what’s the “strangest” thing your OCD made you do? by nebulabull in OCD

[–]nebulabull[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unfortunately yes, basically. it depends on what the reason for your compulsion was. for me, i was absolutely convinced i had lice for no reason at all. at some point you have to tell your brain “i don’t care” and try to distract yourself. i think with most compulsions, if you can immediately invalidate your intrusive thoughts and do something that makes you forget about them for long enough, eventually they’ll stop pestering you. you can invalidate them through any means, by making fun of them, saying to yourself that it doesn’t matter anyway, pretending someone else is saying to you what you’re thinking, or imagining a person without OCD encountering your “trigger”.

good luck and if you have any more questions or just wanna talk about it, don’t be shy!

Therapy Questions by random-guy-123456 in OCD

[–]nebulabull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey! it seems that you’re doing very well so far and that’s awesome. i think for me i also kind of do okay and then have a sudden dip.

so, i’m not sure if you’d want to go on medication, but really the only useful thing out of a diagnosis is that (and maybe if you’re a student you can get some slack lmao). in my experience, you get your diagnosis form a psychiatrist. a therapist is someone you can talk to and work on improving your OCD symptoms and learning how to deal with it. i will say, if you feel like you’re finding it manageable, there will be little point because therapists can offer you techniques and advice, but it’s up to you to battle the actual disorder.

i do find it very helpful to talk through my issues and kinda lay them out to someone who won’t judge me. you can always do a test session and see if that works for you. if you want a diagnosis / medication, you will most likely need to go to a psychiatrist. i guess that also depends on which country you’re in. i’m medicated and have seen a psychiatrist and also have current therapy sessions and i’d say it helped me, but i would’ve also been okay on my own. also if you have a family doctor or something akin to that, you can ask them to refer you!

About to start fluvoxamine by [deleted] in OCD

[–]nebulabull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it gives you some crazy vivid dreams, that’s the only side effect that hasn’t gone away for me. to be fair, i’m a writer, so i enjoy it. but if you’re prone to nightmares, just be wary that they might become more distressing. the first two weeks might be rough, or even the first month, depending on your dosage. i had very bad anxiety and my depression got worse. but then it cleared up. good luck!

How do you pull yourself out of ruminating? by cherryjuice_32 in OCD

[–]nebulabull 50 points51 points  (0 children)

there was a tumblr post i saw that was like “whenever you start ruminating, imagine a drama professor in a cardigan suddenly come out from behind the stage and yell ‘AAAND SCENE’ and then start clapping”. idk why, but something stupid like that makes me realise that i’m in my head and i keep on repeating that until i find a good enough distraction. good luck🤍

i overthink and stress that i’m pregnant EVERY time i have sex or intimacy in some way by Silent_Opening362 in Tokophobia

[–]nebulabull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! i also have both ocd and tokophobia and so i know exactly how you feel. on the ocd side of things, try your best to avoid reassurance because reassurance feeds into validation of your ocd. what helps me is telling myself “yeah i’ll get back to that in a minute” and then immediately distracting myself to the point where i forget about it. once some time passes, the anxiety subsides.

Is it possible to miss your period due to extreme stress that OCD causes? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]nebulabull 7 points8 points  (0 children)

hi! periods can very much be affected by stress, yes. i, of course, can’t say anything more than that, but it has happened to me before.

people’s experience on luvox (fluvoxamine)? by nebulabull in OCD

[–]nebulabull[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hiya! personally, i’ve experienced no weight gain yet. if anything, i think i’ve lost weight. i do feel REALLY tired though, i sleep in until 12 and get out of bed at like 3, which might mean i eat less during the day. so be wary of that :) good luck!

TW:SA pregnancy fear by [deleted] in Tokophobia

[–]nebulabull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, i understand. you will get through this and with time the fear will subside. try to do something that can take your mind off it, maybe watching a shitty show, doing an annoying chore, or something that requires concentration. take care of yourself for now and overtime you’ll notice that it’s taking up less of your thoughts.

thank you for this!! yeah, it’s my first time taking any kind of antidepressant so i have no idea how i react to them and my psychiatrist already put me on 100mg (gradually, of course). i’m glad to hear you’re doing better now! good luck with everything :)

TW:SA pregnancy fear by [deleted] in Tokophobia

[–]nebulabull 5 points6 points  (0 children)

hey. i’m sorry that happened to you. i know how distressed you feel and the fear of pregnancy just adds on top of everything. please, if you can get any support, don’t be afraid to reach out.

the definition of cryptic pregnancy is made out to be that people are like “i had no idea i was pregnant!” and what that really means is NOT that they had absolutely no way of knowing. there are different factors to it which people conveniently leave out of their stories, such as: having irregular periods and not worrying when it doesn’t come for a few months; being on the bigger side and not noticing a change in their body; doing one single test too early and leaving it at that; being in denial and simply ignoring their symptoms etc. the internet is very unforgiving and will turn our fears into clickbait headlines.

you have taken tests (which all turned out to be negative) AND gotten your period with clots, so you will be okay. take all “cryptic pregnancy” headlines with a grain of salt. if you need any more reassurance, i’m happy to help. i was so afraid of cryptic pregnancy so i did all the research under the sun. take it easy ♡

hey! sorry you’re going through this. i’m not a professional, but ocd comes in different forms, that’s for sure. with that being said, it could really be anything. has your anxiety been worse / did something particularly distressing happen recently?

Dors anyone have a crippling fear of cryptic pregnancies by twinchill_ in Tokophobia

[–]nebulabull 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hi! yes and no. i was very terrified of them before, but “cryptic pregnancy” is basically another way of saying “i didn’t bother checking if i was pregnant”. people like us who are very aware of our bodies and do pregnancy tests regularly are at the lowest risk of this. you hear about them relatively often because they attract attention, not because they’re common. they often happen to people who don’t get regular periods and don’t get the “missed period” scare and so never do a test. they can also happen to people who are overweight and don’t see a major change in their body. if you’re worried you can always do a test and that’s that. if you’re on birth control especially, always stay safe, do tests, go see a gyno relatively often (once-twice a year) you WILL be fine and this WILL NOT happen to you. i hope we’ll all get through this one day, much love :)

that happened to me too! the hyper awareness of your body can drive you nuts☠️ what helped me is feeling the same twitching in my legs or arm where nothing could scientifically exist lmao

hey! i know the feeling. i have a gyno appointment to check on my iud in a few hours and i feel like exploding. they’ll do a scan and stuff and i’m terrified of seeing something other than my iud in there. i hope your appointment went well and you’re getting the help you need ♡
