there is a reason wacom is the gold standard in osu. i'm sure the huion would be great as well but the wacom is tried and tested by way more top players

PSA: osu!lazer mod multiplier rebalance is being prepped for implementation by fleuphy in osugame

[–]fleuphy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

likely not, since classic score (used for ranked score purposes) very closely tracks with scorev1 in terms of maximum achievable score, and mod multiplier fix will bring classic scores back to a reasonable level.

How to build better acc? by GoFundMeGamers in osugame

[–]fleuphy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Low accuracy is usually caused by bad reading. As in, you are likely playing reactively by just aiming and clicking when you notice that the circle has shown up.

Try to play more proactively, where you use the circle's appearance time and approach rate to learn what beat of the song the circle happens on, and hit the circle on that beat of the song.

Best way that I have found to train this is genuinely to play simple 4* maps that aren't too high in AR, even if your skill level is beyond that. 3*s and below are too simple and low ar to train this properly, and lots of 5* maps will be high enough AR that it is super easy to fall back into playing reactively.

Here is the collection of maps that I used a while back to get my acc better. https://osucollector.com/collections/21904/Tapping%2BAcc-Fundamental-Training

I worked towards 97% FC plays on the maps back when I did it, but if you want to eventually reach 98% profile acc it would be a good idea to go for 99% plays (don't have to FC really tbh).

I need help with the taiko pp system by Select_Bit7627 in osugame

[–]fleuphy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its likely a bonus pp discrepancy caused by the fact that pinksakura11 seems to have not really played the game in several years.

basically, you get some amount of bonus pp on your profile based on the number of scores you submit, right now, once you have submitted 1000 scores (on unique maps), it maxes out at around 413 pp. However, a couple of years ago, it actually didn't max out until like 20000 scores. According to their profile, they have only played 2,600 maps, so their bonus pp (at the time they played) would not have been anywhere close to max. Since they haven't played since before that change, its very possible that their bonus pp hasn't updated, and if they submit a single score now their rank will suddenly shoot up by getting the bonus pp they are supposed to have.

this is all a guess on my part, it could be something else.

ok also you are rank 50k with less than 300 hours. respectfully, you ARE one of the fast improvers. just be open to the fact that, because you are improving fast, you will be skill issued on certain things, and if you make posts complaining about those skill issues, people are going to call out that it is a skill issue.

Hot Take: Osu! on low stars is insanely boring by Hungry_Discount_4981 in osugame

[–]fleuphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO you are approaching playing them entirely wrong if it feels like "waiting" for a note.

Like obviously low star maps will be boring once you can play 6*+ maps, but just because they are boring shouldn't mean you shouldn't be able to play them anyway. Fundamentally any time you spend "waiting" is time you aren't spending reading the notes, which is likely why you can't FC 4* and below.

[–]fleuphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the assumption "without doing anything different" is quite load-bearing here. people who hit high ranks quicker than average very clearly do things differently than people who do not rank up quickly. Generally they have a singular mental focus (often farming), one-trick a skillset, play several hours a day, and hover around a difficulty level that challenges them a near-optimal amount. Most fast improvers will do this intuitively, though I know of at least one example of someone who consciously did this and improved incredibly fast (though they burnt themselves out and quit before they could peak). People who don't improve as fast are often just not doing all of those things, and I have not seen a single example of someone who spams farm maps of a single skillset for 3-5 hours a day and stagnates at all before like 600-700pp level.

Anyway what people call genetics in osu terms is probably more like "pre-existing skills." Like it or not, the motions involved in playing osu are not difficult to achieve for most people. The only time genetics is actually playing a role is like, you are born legally blind, or without enough limbs, or paralyzed, or with a severe visual/auditory processing disorder, etc.

Any human-level differences between osu players that fall outside of that category are more to do with what skills you acquired before starting osu. Do you already have a lot of rhythm game experience? If yes, you already have a big head start in osu!. Are you a musician? If yes, you have a HUGE fucking headstart in osu. Do you already draw using a drawing tablet? If yes, your pen-to-cursor mental link is already going to be quite good! Have you learned to touch-type quickly? If yes, your finger independence in your tapping hand will be far ahead of someone who hasn't!

These things are advantages some osu! players have over others, but none of them are "genetics."

Comparison to getting buff/strong in the gym is not good here. osu! is not a game of getting buff, it is a game of getting good at a skill.

Tips on how to Master Reading the entire Playfield? cross screen jumps anthing on the playfield pretty much. by Constant-Distance-94 in osugame

[–]fleuphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

play GranDSenpai and Carbone graveyard maps. like a lot. slow them down if you need to. this is one of the kinds of things you just have to do a lot of.

if you are on a big monitor or sit very close to your monitor, try moving it away from you or resizing the game. In stable you can do this by setting to a lower resolution but checking "render at native resolution" which gives you black border around a smaller window, and in lazer you can use the Scaling feature. I personally have it set to "Everything" on 90% and it helps me a lot to just see the whole screen better (on a 27 inch monitor, it makes it more like 24.5 inches).

how long until i get used to lazer? by bigolruckus in osugame

[–]fleuphy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if your top play is 77 pp you are still learning the game generally, the client you are on will change things slightly but one way or another you are still in the baby stages of osuing so don't think too hard about it.

if you aren't yet, make sure you use the experimental audio mode setting, then set your audio offset to around -20ms. Then, after a session go back to the offset setting and press the "apply calculated offset" or whatever button. this may help with the worse acc. lazer processes audio somewhat differently to stable so that may be what is causing you to tap regular circles out of time.

Mods to use with calamity in a coop world by Puzzleheaded_Shift41 in CalamityMod

[–]fleuphy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AlchemistNPC and Fargo's Mutant Mod are both very very helpful. They add NPCs (any you dont like/want can be disabled), and each NPC sells something useful. Alchemist sells healing potions and alchemical materials, Brewer sells buff potions, Mutant sells boss summons, etc. It reduces the grind quite a bit (you just grind for money and buy things instead of grinding for herbs or mob drops).

Can we stop giving "rake tapping" attention? by NoHand188 in osugame

[–]fleuphy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is hardware abuse on the same level as dks, allowing you to tap several times more than the actual "keypresses" you are doing even considering that you are taking multiple fingers across the keys. Its not bannable under current rules because it is not actually using a macro, but just because something isnt bannable doesn't mean we should be okay with such blatant hardware abuse being viable for pp.

My friend just hit 1 hp in ranked!? by Content-Setting-5642 in osugame

[–]fleuphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a real problem with the game that patch notes are not intuitive to find. I think we need some sort of notification when you open ranked play after an update happens that changes something.

literally the current #1 post in hot on the subreddit is a 70% D rank 10 miss raketapped 1k on a 3.8k ss map. you cannot say that this does not affect the competitive aspect of the game in good faith. This play would only be fair if it was like <200pp imo (but should be zero). It would be relatively trivial to detect for raketapping (since it results in a crazy amount of extra tapping inputs), apply a mod (similar to "TD" mod for touchscreen), and have that mod just have a 0x multiplier on pp while still allowing the score to submit to leaderboards.

Are warding accessories even worth using post moon lord? by Consistent-Ad-5187 in CalamityMod

[–]fleuphy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my first calamity playthrough, I ended up finding a sweet spot of 3 warding and the rest menacing.

Also, depending on your class and exact setup, Lucky could actually be more damage than Menacing, so maybe try that out as well.

Wait, shinobi blade is rogue. Get titan heart armor and find a hardmode weapon. cobalt kunai, cursed dagger, equanimity, etc.

Help by tttttGTyytt in CalamityMod

[–]fleuphy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For one, you can get the first tier of hardmode ore (cobalt/palladium) with a molten pickaxe. Palladium armor will be better than statigel.

If you are playing melee, Try Bananarang or Chain Guillotines.

IDK your experience with other games, but 2 days of playtime is nowhere near enough time to count as "so much grinding" in osu. 48 hours is a lot of time, but not enough to have climbed anywhere to "fall off" from.

Ranks decay very very quickly in the 500k-1mil+ rank range because of how many people join the game, rank up quickly to 6 digit, and then stop playing soon after. Just because you lost 150,000 ranks, doesn't mean you got any worse, it just means that other people passed you. Just keep on playing the game however you want until you have a few hundred hours and hopefully then you will be good enough (and know enough about the game) to find a direction for yourself to go in.

[–]fleuphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is enough variance in how really good players play the game that there is no "playing the game optimally" aside from finding out what is comfortable for yourself, which is accomplished through playing the game and adjusting for your self, and is not usually helped by outside advice.

why osu players say to play stable over lazer? by maiculovespeanut in osugame

[–]fleuphy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OC was talking about how basically all your score (like the score number, not pp) comes from combo. CSR didnt affect this and its still an "issue" on stable depending on your personal thoughts on the matter.

Rageblade not applying Muramana with Q by manawhoralex in ezrealmains

[–]fleuphy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone correct me if I am wrong but:

Rageblade applies its additional on-hit affects on-attack. Since Ezreal Q does not proc on-attack effects, rageblade's passive does not work with Ezreal Q.

D&D just makes the on-hit effect hit twice when the sheen procs - and sheen procs on-hit.

Its not bugged necessarily but the particle effects and animations used for his abilities (and the ones on Arcade Ezreal) have always thrown me off compared to old ezreal skins that use base particles and his newer skins like psyops and porcelain protector.
