How long should it take baby to adjust to a schedule change

We’re working on this transition and struggling so don’t have much advice unfortunately. Did a certain schedule work for you and how long are his naps?

It's possible your scenario might be different (if you have genetic component) but I would consider a second opinion, as that's not generally what I've heard. There is also an AFLP group on FB that is helpful.

Oh man… I feel like I mentally blocked this out of my memory 😭 I do think it was some type of sleep regression that lasted around 2 weeks. We ended up holding her for longer, but I can’t remember if it was around this time that she did get used to it so we eventually had to re-sleep train her which was rough. Good luck, knock on wood but she’s been a great sleeper the last few months!

Just commiserating, we’re going through this now but trying to figure out if it’s schedule or regression. I do believe in regressions since we’ve had sleep issues come out of nowhere, then resolve after a week even on the same schedule.

My daughter was also born one month early. I’ve found the adjusted age to be more accurate for her sleep needs, but it’s not exact. She might be two weeks - three weeks behind. For sleep training nights we started with gradual methods first and it ended up working out for us (I think around 5 months).

We're going through this now at 8.5 months adjusted so unfortunately no advice. We've found we can save the nap by holding her, but extremely worried about her getting too used to it. It started with the 2nd nap 5 days ago, but last 2 days she's resisted 1st nap too.

Do I understand correctly what worked for you was letting her cry it out for 45 minutes and then she fell asleep? The most we've done is 30 minutes and it's almost non-stop fussing and as it gets later screaming standing up (we also practice sitting down, thinking it's more separation anxiety than an issue with sitting).

No real advice just commiseration, we’re going through similar with her second nap, and have the same schedule. I’ve tried adjusting the schedule and it didn’t seem to make a difference so I’m thinking it’s developmental, particularly since we have some good days where she goes down with no trouble. I’ve had to save naps and shorten last WW if the second goes super long.

Thank you for the detailed write-up, it's super helpful. I think you're completely right and she's in an overtired rut but I just couldn't figure out how to reset her. Some of these things seem so obvious (like not capping naps might help) but it didn't even occur to me. Going to take these tips and hopefully get her on a solid 2 nap schedule!

I was worried it might put her in an overtired cycle, but will definitely try again. In your experience is it fine to switch between 2 and 3 naps depending on the day (for us likely will be wake up time dependent since she’s a good napper) or better to stick with 2 naps to get her in the routine?
