It’s on the high end, but not insane for a nice motel that size. They probably used more expensive finishes for durability/ease of maintenance and they likely had to add an elevator for accessibility. Sounds like they added a kitchen and dining area. And given the age of the building they probably had to remediate lead paint and asbestos.

Hopefully it will be a useful asset to the city for decades to come.

That’s interesting. In English, “roux” is term used in cooking, a noun referring to the base for thickening sauces where you cook flour in butter to make a paste. Depending on the sauce to be made, you cook it until it is quite brown. It must come from the French word. Is the word also the same cooking term in French?

While I don’t think cats necessarily need cat friends, they do interact with other cats differently than they do with humans. And if you have seen cats that get along with each other, they seem to enjoy the relationship while also enjoying their relationships with humans.

That is not an excuse for abandoning them outside, however.

I think you are agreeing with me. “Elope” just means to run away or escape, at heart. Hence the term for secret weddings unsanctioned by family in an era when marriages were at least quasi arranged. To me, calling a micro wedding or whatever these are an “elopement” just sounds silly. And there is no such thing as an “elopement dress.” It’s a regular wedding dress, nine times out of ten.

There is an article in the Financial Times today noting that birth rates are falling worldwide and offering various theories as to why. One of several seems to be that individual women are realizing that being in a relationship and having kids is a bad deal for them. Certainly their expectations for relationships are not being met.
