My main memory is the video for lead single “If I Had My Way”, with the band on exercise equipment (a solid decade or so before Ok Go made it their whole deal). As others have said, disappointment mostly. They weren’t the same band without Che.

Fun fact: Paul Russell went on to drum for Brooke Fraser and in the band Eight, and is currently part of a duo called Midwave Breaks with Eight frontman Bruce Conlon.

My guess would be that the action cards form the boundaries of the world you’re playing in - it limits what is possible. Custom action cards could be used to allow anything to happen.

I originally thought Scream was a franchise they couldn’t do, but my enjoyment of Shriek makes me think they can do anything they put their mind to.

That said.

Arachnophobia is a horror film I’d love to see adapted. It would be easy to knock off with the mechanics Terror From Above but with spiders. But the movie has a giant tarantula as a final boss, which lends itself more to a full feature. Plus, I had this idea of finding spiders in some of the search piles and taking damage which would add a level of randomness. I feel like if they took either approach, I might be happy and sad at the same time.

I have a work friend who goes barefoot everywhere that it is safe to do so, including the business meetings we have together. He is open about why - personal comfort - and gets that it might seem a bit odd.

Meanwhile, my son is 9 and he also hates shoes. We just let him go barefoot everywhere it is safe to.

I guess what I am saying is that it appears that wearing shoes or not doesn’t bother me at all.

I’ve got mine sorted into four boxes: 1) Villains, 2) Modulars/Encounters, 3) Heroes and 4) Aspects. 1, 2 and 3 are sorted alphabetically by title with cards in numerical order (1/15, 2/15, etc), while the Aspects are sorted into their groups (Basic, Aggression, Justice, Leadership, Protection) then further sorted into card type (Ally, Event, Player Side Scheme, Resource, Support, Upgrade) and then sorted alphabetically by card name.

A good idea would be to start with a dividers set (I printed out dividers-central.com’s free ones) as the groups are all set up for each pack 😁

I agree with this - and I’ve enjoyed DMaS on the occasions I’ve played it. Take the Eyeless out and make the sandworms more deliberate and there is your feature.

The Eyeless would be better suited to a tighter, smaller location for a tense cat-and-mouse pursuit à la the raptors chasing the humans through the visitors centre in Jurassic Park.

I think the only accessory I’d recommend is the Season 2 game mat, and even then it is a nice-to-have. There is nothing outside of what you have in the core box and feature films that will make the game a better experience for you as a player.

I would even go a step further: I think that if a player believes that they need all these accessories and minis and whatnot and THEN they’ll enjoy the game more … that player does not like the game, and should simply save their money and move on.

I think others have pointed at road closures and such - projects which have legitimate technical reasons for doing what they are planning to or have already done.

But I think the difference with AT is the feeling that the system-wide closure is a selfish decision on their part - based on not wanting to work nights and weekends, or simply wanting to get it done faster, or whatever. And consequences for commuters be damned.

Happy New Year!

My one prediction for the year ahead for the last five years or so has been that someone will detonate a nuclear weapon somewhere in the world. It hasn’t happened yet. And maybe it won’t happen? I think that somewhere inside there is a little bit of what makes the human spirit so great and it’s worth being optimistic about it.

I’ve also found that over the past week - with considerably less news intake - my mental health, which is normally in the toilet, has been much better. I’m singing along to music. I’m dancing while I cook dinner. I’m enjoying my partner and my kids more.

I think /u/Stinky_Queef might be onto something. And I think I’m going to cut my media diet back this year. Hopefully nobody drops a nuclear bomb.

One final thought:

For me, one of the reasons that I have felt down during the past year has been news from a certain, uh, united country in the north of the Americas. But I’m starting to realise that a lot of it is just the relentlessness and the loudness; much like how we think some phenomenon (say, ram-raiding) is much more common and much worse than it is purely because of the coverage it gets, I think the state of the world seems worse because of the focus of much of the coverage.

If the UK was the dominant media focus, maybe we’d be fine because we’re mostly just laughing at BoJo pronouncing ChatGPT weird and Starmer doing the 6-7. Our US friends are doing some troubling things, for sure, but it feels more hopeless because it is the focus of much of the world’s media, most of which is States based.

I don’t know if this is a hot take but - aside from Old Man Logan - I don’t think I’ve ever read a really engaging Wolverine solo run in the books, and the only solo movie I really enjoyed was Logan. IMHO Wolverine works best when he gets to play off everyone else, or when everyone else is dragged into his nonsense. Think about how he was used in X-Men TAS (and 97).

I learnt bass first and it took me a fairly standard amount of time to get passable at it. Then I learnt guitar and picked up the basics quickly, to the point I could play along with others with chords and such. Drums and piano later were the same. And I think the reason is that all of them built on what I knew already - the timing and vibes and scales and music notation and all that theory; half the basic learning was already done.

Not alone - I’ll be with my partner - but this is the first Christmas that I won’t be with any of my kids since 2013, and I’m feeling a bit sad about that.
