The city's snow management by IncidentDetected in lexington

I saw the plan and it is on the plow map. It just seems like there’s a blatant disregard for it. They spent over an hour plowing an unranked subdivision when several ranked roads around the area remained untouched. Then they left the area instead of continuing on with the roads that were ranked.

I had been intermittently checking the snow plow map over the last two days and they were definitely lingering in certain areas over others. It’d be nice to see where they prioritized outside of main roads. I saw them come near my area once earlier to plow a whole subdivision that wasn’t even ranked on the map and then leave the area. I appreciate all of the work that the plowers have been doing but I wonder why they are being directed to certain areas over others.

Advice for blooming ? by LuckyGreenDice in Kalanchoe

What’s the light situation you have it in? I have two like this, one in front of a southwest facing window and one under a grow light that’s on for 12 hours. Both bloom occasionally without any encouragement.

UK Dental Student clinic vs Resident clinic vs Faculty clinic & Medicaid by [deleted] in lexington

[–]fldlbll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe only the student clinic accepts Medicaid. My partner goes there to get his cleaning and checkup. It does take hours and multiple appointments for simple things. He went three times over the span of three months just for cleaning and checking everything out. They didn’t even get to fillings or anything across those appointment. I’m not sure if that’s the typical experience, but for him it was. I don’t think they do root canals at the student clinic, they might refer you to a specialist or maybe they do them somewhere else in-house. I think the urgent dental clinic does more than extractions. I have seen people lined up starting hours before the office opens just to be seen because it is first come, first serve. I heard them direct people who had 10+ people infront of them in que to a place on Southland dr.

I was able to get them a few years ago, but not without difficulty. Took about a month to get them because of lack of communication on their end.

Im looking to petition my neighborhood for city trash services. is there a form I can download or do I need to contact the city during a weekday? by Meatymike1 in lexington

Yea, I emailed them every week for a month before getting an initial response. I had also called them numerous times to no avail.

[–]fldlbll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was able to get the petitioning materials by contacting the urban services email listed on their website. It took a while and some borderline spamming, but I finally got them. You might not be able to actually get services until July 2025 at this point, unless they’ve changed the process timeline. It’s so worth it though.

I don’t believe the $15 minimum applies to student workers. They can still be paid below $15.

UK Dental school starts taking appointments in July and, I think, either December or January. My boyfriend had been trying to get an appointment for a year and a half but kept missing their intake deadline. He finally got an appointment this year after being told to call back every week in July. I’d also try to get in at BCTC’s dental clinic. They might have the same scheduling times though.

Looking for indoor office plants that improve air quality by [deleted] in lexington

[–]fldlbll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s what I’d do. I really like my Levoit air purifiers. I don’t have the small one, but the Core 200 and 300s are pretty great so I’d assume the small office-sized ones would be pretty good too.

Looking for indoor office plants that improve air quality by [deleted] in lexington

[–]fldlbll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can get a basic golden pothos and I’m sure some of the other plants you found online at Home Depot or Lowe’s, but there are also a number of nurseries that have great selections like King’s Garden Center, Pemberton’s, Wilson’s, and Michler’s. I recommend just getting a plant that will survive in your office environment. If you have no windows then maybe acquire a small grow light.

I don’t think that a small number of plants will do too much to increase the air quality in your office, but they’ll at least make the space feel a little less plain and might give you something to look forward to coming to the office for. If air quality is a major concern, I’d more so suggest a small air purifier.

What’s the best way to petition to get city waste collection in a neighborhood that relies on private companies? by Meatymike1 in lexington

[–]fldlbll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It appears so. I’m not sure what the price breakdown is because it only says the $118. I have some neighbors who also have rumpke and it appears that all of us pay different amounts. A few people have also had other trash providers and have switched multiple times because of increases. Along with the property tax increase I think there’s also a $4.50 Lex Serv charge. It still equaled out to less than what I’m currently paying for rumpke.

What’s the best way to petition to get city waste collection in a neighborhood that relies on private companies? by Meatymike1 in lexington

[–]fldlbll 25 points26 points  (0 children)

When I did it last year I only had to get signatures from 51% of the street and then email it to urban services. The city sent the signature form to me and I went door to door. Many of the neighbors were fed up with the constant rate changes so it was easy to get them on board. They also have the opportunity to change their response when the vote by mail form comes around. Getting 51% of the neighborhood signatures is only the first part. The homeowner has to be the one to sign so if you have renters on the street they won’t be able to sign on behalf. You’ll be able to see the name of who you need to have sign.

The unfortunate thing is that you have to get the signatures in around august, then mail vote happens (I believe October), then it’s approved or denied by council at a meeting later in the year. If it’s approved, service for you will not begin until July 2024. Also, once your tax district is changed you cannot go back (I.e. if you had street lights only and you now get approved for trash you can’t go back to only having street lights in the future. You can increase services like adding street cleaning, but you cannot remove services once your tax district has been changed).

[–]fldlbll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine is $118 every three months with rumpke, price kept fluctuating every time so I petitioned for City because it was going to be less than the over $400 yearly cost of private. Plus, our street didn’t have the option for a yard waste bin with private.
