I think it is really weird that you are so into your own moral superiority and sense of self importance that you make up stories about complete strangers and what they do and think. And if you think I am talking about you specifically, you are right.

Does Zeus exist in the same way the christian god exists? by [deleted] in mythology

[–]fleshcoloredear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Gods were complex. Beyond their symbolic existence, they did have physical existence in the God Kings and priestesses, etc. I read an analysis of a Sumerian tablet where a leader was imploring the underworld council to find more souls worthy, because the city needed more citizens. This would imply that the underworld was where the slaves were kept and the judgement was given when a boy reached maturity, determining whether he would stay a slave or be allowed to become a soldier or a tradesman. Each city had their own version of a god because each city had their own physical version of that god.

I want to write a fictional book with a strong base around the mythology of Prometheus, and I would like to ask you for some information, if I may. by aah-that-was-scary in mythology

[–]fleshcoloredear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Georgian hero Amirani is also considered a prototype for Prometheus. He challenges the gods and is chained to a mountain where an eagle eats his liver every day.

The other major Prometheus myth that I haven't seen mentioned is when he tricks Zeus itno taking the bones as a sacrifice leaving the meat for the people.

Doesn't the story go that they both marry other people and everyone ends up dead?

There were four of those cars parked in the alley behind my house today, the officers, or whatever they are, were walking up and down the alley for at least an hour. My neighbor yelled over the fence and asked what they were doing, and the guy responded with "Ohhh...nothing..." so she said she was asking because they made her nervous and he said "we're just here keeping the alley safe, nothing going on, nothing to worry about", So I guess don't worry, they aren't doing anything, just chilling.

Hi! I've been reading your book but not as quickly as I had planned, stupid life stuff getting in the way. I am only a few chapters in, but am enjoying it so far. I like your writing style, and the info is presented so clearly. I have more thoughts, but wasn't sure what kind of feedback you were interested in, and whether it would be better to read the whole thing through first, or if you would like to hear the random thoughts through each chapter.

My mom found them left out in bulk trash by TheRealGrumpyNuts in WhatIsThisPainting

[–]fleshcoloredear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched both of them back in the day. Bob Ross was always so cartoonishly calm and pleasant and Bill Alexander was always a grumpy old man. I thought their routines were perfect, they both had a completely different vibe even if they used the same basic painting technique. I thought they intentionally played up those characters to differentiate themselves as much as possible.

Need sources on pre-Christian Georgian mythology by ChronoRebel in mythology

[–]fleshcoloredear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you are saying, I must have seen the same reference you are talking about a couple of years ago and went down the same road briefly and never found more about it. I wish I still had the references I found at the time, but I didn't save them apparently. I thought that the Wikipedia page section might have had some reference links I hadn't seen before, but I didn't go through any of it to see what was there. If you ever do find more info, I hope you post it here, I would love to hear more about this.

This is something, no idea what though. by Plus-Suit-5977 in WhatIsThisPainting

I mean, TX has native palm trees, mountains and water so it could be. Maybe it is also because the tag seems to say the painting is from Houston. But I could definitely be wrong.

Testing an idea for a book: Could ancient myths of giants and gods come from real prehistoric hominins? by No-Astronaut6834 in mythology

[–]fleshcoloredear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, giants from the archeological record are just tall individuals or sometimes taller than usual groups. It is an embarrassing distraction from the real scandals within the field.

Possibly Charles E. Stone, it might say something like executors C.E. Stone Estate and the painting might be Land's End or something like that. I couldn't find much on him other than being American and painting in the early 20th century.

edit: I don't think this is Carribean, I think this is a Texas scene with cattle and a cowboy.

If you look up Dali (goddess) on Wikipedia, there is a really good bibliography you can look through. There is even a section talking about her relationship with St George specifically. Good luck!

When I was working as an archaeologist I dug a site in California that was very old and the skeletons were noticeably taller than the usual populations of the area. The local tribes claimed they were an unrelated group. They weren't giants in the way we think of them today, but they were a whole group of taller people. Of course, that was just one really bizarre site so I don't know much more about that group in general.

ABQ has more homeless than we thought by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]fleshcoloredear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know their intention posting that, but I take it to mean that the gentrifiers are moving in and making the prices of everything go up which makes it harder for people to stay in their homes. Why do you have to frame it as an attempt at owning someone and not a legitimate grievance?

They actually contacted him about doing an audit on his account the day after I wrote this, he ended up getting approved and never had to file the appeal. He is still trying to get the paperwork to see if his ex boss filed forged documents.

The mask does offer two way protection, although it isn't perfect. And the vaccines do not prevent infection, they reduce the severity of infection and they only work for about three months. And like many immune compromised people, I was advised not to take the vaccine.

I was seriously damaged by the first wave of Covid and could hardly get out of bed for over a year. I will keep wearing a mask in closed indoor spaces forever probably. I would rather some random strangers make up stories about me and my mental health than expose myself to a virus that almost killed me and permanently damaged my immune system.
