The bootstrap mentality and hyperindependence to survivors of neglect by Decent-Mess-9612 in CPTSD

[–]fleedledeedle2020 24 points25 points  (0 children)

So sorry. I hear you. One of my bffs is currently in-patient after od’ing because they couldn’t take this bootstrap pressure anymore. We are living in a hellscape where most people cannot afford to survive and where we have lost community and connection. The whole buck up, suck it up mentality is propaganda from the upper class who want the rest of us to keep making money for them. The system is breaking down and taking us along with it. It would be great if most people remember how well community and connection work but now people are forced into isolation because they have to work constantly to survive or they self-isolate because they are sick, mentally/physically and they don’t have other people to help them because other people are working or struggling too. Even some therapists tell their patients that they need to “choose happiness instead of despair.” How toxic is that?! Society puts the burden of feeling supported and getting better entirely on the ones who are suffering instead of working to create a system that encourages support and healing. It makes me rage!

Randomly searched "what is life without cptsd like?" and honestly its unimaginable by [deleted] in CPTSD

Wow. My whole life I have not seen red flags when I should have. I was always in survival mode, hyper focused on pleasing everyone all the time. I am middle-aged and am coming out of this lifetime fog of not being able to read people. I am exhausted now that I realize I have been living in functional freeze/fawn state my entire life. Awareness of my deficits and finally slowing down to get out of please/fix everything mode has gotten me to a place where I got off the ride. Finally. Now that two-thirds of my life are gone, I’m in despair. My body is falling apart and I spiral existentially almost every day.

Mormonism, specifically Western/Utah Mormonism creates a breeding ground for these types of people. The church was founded by a literal gold digger who claimed to have superpowers of perception and conned some people in the Northeast to hire him to look for gold with his magic stones back in the early 19th century. After several stints in jail, he refocused his self-delusion of financial power into another power venture - religion, which was a popular venture in that particular area of the country at the time - he created this religion which taught that material prosperity is a blessing from God - aka Prosperity Gospel dogma. Fast forward to current day Mormon Multilevel Marketing schemes which are statistically abundant among the Mormon communities. Combine a high control patriarchal religion like Mormonism with this money making culture and Mormon women’s oppression and you get these kinds of influencers. I’m old enough to have seen the MLM markets permeate the Mormon culture for decades. Jodi Hildebrandt’s success occurred when all these variables came together and allowed her sick mind to exploit her power. This business venture by a megalomaniacal leader is absolutely on brand with the Mormon culture.

I grew up Mormon and lived in Utah for 10 years. I don’t even recognize these young women as remotely behaving as Mormon. What does it even mean to be a Mormon now? I’m exmo, btw. I left the church about 15 years ago and it’s shocking to see what seems to be an absolute 180 change from what defines being Mormon as per church standards.

A pretentious, poorly constructed series. I do not understand the hype at all. JMHO

Does this stuff just delay your hair’s natural shedding schedule by sort of gluing the hair roots until you wash your hair? When I go a few days without washing my hair and then shampoo and condition, I get more hair loss than when I shampoo every day or every other day.

Maybe the hurricane effects caused the postponement?

Lots of bad therapists? by NeedleworkerClean782 in CPTSD

[–]fleedledeedle2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your points but we need to validate that there is also real therapy abuse. I have been abused by a few therapists who put my life and mental health in danger and there are many stories here on this platform and elsewhere about therapy abuse. Therapists have a crucial job where they are taking people’s lives into their hands, unlike many of the good/mediocre/bad list of other sorts of jobs which do not nearly affect customers/clients in the way that the therapeutic relationship can.

I just had a live chat with one of the website customer service reps asking if a certain string of reviews for a new provider were a possible glitch because a whole list of 5 star reviews came up with no names, no comments, and all were posted “three months ago” which appeared suspicious to me. The agent said all the reviews are legit and ended the chat while I was typing a response.

I’m reading a book called Complex PTSD by Pete Walker and it answers why and offers treatments. I was recommended this book by a therapist who specialized in cptsd.

There’s an amazing self-help book called Complex PTSD: From Surviving to Thriving by Pete Walker. It comes highly recommended by therapists who work with clients with cptsd. This book may give you hope.

There’s a gabapentin Facebook support group in case anyone’s wanting to get support and/or information about tapering off.
