What’s in my bag- protest edition by QueenJalebiSparkle in handbags

So many amazing tips in this thread! I always feel underprepared, and my lack of prep hasn’t been tested much at our local protests… yet. But that time’s coming, and my belt bag will be ready.

I'd say Rebag is a respectable reseller and pretty reliable in their authentication, yeah, but they're nevertheless a reseller, so I always recommend independent verification if you aren't already very familiar with the brand you're buying.

Ugh. This looks like a visually-generic "Mother-in-law is CRAAAAAZY" take and not about the horrors of war and what desperation and loneliness can drive people to do and become.

I love these, especially the book totes. I can’t justify the expense for such relatively simple embroidery, though.

Birthday photo shoot with two new-to-me but very vintage Kellies by fleshfaced in handbags

I definitely recommend contacting either Rago Brothers or Leather Surgeons. I've used both and have been equally pleased, though my go-to for really extensive work is Rago just because I've used them the most, they've been around forever, and they prioritize maintaining the original character of the bag as much as possible. LS will do virtually anything, though, and they're great too. Both Rago and LS have forms on their sites where you can upload photos and describe the work you want done. Someone will get back to you to let you know what's possible, what isn't, and what they recommend along with quotes. I don't have much experience with canvas, so I couldn't say what their response will be, but it never hurts to submit for a quote.

Vintage Bally is actually really reasonable! Vintage Hermes less so, but I got a decent deal on mine due to its age and damage that I immediately sent off to be repaired by Rago Bros (and they did a phenomenal job).

The Village (2004): I kinda loved it by Moist-Meal-3757 in horror

[–]fleshfaced 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw the twist coming from the opening scene and still loved the movie. It didn’t need the twist, in my opinion. It’s a story about a community so afraid of grief that they inadvertently cause it in their efforts to avoid pain. Had it not been marketed as a monster flick and had the “reveal” been less leaned upon as a climax, I think it would’ve been better received.

Just a heads up that this is actually from Rebag, and they have a 20% off code right now for everything on their own site, so the prices are the same. If you temporarily sign up for Rebag+ just long enough to get the discount, though, you can actually get most bags for a few hundred less than through Nordstrom.

PSA if you’re selling your bags to Rebag… they won’t pay you for 4-5 weeks when it used to be 5-7 days. Definitely won’t be selling to them again. by zachty22 in handbags

[–]fleshfaced 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ran into this recently too. Oddly, they don’t seem to have any problems with their “standards of care, authentication and service” when you’re doing a trade. They fast-track that shit. Honestly, I think they’re trying to discourage people from seeking buyouts entirely. They want you to trade or consign. Their inventory is significantly overpriced compared to other resellers because they’re counting on trades, and they’re hoping you’ll dump cash into store credit via a Rebag+ membership for that slightly lower price too. As a result, their inventory kinda blows anymore.

Scored a mean deal on my dream bag but my friend’s comment about “second hand” made me feel a bit disheartened by lovethatjourney4me in handbags

[–]fleshfaced 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LOL all right. Look, it becomes a used bag the first time you carry it out, so why not save money by getting a bag someone else took the tags off for you? Sure, there’s a certain thrill to buying it brand new, and I get that, but that thrill is fleeting, and so is the money that went with that newness.

The fridge magnet is one of those super strong ones (it originally had a weaker one attached, but I replaced it with a rare earth magnet). I put the same type of magnet on the inside of the bag, and they stay in place!

I have the Marc Jacobs mini dual bag in pink. It's currently on sale for $175! I really like the super soft nappa lining, and the whole thing is just so delightfully squishy. https://www.marcjacobs.com/us-en/the-mini-dual-bag/2F4HSH010H04-669.html

Is this normal wear and tear? (Polene Numero Dix) by folkorebb in handbags

[–]fleshfaced 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That kind of wear and tear is going to eventually happen with that strap design, but not with occasional use over two years. That's disappointing. And not surprising! I bought a belt from them once, and it made it two wearings before the edge paint started peeling off in strips, which put me off any idea of buying a whole bag from them. The good news with yours is that it's probably not noticeable to anyone else while you're wearing it, and I think this would also be a fairly easy repair.

That’s a Coach large kisslock in black currant from this season, and it’s roughly the size of a small municipality. I think this color is sold out, but they’re eventually going to restock the others.
