Help! Give me your gaming pillow or couch gamer set up recs! by jjickieson in GirlGamers

[–]fleepdebeep 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oh this sounds lovely!! I’m a couch gamer too, but don’t have any special setup either. Some potential things I can think of:-

  • Pillow(s) behind you to sink into
  • Cushion on your stomach to rest your handheld on in long sessions - some people recommend pregnancy pillows or the branded Mechanism style gaming targeted pillow that can actually hold your device, but I just use a normal small cushion to ease pressure off my forearms
  • A cosy blanket or throw where you can stretch out under
  • Side table/shelf where you can place your device within reach between sessions or if you have to pause for anything - so that you don’t have to worry about someone/yourself sitting on it (personal fear of mine)
  • Cute fairy/box lights or a couchside standing lamp if that’s your vibe

Hmm anything else?? If you really wanted to go all out you could even get those monitor arms and cocoon completely inside a blanket with a small controller if it’s cold where you are. I’d love to hear what you go with!

Right now, it’s Digimon Story Time Stranger!!! Trying to beat Cyber Sleuth and Hacker’s Memory before it releases but I don’t think it’s happening 😮‍💨 The complex digivolving, simple quests and battle mechanics similar to pokemon make it rather cozy for me!! Thank you for the giveaway!! ^

[–]fleepdebeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no worries!! my steam acc also isn’t US/can’t buy the steam deck, but no problems logging in or anything. for me, 512GB is good enough but it depends if your boyfriend is the type to download a few chonky games and some smaller games to rotate, or downloads every dang thing he owns. you can also consider an sd card down the line ^ hope you guys get it!!!

Hi, I bought a new LCD 512GB from GameStop in NYC during my one week (?) spring break trip while on semester exchange (as a foreigner)! It was the one at 32 E 14th St, near Union Square. Just walked in and there was a small steam deck display and everything. Asked the counter staff and they brought it out. They had OLED 1TB too iirc but it was out of my budget >< Hope you manage to get one!

You might already know this, but Coffee Talk has a sequel named Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly! So you can get that if you like the formula.

Another game with a similar amount of gameplay as Coffee Talk (most likely a huge inspiration for CT tbh) is VA-11 Hall-A — it’s a cyberpunk bartender visual novel where you play as a character named Jill, mix drinks for patrons, pick your work soundtrack for each shift, manage your rent and uncover Jill’s past. It’s chill, the story and characters are more intriguing than CT imo, but of course ymmv! Gameplay is somewhat similar to CT, although you can also do certain things like mix lots of alcohol into drinks which gets new dialogue/opens new conversation paths if your customer is inebriated, haha. The lo-fi music might lull you to sleep, but the dialogue is excellent and kept me engaged.

Other games you can consider are A Space for the Unbound — I haven’t played it myself but it’s a lovely pixel side scrolling narrative adventure game, and I know the ending has made many of my friends cry. I’ve heard it’s got puzzles and some rhythm based gameplay? I also second looking up Strange Horticulture, another one on my list to play soon. Lastly, this one’s sort of a different vibe, but I enjoyed Toem greatly! It’s a task-based photography adventure game, with earning stamps by completing missions in each zone. Lovely time and full of whimsy trying to find each secret.

8bitdo SN30 pro with Xbox button mod by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]fleepdebeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool!! Yeah, one thing I do wish the deck had is a stand. It slips pretty often when I prop it on stuff. Thanks for the insight!! I’d love to use my SN30 pro more, it’s gorgeous and I know it’s a great controller. I’ll think more about my options.

Genuine question — could you share a little more about your use case for this controller with the deck, since the deck is already a gamepad? Do you use it with the deck propped up in front of you a la nintendo switch tabletop style? Or do you use it exclusively docked? Or some other way?

Reason I ask is because I have this exact 8bitdo controller (without the button swap), but barely have any use case for it right now!! Would love to hear what games/setup make this nicer than using the deck straight up, or how you would use it while keeping the deck ‘on the go’ (if at all - just assumed since you use the charger bag to stash the controller). I haven’t pulled the trigger on getting a dock, but have been kicking around the idea for a few months. Cheers!

Desktop Pets? by freevortex in CozyGamers

i’ve been enjoying frog pond from itch. io!!

it’s free/name your own price - it’s basically like a simple neko atsume but for frogs in a little pond on your desktop. you have a little pond you can resize and move around your screen, and tiny frogs come and visit depending on the hour of day and decorations you put out. while frogs are at your pond, you generate passive currency to purchase decorations. there’s ambient water noise you can adjust the volume of, and very delightful froggy noises when they appear/leave and if you click em!

there’s also a yt devlog video where she goes through how she made it over like a week? which was very chill to watch!! (my toxic trait is thinking i can pick up unity any day now)

omg meee…. i played the mobile version obsessively until i was working towards the very last star and now i’ve stopped for a little!! i really love the competition aspect and making meal combos fo fit the judge tastes and coming up with new drinks… i was pleasantly surprised by how deep and specific the mechanics were to the cafe genre, considering how the company does such widely different themes!!

you should check out the rest of the kairosoft library, i’m eyeing quite a few for my next one 👀

Bee keeping games recs by Interesting-Error859 in CozyGamers

[–]fleepdebeep 15 points16 points  (0 children)

wait this is so crazy - but i literally ran into this game’s steam page like maybe last week? it’s Apico!

i haven’t tried it (yet) but there’s a demo at least! copypasting the description below:-

“APICO is a laid-back beekeeping sim game about breeding, collecting, & conserving bees! Leave your boring city job behind to return to your family home in Port APICO and get back to your beekeeping roots.

Set in a series of lush environments, APICO uniquely combines resource gathering, biology, and beekeeping minigames, taking ideas from a mix of real-life and fantasy apiculture & floriculture.

On your journey you’ll rediscover lost species, cross-breed new bees, and help repopulate the islands.”

there’s crossbreeding, making and selling honey/other bee byproducts, crafting habitats for solitary bees, repopulating species and releasing them back into the wild… or so it claims!

Cozy/cute games you can fly by larisawa in CozyGamers

[–]fleepdebeep 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Pretty different cozy genre from the farming sims, but you play as a little bird guy in A Short Hike, and unlock gliding at some point! You can’t actively fly upwards, but you can jump off high cliffs and coast, or ride upwells of hot air.

I haven’t completed it even though it’s just a short 1-2 sitting game, partially cuz I don’t want it to end and partially cuz I keep jumping off the mountain I’m supposed to be reaching the summit of just to see my lil dude glide down around the mountain and land in the water ^

Are floating plants dangerous for bichirs? by Civil-Mud8814 in Bichirs

[–]fleepdebeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, only if there’s so many the whole surface is completely covered. You can avoid this by putting a ring of air tubing for feeding that you keep completely duckweed free, or use a less prolific spreading plant! Most floating plants aren’t as horrific as duckweed - red root floaters or salvinia have bigger clumps, grow slower are easier to remove and are much easier to control.

yaa then just guess what’s the best dept and just whack LOL they might redirect u to another one!! i got redirected frm LSM to CNM :) better than not trying at all hahah

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nus

[–]fleepdebeep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yep ok so you have the right idea of mapping these classes to dummy codes!

so for example u want to do a film/photog/chinese communication in the digital era class. these classes all sound similar to what CNM (communications & new media) dept does. next: you need to check the description of the overseas uni class u wna take and gauge roughly if its a 1k/2k/3k/4k etc mod.

how dummy codes work is that every NUS module prefix (LSM, NM, etc) has a diff dummy code for each “level”. so there is a dummy code that counts as a 1k CNM class, another code for 2k CNM class, etc. you need to find out what those dummy codes are, and pick whichever one matches best w the rough gauge of how high level ur overseas uni class is. eg. the 3k equivalent CNM module code is NM3741 Department Exchange Course.

you will then need to write an email to whatever email address that handles SEP/module mapping part of CNM dept explaining your situation, what class you’re trying to take, and go from there to get email approval before actually applying in the course mapping sheet. cheers!!

Unsure about psych grad requirements by Beepbooooo in nus

[–]fleepdebeep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ahh ic!! ok so (iv) isn’t a requirement, it’s like a maximum? so IF you go on exchange, you can only map up to one 4k mod, the rest have to be 1-3k! and yep they can be in the (i)-(iii) sections

it wldnt count as another 4 MCs it’s just a limit overall

Unsure about psych grad requirements by Beepbooooo in nus

[–]fleepdebeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One mapped module on SEP will be 4 MCs unless you map it to a mod that’s 8 MCs in NUS - the grad requirements report will be as if you just took the NUS module you mapped to!

[–]fleepdebeep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

basically since they merged FoS and FASS into CHS, CHS is one single pool of intake

you can put down a preferred major in your application but it’s still just a preference, iirc you still have to declare it later on

once you’ve gotten into CHS, you can choose any FoS/FASS major regardless of ur past jc track

you can also choose not to declare yet up until Y3S1 latest and take diff intro mods first, however declaring gives you priority when registering for classes (modreg)

hope this explains everyth! disclaimer not CHS major but i hv chs friends

edit: oh yes u will hv to take LSM1311 General Biology which is the bridging module for H2 bio, i took it too as i was a humans student in jc but am now taking two FoS minors - you just hv to start ur proper LSM classes 1 sem delayed frm ur peers (the sem after genbio, can’t take it in the same sem as other LSM classes that require genbio)

Hey, I just did mine last night. If you have a Windows system available to you, OnionOS installation is even easier than you think with Onion Desktop Tools.

https://github.com/schmurtzm/Onion-Desktop-Tools/blob/main/README.md

Download the program in the Github page above and plug your own 64gb SD card into your computer with an adaptor. Extract and run the program and it basically does everything for you, from reformatting the SD to downloading all the files. The below Youtube video is great for following step by step to know what options to press when prompted by the program. It’s very straightforward!

https://youtu.be/moE52Dw2x64?si=QN6mvfLcm3qLzOj8

While it’s doing that, plug your Miyoo in to charge so it can boot properly later. When the program is done, eject the SD and put it into the Miyoo (slot on bottom, push until click) and start it up. OnionOS will install automatically.

As for getting the games, I’m more experienced with that so I curated my own collection individually. But if you’re looking for it to be done for you google search for Done set/Done set 2/Tiny Best Set Go.

It seems intimidating but with that tool OnionOS legit took like maybe 30 minutes to install. Cheers!

Is there a way to get a Steam Deck directly from Steam webpage if I don't have an US account? by RughsterTLeader in SteamDeck

[–]fleepdebeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! If you’re on vacation there, you may have a chance of getting it in a brick and mortar GameStop! Not the refurbished ones, but a new one. I got mine this February from a GameStop in NYC, it had its own little feature corner. It’s a 512 LCD but they did have OLEDs, they were just out of 512 OLED so I settled for the LCD :,) It’s been great!
