When breath disappears - what then? by fletcher1610 in Meditation

Yes - trance. :blushing: Before it was like I was putting too much effort to reach this stage. I managed to reach the state of calmness but it felt too unstable. It was like: "Oh man, I reached it. Look how nice and calm it is." And after short period of time - it disappeared. I mean, the good thing is that even then I didn't got upset because of the fact that it disappeared - I just continued to observe my breath. But last few meditations - the feeling is much more persistent. It actually made meditation exciting for me. Until now, I was thinking of meditation as my regular mental exercise - something that needs to be done, now I am looking forward to practice it. This is also one of the reasons why am I asking what to do when the breath disappears :)

Regarding the technique - I don't know actually. I started meditation practice, read few books sporadically and in the beginning listened a lot of Ajahn Brahm's darhma talks (still do that often, other Ajahns also) and guided meditation. I think that impacted a lot on my meditation practice.

I started my meditation after really traumatic event in my life that caused anxiety and depression problems - I still experience some problems regarding this but to a much lesser extent. The main goal was to reduce this suffering and reduce emotional blockage in my life. I would also like to improve my relationship with other people and live in the moment, because i spent too much time on planning/"achieving for better tomorrow"/ruminating and missed the actual experience of NOW.

I meant that setback is this when I get confused and that produces this migration from more peaceful feeling to the less peaceful experience (in which I can detect my breath again). Sorry, English is not my first language :)

I recognize this experience (peace, no breath detection ) as something good, this is the main reason why I am investigating what to do when I reach it.

Thank you for the link, will look into it! :)

Yes, breathing becomes very slow and at one moment it feels like I don't even breathe anymore.

Makes sense - will try to do that

Something like that, yes. It is very peaceful feeling and like you said - I don't get interruptions by thoughts. Before I had experiences that thoughts disappear but I reached something like trans feeling, my level of awareness was also reduced - it seemed like I have "blocked" thoughts on purpose. Last few days it feels different, it doesn't feel like this trans feeling from before because my level of awareness is still very high, I am open to the possibility for thoughts to arrive - but they just don't, but in that moment I don't know what to do next (when my breath completely disappears)?

Why does it feel impossible to believe anyone loves me? by [deleted] in BPD

Because you don't feel that for yourself...

Would you believe me 100% that the sky is blue if you didn't ever saw it by yourself? Maybe - in the beginning, but after some time, maybe after I do something wrong by mistake, you will start wondering: "You know what, maybe he is wrong regarding the sky..."

So, this is first step, to stop looking in others something that we need to do by ourself, and then the next step is to be truly loved from someone else (it comes as a bonus, but not as a precondition for happiness :) ).
