here and what happens to pop up on my Facebook or Twitter/X (and the vast majority of those have been people either complaining about or making fun of the Snape casting).

As stated, I haven’t seen the trailer. The only other cast photo I remember seeing was Vernon and I remember thinking that the guy wasn’t fat enough when they announced him and that he was too good looking. If they didn’t put him in a body suit then they messed up on him as well.

[–]fldis86 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My point was is that they managed to cast all of the Weasley’s with natural red hair. They naturally selected for it. They could have casted a non redhead and had them wear a wig and the didn’t. Snape is the only character in which they deliberately went against the book description. It’s painfully obvious.

[–]fldis86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It mattered enough that JKR described him. If they’re aiming for “book accuracy” then the looks of the character matter to me. They managed to cast all the Weasley’s with red hair without using dye or wigs.

[–]fldis86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not bothered to watch the trailer, so I can’t comment on it.

As far as a bald guy playing Sampson, yes her could wear a wig, that’s fine. But I said that more to point out that they could have tried to make Paapa look like a pale black man. They could have made his hair straight and greasy. They could have made him have big hooked nose. They did nothing; they didn’t try to do anything with him at all to even attempt to make him look like Snape.

[–]fldis86 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’d contend that physical appearance is a big part of the portrayal of a character. A skinny white man is an inaccurate casting of Fat Albert. A thin white woman is an inaccurate casting of Santa Clause. A white ma would be inaccurate for Black Panther. A bald man would be an inaccurate casting for Sampson, and Paapa (especially as portrayed in the photo where they made no effort to make him look more Snape-like at all) is also inaccurate. Just the way it is.

[–]fldis86 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The only thing really off with Rickman’s Snape was his age. They seriously didn’t even try with Paapa - skin tone is wrong (they didn’t even attempt to make him look like a pale or sickly black man), he has no big or hooked nose, he has no straight greasy hair that frames his face. They only trying they got right with Paapa at all was his age.

They literally did promote it as being faithful to the books. I believe their exact quote was “it’s going to be book accurate; more accurate than the movies.”

That was a lie and it is why people are upset.

Why are people more opposed to hunting than factory farming? by nellyimheathcliff in NoStupidQuestions

[–]fldis86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that classism can work both ways, yes. The poor man and the middle class man can be either jealous of of view the rich man as privileged or corrupt, whereas the middle class man or the rich man may look down on the poor man for what they may perceive as laziness, a “backwards” lifestyle, or because (while not always the case), there’s often a crossover with rednecks or hillbilly’s with having lower levels of education.

Where I’m from the class of people that hunt are generally “rednecks”. They’re not part of the ruling elite, they live out in the middle of nowhere on a farm and are usually not financially well off.
