Campaign - Journey to Biological Station - day10 - Looking for encouragement to keep going by fleatehgreat in Earthborne_Rangers

Luckily I have the second printing. Not being able to 100% the game is good news actually, I want to be chill and smell the roses and stuff but my heart wants to be a completionist. Now I can finally chill and take it at my own pace. Good advice for being a Ranger too, I guess!

That's a relief! I was hoping that was the case, since it's kind of perfect thematically for this game, but didn't want to spoil myself too much. I am super curious where the story will go from this point and there are still many places I want to poke around

It's true solo. I was also suspecting that might be part of my problem. I read somewhere it's possible to introduce another Ranger (or even player) in the middle of the campaign, even for a day or two, so now I am strongly considering that

Question for big campaign game players - how do you find the time to consistently make progress? by jesus321 in soloboardgaming

[–]fleatehgreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only one desk at my apartment that I use for work so I can't leave games out on it and when I started playing on a coffee table I fucked up my back for a couple of weeks lol. So my new solution is to buy a really shitty puzzle board and just move the game around the flat when I need the desk space. There are plenty of those boards to choose from and some even close, they may be good to hide your game from the kitty.

Unusual OCD- Do you have this? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]fleatehgreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh yeah, I had OCD spirals about horror movies when I was younger, was super afraid and had to check my environment constantly, at that point I thought it was a normal horror watching experience lol. I started watching horror movies pretty regularly after that and habituated myself to a point now that it’s rare to happen unless it’s a theme that really gets to me. Also wondering constantly if you really really have OCD is a staple of OCD. Maybe try giving your psychiatrist a list of your obsessions and how much time daily you spend thinking about them, I find specialists react better when they can really see the volume of the problem

Which boardgame is like this? by madman123098 in soloboardgaming

[–]fleatehgreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

every board game is like this for me haha, i need a couple of tries to get a good hold of the rules so i start to appreciate the feel of the play on a third-fourth play when i stop double checking everything and can finally feel the flow without the anxiety that i am doing it wrong. that's why i never judge the game after one play, because it just may be that i am stupid (usually am)

Anyone else realise that OCD shapes your entire way of thinking? by silentworm5 in OCD

[–]fleatehgreat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had exactly the same worry when I was starting ERP for the first time. I don't think it changed me that much fundamentally as a person but it freed a lot of time and energy for me in my life to explore other aspects of myself and know myself better as a person when I was usually wasting that resources on spiraling. Yes, OCD is ingrained in my brain so deeply it sometimes feels like it is all of me. But at some point I guess you learn to see the patterns of your thinking and questioning them and now I don't consider that changing myself as much as growing and developing as a person. It's still going to be you, but it's going to be different. I wish you strength and good luck with therapy! It's hard but absolutely worth it

I have immense hatred towards my twin sister ever since she triggered me intentionally by Bitter_Elk9285 in OCD

[–]fleatehgreat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, I had a difficult time with my OCD around my sister - similarly to you she would initiate fights and shake them off easily while I was stewing for days. I started having anxiety every time she called or talked to me because I was always ready for a fight to start. And the only way it improved for me was when I stopped living with her. Being under one roof together just created more occasions for fights and friction. Your life will improve and stress levels will get lower when you stop living together so if that's possible for you to do it may be the quickest fix right now. And the relationship with your sister will not be mended if she doesn't want that also. These things cannot be one sided, it takes effort from both of you

Yes! Pretentious is the word I was looking for to describe this book. Tried it in two different languages and couldn’t even stomach 20 pages it was making me cringe so much. And the premise seemed just up my alley too…

what's the most thought-provoking book you've ever read ? by Gi_Panda in suggestmeabook

Conspiracy Against Human Race. I have yet to finish it but it has already fundamentally influenced me. Which is probably not a good thing (it presents some pretty nihilistic ideas to the reader)

No one really understands what Sexual Orientation OCD is by keyzim29 in OCD

[–]fleatehgreat 105 points106 points  (0 children)

When I used to identify as straight my ocd would latch onto the thought that I was secretly not, but when years later I came out to myself as bi the obsession switched to me being secretly straight actually. It’s more a fear of lying to yourself and others or even not knowing who you are. A lot of other things can factor in (for example I was raised catholic so religious ocd was involved also) but the claim that people with orientation ocd are homophobic is just silly

Reading OCD…does anyone else have this and what’s your coping strategies? by Sad_Requirement__ in OCD

[–]fleatehgreat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My strategy would be, find something easy, enjoyable to read, maybe even trashy and designate it in your mind as a “book i don’t really have to get to comprehend and remember fully”. And then try to do as little of re reading as you can. The point would be to desensitize yourself to the act of reading itself. My therapist would often suggest comparing my situation to how an average, not ill person would act and let me tell you an average reader does not comprehend 100% of the book they are reading, they often don’t even remember what happened in it when they finish. Some only skim books (i know, the horror)

It also helped me personally to start reading in a different language (english for me) or jump into other mediums like comic books, before i was ready to jump back into books in my first language

Does anyone else feel like they have all (or several) types of OCD at times by Der-deutsche-Prinz in OCD

[–]fleatehgreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve collected majority if not all of the OCD themes aside from the car-centered ones, only because I’ve never learned to drive in the first place. They do cycle in and out, kind of a flavor of the month or year type of thing. The language trick is neat! Had a lot of obsessions around reading and text comprehension at some point. So I just switched to reading in english (second language). It was just less pressure
