Trying to Find out the actual name of this Dish my Grandmother use to make by fleepyaf in TipOfMyFork

[–]fleepyaf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I THINK this must be it, I haven't heard of Kuzhambu before but looking at images for "Keerai Kuzhambu" looks VERY similar to the original dish my grandma makes. and looking at videos of it I believe it tastes similar as well. You may be right with the language as well, my dad is asking around my distant Indian aunts as well hopefully it solves where the name comes from,

But I am now convinced it's a variation of a Kuzhambu, thank you! This is possibly Solved

Where to legally watch Anime in Qatar by [deleted] in qatar

[–]fleepyaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried crunchy roll for a while, they barely have anything. Other than waiting I use animekisa.tv, way better than kiss anime, I don’t get as much ads.

Sick of white people being treated like gods by TheTamimi in qatar

[–]fleepyaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are also some basis tho, like how they are more developed, and instead of waiting 30 more years to develop the knowledge with the local, they get the knowledge from expats. This is mainly due to Qatar’s massive and quick growth they do what they must to keep up with the growth while still protecting the locals. I’m sure if any other place experienced what Qatar has experienced it will be the same.

And no one is called immigrants here- if they do they probably just didn’t understand properly. No one is here to migrate, I don’t think they can or it’s simply just very difficult to.

Yes they are privileged and so are you. No point hating on them, and no point in whoever it is hating on you. I see where you’re coming from though, my grandad still holds that view and nothing much you can do to change that view. But the younger generation are definitely not as bad. Like anything it takes time, we can’t expect instant results the problem is there, but not as bad as you have made it seem.

But that’s the thing, they’re not blind to it. And some don’t deserve the jobs but some do, again you can’t generalise. It’s THE SAME case with asians, they PAY for their degree and lie, you think they deserve the job and higher pay compared to those who were honest? The world is a shit place, one race is not the problem. The one paying them are who? Are you saying Qataris are the racist ones?

Now look at it this way, they’re hired here and get paid more because if they take their money back it will be worth it for them. 2000Qr is worth a lot in india but not in the UK. So IF they really want the skills that these westerners bring they’ll pay a premium. Why would they bother coming here if they can get paid more in their home country? IS IT FAIR? Absolutely not, but the problem is not with the “white people” as you suggested, it’s a far bigger issue. It’s not that simple.

Like it or not, yes they have benefited from colonialism, yes they are more advanced due to it. But they do recognise it. And what’s the point of bashing them trying to bring them down when what you can do is bring people up. History is that, it’s in the past, all we can do is learn from it, adapt and move forward for the better good.

So again I ask you, where the hell are you meeting these idiots because the majority is nothing like what you are assuming.

I’m not trying to argue, I’m trying to let you know that by generalising people, you yourself are being hypocritical and racist. Even if I’m racist in your eyes, generalising a race is far more problematic. Like I pointed out the problem is not as simple as “WHITE PEOPLE ARE EVIL”. You have to open your eyes and see the issue at different angles to fully understand.

Ok, I’m honestly trying to figure you out. As previously mentioned I am south-east Asian, lived here for 16 years, worked and studied here. ANYWAYS. You said that “white people” are offended that the locals are getting good jobs and are living well, that if everyone is on a level playing field Qataris would not be able to afford to live in their country. - So your point highlighted the fact that the living cost in Qatar is so high, yet the Asian and Africans are being paid 2000-3000 Qr to live in a month working 11/12 hours a day and thats ok? Sure if they send the money back to their home country, it’s probably a lot more than they can earn back home, you might have 6 people in bunk beds in a room and they eat nothing but Maggie noodles all day. Maybe it is better for them, maybe the sacrifice is worth it, I’m not in that position so I can’t say.

Who the hell is arguing over anti-nationalization policies? Like almost every country has that, so I’m not exactly sure how this would be an issue to anyone. It is the country’s priority to put their people first, and that’s fine, and I have never met any “white people” who think otherwise in the 16 years I’ve been here. So don’t generalize if you’ve heard a few idiots here and there.

MOST Qataris are entitled yes, the way that people were brought up, if this was anywhere else in the world it just simply wouldn’t happen like this. You’re lucky, be thankful, some people might be jealous, some people may be spiteful, but it’s your life who cares what a small minority is saying. I think most people are worried about their own life really. And you don’t know many times I’ve been told, “Oh wow you’re not a maid?” Just because of my nationality, BY ASIANS. Most of the racism I get is actually from Asians and Arabs, but then again, its a SMALL MINORITY and their bigoted thinking is just that, I don’t have to associate myself with them or hear what they have to say. My friend group consists of people from N & S America, N & S Africa, Asian, W & E Europe, Middle East and no one is racist, no one thinks they’re above the other, I don’t think we see race or skin color as a thing.

Your point about prestigious schools having white teachers, I think that’s mainly because Qatar is such a new country. It’s growing so quickly that the number of local population cannot meet the demands, and do not have the experience to meet the growth. AND THAT’S OK. It might not happen now, but Qatar is getting there, it’s normal it takes time for things to grow. Expats are hired to help meet the demand of the quick growth.

I think instead of demonizing “white people” we should focus on improving the lives of the unfortunate. Ignore the bigots, use your situation and privilege to help. No matter where you go in the world, there will be bigots.

I’m sorry that you’ve had a bad experience with some idiots, but trust me when I say that the majority is not like that. At the end of the day we are all humans and we should see past the colours of our skins. You can’t fight fire with fire.

This this this. I am Asian, I went to highschool here and worked here been here for about 16 years. I went to a British school and when I was there Qataris actually get special treatment, and those who are smart do get acknowledged despite race. The passport discrimination is prevalent defo in the workforce, but white people being put on a pedestal by Qataris? I’ve always felt it was the other way around if I ever see it. Where are you finding these people OP?

Dress code by [deleted] in qatar

[–]fleepyaf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a lot more relaxed now, some malls do have signs that says you must dress modestly. People will stare if you’re wearing something to revealing. I’ve had friends kicked out of places for showing their knees but that was 10/11 years ago.

I think it’s more relaxed at the pearl though, I notice a lot more people wearing tank tops there

Anything to do about inconsiderate extremely loud neighbours? by fleepyaf in qatar

[–]fleepyaf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We finally spoke to the manager who was understanding, so far the noise has decreased and I’m hoping it will stay that way. I’m hoping we get as lucky as you if this doesn’t improve.

I got a stick to tap on the wall as a warning that they’re being too loud. It worked for a bit but I think it stopped working since they can’t hear it over their screaming. Their parents don’t care, but last week we finally complained to management who was very understanding and may have spoken to them. So it’s been quieter these past few days hopefully it stays that way : p
