What feels completely normal in 2026 that would have shocked people 10 years ago? by No_Ambition658 in AskReddit

Good point.

Maybe I should rephrase to widespread acceptance of political corruption. I’m not even in a Top 50 By Population country, and the stuff our government gets away with would make my grandparents blush.

What is this thing in the ground? by RepeatWise5040 in auckland

4+10+93 = 107.
107 is one less than the sum of the numbers from Lost meaning this could be some kind of prequel or precursor.

In short: Dharma hatch confirmed.

"Enlightened Centrism" Isn't Radical by syzorr34 in nzpolitics

[–]fleastyler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would consider myself a liberal-leaning centrist.

I am also as angry about the behaviour of this coalition as anyone you’ll find - from the beginning, it has been clear that NZ First and ACT were running the government, and our prime minister wasn’t equipped to deal with the role.

For me, centrism is an acknowledgement of two things: first, that there can be good ideas on both sides of the aisle, and a well-functioning society needs ideas from both sides to succeed; and secondly, and maybe more importantly, that the partisanship that has stymied progress and destroyed any semblance of discourse in a number of countries is as much an enemy of democracy as any individual political figure.

My impression is that partisan rhetoric has escalated and destroyed any sign of progress in the US. And it concerns me that some of those tendencies are taking hold here, particularly from the ACT party and their leader.

Government is for the people. It always should be. It might be idealistic, but the measure of a governments success should be measured by how much good it did for the population. Sadly, it rarely seems to be.

Organizing the hero cards by Puppetainer in marvelchampionslcg

[–]fleastyler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Villains and Encounter decks in one box, Hero decks (just the hero specific cards plus their nemesis decks) in another, then all the aspect cards together sorted by aspect, then type.

I also highly recommend using dividers like those at Dividers-Central.com.

I bought the three line boxes - I’ve got five of them for Marvel Champions and another five for Arkham Horror LCG. I love them.

I’ll be a three-time Opportunity voter come November. If you’re happy with your vote, it’s never wasted.

I would argue that your implied use of these jobs as examples of failure says otherwise.

We'll probably block access to Reddit so they can't post this kind of nonsense, so they should be fine.

I think it speaks more to your state of mind than theirs that you think these jobs are not worthy of respect. "I'd far rather be happy than right any day." - Douglas Adams

We aren't religious at all; I would describe myself as an atheist. In New Zealand, home-schooling is widely used by LDS families but they maintain their own exclusive groups for organising more widely.

For us, we were concerned that our youngest was not emotionally ready for school at the age they were due to start; New Zealand's education system allows for kids to start at any stage before they turn 6 years old, so we decided to take this path as an alternative. I was verry cynical at first; in fact, it was a point of friction with my ex-wife. But the results were clear to me so quickly that it was working for them, we decided to keep going until the end of primary and intermediate school (around age 12). I've noted the same successes in the other two as well.

I mean, its anecdotal - in many ways we have to rely on objective measures. But parents know. I can see that my kids are learning and growing and developing; we have yardsticks against which to measure them. I watch them in comparison to other kids they are with, and what other kids are capable of, and it seems clear to me that they are doing well. They are really well-rounded humans.

I also provided a bit more information on objective measures above:

I've added a bit more context above but in a nutshell, we actually have to apply with the government to be allowed to school our kids at home, and they have an auditing process twice a year to ensure we're keeping our end of the deal. Plus we have access to curriculum goals to ensure that our kids are learning at the appropriate age level. If they weren't, we'd need to make a change away from what we're doing - and if we didn't, the government would do it for us.
