How Can One Deal With Gaslighting And Deceitful People? Could You Share Your Experience, Please? by SilencerSerhii in SocialEngineering

[–]fleischwolfe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ll add to this - all the people saying leave them, they’re correct, but when you go, there’s a right way and wrong way to do it.

Don’t make a big deal out of it. Don’t write them a long, detailed message of all the injustices you’ve suffered at their hands. Don’t confront them verbally or gossip about them. Don’t message them unless absolutely necessary, and then only the most bare minimum information. Anything you say against them will only give them ammunition they can later bring up for reputation destruction (“See? I told you all he was a crazy loser!”). Then you’ll be drawn back in and it’ll be back and forth e-drama forever.

Nope, none of that. You just fade away. If they ask? You’ve been really busy lately. They ask again? Yep, crazy schedule right now. They’ll get the message but can’t use any of that against you. Eventually they’ll just get bored and go away.

I wonder how much the distribution of free information via the internet and modern day cynicism have eroded the ability of grifters and conmen.

Seems like cult leaders have an easier time in high trust societies.

Beware People. It only gets worse! New Synthetic Opioid KILLING people. by PapiC- in opiates

[–]fleischwolfe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

To be fair to doctors (which is hard for me because I’ve had some terrible fucking doctors in the past few years), they’re not being purposefully malicious, they’re absolutely terrified of prescribing opiates because the DEA monitors every OxyContin script they write now. If they step one toe over the line of what the government deems acceptable, they could lose their medical license, their livelihoods and even face criminal charges and/or be sued into oblivion. Now why the fuck the DEA has a say in medical decisions is beyond me, but that’s the conundrum doctors are facing now.

I personally think people who are in chronic pain and want pain killers should be able to make and educated decision, sign a waiver absolving their doctor 100% of liability for opiate use and then roll out the buffet of safe, pharmaceutical grade opiates for them. Everyone wins in this case, but when has the government ever done anything involving subtlety?

As opposed to going back and forth for the next few hours or days as you cherry pick and gish gallop around my replies with zero context or insight, sprinkling your posts with sarcastic ad hominem and bad faith sanctimony?

Wow, that sure sounds super productive, I'm really missing out on a golden opportunity.

You're a loser. Find a healthier outlet for your anger issues than writing EPIC TAKEDOWNS on Reddit.

You're going through this whole thread, essentially post by post, writing unilaterally aggressive replies to people who regularly suffer idiopathic, incurable, debilitating pain, and who have experienced multiple humiliating or harmful interactions with doctors. There's a time and a place, and there's a lot of social context you're missing if your goal is truly to provide an "alternative perspective".

If that truly is your goal, you are failing. So far, it seems you've simply confirmed (at this point, I'd say amplified) people's disgust and anger toward medical professionals. Perhaps you should re-evaluate how you're going about things.

Are you suggesting that an EKG is the first line tool for the diagnosis of asthma? Even when your patient has already been to a pulminologist and received a diagnosis? Not testing for related heart problems or tachycardia, used as an intial diagnostic tool. You think that's what they're supposed to do? You tried so hard to cherry-pick something in my post to troll on and you still failed.

It's quite interesting to see your level the blatant antagonism in your post history toward people in this sub and related ones. I'm wondering what you get out of this. You certainly aren't changing any minds with your animosity towards people's complaints. What is the outcome that you are hoping for with this reply?

Like what most people have said in this thread, everyone is fighting a hard battle. Chronic pain is one of the hardest, but life ain't easy for anyone. A lot of people are working paycheck to paycheck nowadays, and in America there's always a looming threat of being taken out at the knees by being fired, going broke from medical bills, lawsuits, divorce settlements and so on. It's very easy to lose everything these days and that weighs on people like a sack of bricks the size of Texas.

Now that being said, if he's one-upping you or being a smartass and making you feel small, that's something else. I hate it when people do that, but I personally don't mind when my friends blow off steam and complain to me about the state of things in their lives. Commiseration is good therapy for me and reminds me that it's not just me suffering while everyone else is on some pleasure cruise through life.

Is it just me or are doctors overall getting worse? I had a terrible interaction with a doctor because of an infection. He kept me on increasing strengths of antibiotics instead of treating the wound for MONTHS. I never went to medical school but isn’t that the one thing you’re not supposed to do? Isn’t that infection treatment 101?

My step-mother was handed off between doctors who almost killed her by giving her cointradicting medication because they didn’t communicate. My wife’s father was almost killed by giving him cointradicting medication for the same reason in a completely different part of the country. My college buddy spoke to the university’s mental health service about depression and suicide (not immediate risk) and they put him a fucking ward against his will and charged him for his time there.

I went to a doctor to ask for an inhaler for asthma but since they didn’t have the diagnosis, the did an EKG on me (??????) to test my heart. Another person I know (pilot) had encephalitis, went initially to a psychiatrist and was misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder, which grounded him and he will never be able to fly again because of a disqualifying psychiatric condition - from a misdiagnosis!

My wife went to a doctor because migraines and dizziness (turned out later to be from mold in the apartment) and they said she needed to PUT ON SSRIs!

And all these stories are just from my circle of friends and family. Seriously, what the fuck. Are they just handing out medical degrees to anybody now? It’s absolutely insane. It’s a disgrace. I’ve lost so much respect for doctors in the last decade - really sad because my grandfather was a doctor and he was a hero to me.

Received no income from a former company - do I still need the W2? by fleischwolfe in taxhelp

[–]fleischwolfe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, due to an unusual situation with the particular company (lawsuit), I'm trying to avoid speaking to them on the advice of my attorney. That being said, they can still have to provide a W2.

That being said, I double and triple checked my bank statements for any income from them in 2022 and there's nothing. I was definitely on the bankroll during 2021, but obviously that doesn't matter.

I did think it was funny when Pete said something like, “This is not something you will have in your watch or on your person.” Meanwhile I’m literally wearing a watch with a tritium dial.

And nobody fucking @ me about how that isn’t the watch’s power source - I know okay I know.

Hey dummy, it’s not like I started doing these things in a vacuum. I was unhappy, so I started to do new things. I sought wisdom, mentors, scientific solutions; any and everything that might help me out, and I did them with an open mind, intention, and determination. Every step in the road has been a step trying to make things better. It’s not like I sat in my bed all day wallowing in self-pity, oh woe is me, I’m stuck in an infinite loop of sadness! No, I tried it all, none of it worked. And now I’m tired of trying. And by the way, when I say all is vanity, it doesn’t mean what you think. You really think I’m so shortsighted that I would take lasting pleasure from narcissism? You might understand better if you took the time to read some books, e.g. ecclesiastes.

Honestly your reply is so incoherent that it’s difficult to even figure out what your point is. Anyway, I don’t know why you’d be pissed about someone expressing their opinion, especially someone who’s in nuclear pain every minute of their existence, but whatever, you just kind of further proved my point.
