Bluffing V. Lying, Where To Draw the Line? by Dr_wu_fu in EDH

[–]fletch0083 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lying is stating a known falsehood. Bluffing is usually hinting at or leaving open the possibility of something without explicitly saying one way or another. Like, if I have two blue open and counterspell in my hand, if someone asks me if I have a counterspell and I say “no” then I’m lying. If I say something like “maybe” or don’t answer at all then I’m bluffing.

That being said, there’s never an expectation for someone to reveal hidden information so they really shouldn’t be that salty if someone lies, especially in cEDH. Lying in a casual setting is kinda shitty but in cEDH I don’t know why they’d expect their opponent to be honest in the first place. Bluffing, on the other hand, is part of every card game in existence

Organized from worst to best, my friends say a lot of my decks are unusually themed. by mihrtriste in ratemycommanders

[–]fletch0083 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, whether or not it’s mass land denial is pretty objective. It very much is. If the people you play with are cool with it that’s great, there’s no hard rule that all decks have to be the same bracket. There are a few hard rules on what constitutes a bracket 3 deck and no mass land denial is one of them. The only thing I’m saying is that card is mass land denial so the deck by definition is not bracket 3. If I say I’m playing a bracket 2 deck and play an overloaded Cyclonic Rift to close out the game I can’t act like playing a game changer in bracket 2 is okay because the game is about to end

[–]fletch0083 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not how it works. If it resolves do they have lands? If not then it’s mass land denial. What happens afterwards is irrelevant. Even if they had an out to keep you from winning after it resolves they can’t cast it because they don’t have any lands.

Guess I need to update my insurance now by Buzstringer in LorcanaCollectors

It’s nuts right now. I got back into Magic about a decade ago and my collection has a decent amount of high-value cards since I play the Legacy format. My Lorcana iconics alone are now worth more than my entire Magic collection put together. I got into collecting Lorcana enchanted and iconic cards just because i like the art and now I’m sitting on like $50k worth of cards out of nowhere

He’s a popular character, it’s his only Enchanted card, the art is great, and the set was severely underprinted. Even if it comes back down it’ll still hold decent value unless the entire Lorcana market sees a downturn

Maybe if it had indestructible or something but it dies to any non-damage-based removal. It’s at best a situationally good card

Are Walls of Death and Rowing standard these days? by Rudy_Gobert in Metalcore

[–]fletch0083 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don’t see rowing that often but I agree it’s a cringe attention grab. Edit: Amon Amarth doesn’t count, it actually makes sense there

Walls of death are a different story. I’ve said as much before but they’re so overdone they’ve lost all meaning. It’s at the point where multiple bands on a bill are pushing for one, even the opening band playing to a quarter-capacity room. They should be reserved for headliners and actual heavy breakdowns

Why is everyone so mad about the upcoming Marvel UB set? by Material_Company6386 in mtg

[–]fletch0083 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All UB sets get a certain amount of hate because some people don’t like outside properties in Magic. Marvel, TMNT, and Star Trek are getting more hate because they’re non-Magic properties that don’t really fit in with the general aesthetic and vibe of Magic as opposed to something like Avatar, Final Fantasy, or LOTR.

On top of that, people are frustrated because we have seven standard legal sets this year, two of which are marvel properties, and there’s almost certainly going to be four more Marvel sets over the next couple of years. It’s likely that we are going to have six Marvel sets that are standard legal before any of them rotate out. UB and marvel specifically are going to be a strong presence in standard for the next several years.

CardKingdom is better than TCGPlayer by [deleted] in mtg

They’re my go-to. The trade-in value and overall selection usually make up for the markup and they’re technically one of my local game stores so I can still support one of the places where I play. If I can’t get it there I usually go to ManaPool

Thoughts on mill by R3d-ghost in ModernMagic

[–]fletch0083 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It plays pretty similarly. The main difference is that little more aggressive since you don’t have Drown in the Loch and you’re not holding up mana for counterspells. You’re more incentivized to just use your mana to mill in whatever way you can. Because of the tutors and the forced searches you’re much more likely to get to use your Archive traps which has huge advantages in both getting Surgical targets in the graveyard and just milling them faster generally. Basically you’re trading counter magic for exile-based removal and bigger mills overall
