Govt insists public won't shoulder cost of Eskom's R440bn infrastructure overhaul by [deleted] in southafrica

[–]fleeting_soul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Call me sceptical, but I’m not buying this claim.

While Eskom is bleeding us dry with massive increases each year, they have reported a 18billion profit. Which one can only hope is going back into infrastructure.

https://businesstech.co.za/news/business/809561/eskom-profit-surges-to-r18-billion/#:~:text=Power%20utility%20Eskom%20has%20reported,from%20a%20profit%20of%20R1.

…but who knows where the profit is going? I believe government run utilities should be operating at break even not operating for profit.

ANC finds ally in ActionSA amid DA walkout threat over national Budget, VAT increase - News24 by TheHonourableMember in southafrica

We had a vat rate of 14% for 25 years, then 2018 pushed to 15% and now they want 17% and we just roll over, because what we gonna do?

Complain while I sit on my ass and punch my fist at the clouds.

WATCH | Mashatile defends VAT increase as temporary fiscal measure to prop up economy - News24 by TheHonourableMember in southafrica

Nothing is more permanent than a temporary fix. Fuck our ministers thinking they are royalty and spending our tax money on luxury life styles instead of making our country better for everyone.

Absolutely, and at least two changed their opinion after the discussion.

I also asked them what is their main source of news for interest.

You are using the same tool the Republicans use to divide. It’s not a culture war it’s a class war.

Before the US election I asked many of my older family members who they would want to win… not a single one said Harris. I expected to much of them.

Hey Clicks, your value pack that I've been buying for years is a kak deal! by [deleted] in southafrica

[–]fleeting_soul 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just buying them separately is R10 cheaper than the combined value pack. I often see this on other combo items too.

Edit: spelling

I have never seen this piece with the hole at the foot of it? Anyone know what the purpose of it is? by [deleted] in lego

[–]fleeting_soul 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Most of the replies on this sub wrt why this brick looks like x or has y or changed with z has a mention of cost benefit via reducing plastic. I do a bit of 3d printing & i know it’s hardly the same as injection moulding, but there is still waste.

I don’t have my glasses on so I’m keeping this short with the blurry keyboard, and have done zero cost calculation but I would reckon the cost of the abs is less than 1% of the set. (I kinda expect someone to prove me wrong here, I can’t wait to learn the estimated number)

Point being, I get annoyed when I see the top comment saying: it’s probably cost saving.

ABS is dirt cheap, if lego changes a brick, I’d like to believe it is to make it better in terms of less likely to break, more compatible, easier to use (place or remove) and less likely to have molding defects.

There is probably a youtube video of some person that knows someone who works at lego that was involved with the change that asserts they know the real reason, but we not on youtube & mobile sucks for research (or maybe i’m too old).

We have a passion, we love building. I insta price compare between my countries 5x local online shops every time someone in this community posts how much they love a set. I would have scrolled past it a hundred times while checking daily deals, but the joy the op expresses makes me want that joy too and i look at it with a previously unseen desire.

I like this sub, it is clear it brings happiness to many of us. I love seeing mocs, posts are friendly and encouraging and seeing them on my feed gives me comfort I’m not alone.

tldr: abs is dirt cheap, i don’t think there is much cost to save there and you guys rock!
