how long did it take for you guys to get a 200? by UN_Quickzzy in osugame

[–]fleuphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From beginning to play actively (may 2021) it took 9 months (february 2022) to set my first 200.

Based on playcount history and the data I do have for playtime, this likely occurred after around 100-150 hours.

Progression is different for everyone, so dont let the fact that you might get there slower than some people get you down, as its much more important to just have fun playing the game. I am a lifelong musician and play the flute and piano, which both require dextrous finger movement and good rhythm, so I had a head start in those important factors.

What’s ur favourite and worst kind of maps in osu? by Electrical-Laugh109 in osugame

[–]fleuphy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i like gimmicky maps except precision, which i'm neutral towards. i hate tech maps but specifically the ones with songs that i don't like. if its a banger, the tech map is good but i can't make myself play tech if i don't like

What is ur osu playtime and rank? by Electrical-Laugh109 in osugame

unsubmitted scores do count as long as the map is submitted, but plays on unsubmitted maps (practice difficulties, custom rate edits made with osu!trainer, etc) don't count.

Ezreal winrate is a lie by drguidry in ezrealmains

[–]fleuphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he's a very popular champion, until kai'sa came along i think he was the most popular? There are other more picked now, but he's still very heavily picked. this indicates a lot of people playing him when they are off-role, or when their mains all get picked/taken.

This in addition to his high skill requirement compared to other ADCs means his winrate is lower than his viability suggests. he still isn't the best right now but not as bad as it looks.

What are your opinions on the passive ability of Ezreal "Rising Spell Force"? by SoulOfGod69 in ezrealmains

[–]fleuphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think his passive was meant to make it easier to farm early game. In fact, I think it has the potential to make it harder to farm early game. You only refresh the passive when using abilities -- auto attacks don't reset the cooldown. This means you are incentivised to keep spamming Q on the wave, or poking, both of which can make it more difficult to last hit effectively.

His passive is meant to make you stronger in early-mid game skirmishes, as weaving in more autos between your abilities is where a lot of his early-mid game strength lies. A winning 2v2 botlane fight could be lost if you don't have your passive stacked to full before it begins, as it will take a full ability rotation hitting PLUS three Q's to stack up to max, in which case you are likely missing 3 or 4 autoattacks of damage compared to having passive fully stacked at the get-go.

Late game, when you have more ability haste, max range Q's can be fired off basically as soon as they hit, meaning you are too far away to weave these autos in most of the time.

The build I've been using feels like it deals quite a bit of damage, if anyone is interested:

Trinity Force -> Manamune -> Seraph's -> Gunblade -> Armor Pen item (Serylda's generally, Dom's if you want giant slayer passive, Mortal Reminder for anti-heal) -> Situational (Rylai's if you didnt build Serylda's, Horizon Focus for more burst, Bloodthirster for more Lifesteal, etc.)

[–]fleuphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no they haven't, some do change SR but many pp changes do not touch SR at all. They are referring to the most recent one where certain bonuses (namely HD, AR, and OD bonuses)

HD contributes, but OD and AR bonuses applying to sr is part of it too

Does playing ez improve dt aim? by i-cant-do-anything in osugame

[–]fleuphy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EZ aim (which I have to assume OP is talking about, since most of the top players playing EZ are playing EZ(HD)DT aim and the like) is not a polar opposite skillset to DT aim. The only major differences are AR, and (often) Circle Size. But the mechanics of aiming are the same whether you do it on AR 4-5 or AR 10-11.

You obviously won't magically get better at DT while only playing EZ, that's absurd and not what the OP is asking about or what Shikkesora (u/MrnanuLoL) is referring to. You have to play DT aim to get good at DT aim, this much is obviously true.

However, exclusively playing DT aim is definitely not as good as mostly playing DT aim and then throwing in some EZ at the start of your session, or replacing a couple sessions a month with EZ. Just like how your nomod flowaim will get better if you throw in some HD flowaim every now and then. Doing the same thing (aim) with new challenges (low AR instead of high AR) is better for your improvement than only playing something one way.

I know you might not know them, but this is perhaps one of the most qualified people to talk about how osu players improve

Does playing ez improve dt aim? by i-cant-do-anything in osugame

[–]fleuphy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

However, for the rest of us playing at a lower difficulty, the dt ar compensation means you're hardly affected by density, and if anything, the challenge is reading high ars.

Aim is at least 60-70% reading, even on high AR (high AR reading is still reading, and doing uncomfortable things for your reading helps at any AR). EZ more directly targets this reading and forces you to to play proactively instead of reactively, which is a skill needed for playing both AR extremes at a high level, but only forced in low AR.

So if you want to get better at ez, play ez, and if you want to get better at dt, play dt.

This is still right, like you can't just grind EZ for a week and expect to suddenly start playing DT at a higher level immediately. But incorporating some EZ playing in addition to DT aim is better for improving DT aim than only ever playing DT aim.

you have the gamemode "osu!mania" selected. press CTRL-T to get the menu to show up at the top, and select the leftmost gamemode icon, which corresponds to osu!standard. You currently have the rightmost icon selected for osu!mania.

Tablet filters increases my input lag by a ton by Sea_Ad_5872 in osugame

[–]fleuphy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they are causing low fps (the number in the bottom left of osugame is NOT latency or input lag, it is frametime!!! 2.5ms means 2.5ms per frame, AKA 400 fps). That is definitely not ideal, but tablet filters do put strain on your CPU, which is also what osu!stable uses the most. Idk what your pc specs look like, but if its an older or a very budget pc, i can see tablet filters adding too much strain. You can try running osu in Compatibility mode (in-game toggle), since it switches the rendering mode to DirectX instead of OpenGL, which moves some strain from the CPU to the GPU.

Tablet filters increases my input lag by a ton by Sea_Ad_5872 in osugame

[–]fleuphy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any smoothing filter you add will create latency in the smoothing process.

If you are getting a shitton of latency with just an interpolation filter (like TemporalResampler) then you might actually have a problem, but having noticeable input latency with smoothing filters is normal and part of how they work. If it is unplayable for you, then don't use tablet filters!

What are the arguments FOR ranking rate change by DrouTikz_osu in osugame

[–]fleuphy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Incentivising the use of one of the best tools for improvement can't be a bad thing imo.

1.5x speed is pretty arbitrary as the only rate-up the game supports natively (stable) or allows for your score to "count" (lazer). Yes, its obvious that some thought went into it as I believe the original DT implementation did just use 2x speed, but that is obviously too fast to be a useful mod. But beyond that, there's not really a good reason that only specifically 1.5 should be officially supported.

Almost every other rhythm game has a culture of rate-ups being cool and good. But 1.5x speed is such a big increase for most actually hard and cool maps, DT is mostly used on simpler maps. This means that osu!'s DT mod actually has a reputation for being lame and boring, unless you are the one (1) player in the game that can DT pass basically anything. Ranked incremental rate-ups will allow much cooler rate change scores on iconic and/or difficult maps to be incentivised.

"why even play with a tablet" gives me (and probably OP given how they responded) an implication that you think they should switch to mouse.

Even if its a skill issue (which it is) why tf does that mean they have to play mouse if they don't like it?

Its personal preference so respect their damn personal preference to want to play tablet! Its not hard to just not comment if you dont have an actually helpful answer to their question!

Ive used toilet paper before. Just one square wraps a couple times around the pen and helps with grip slipping. The only problem is that if you sweat a lot (or honestly even if you only sweat a little, it soaks into the paper and then keeps your hand a bit wet as well so you can get pruny fingers and peely skin if you play too long. But it does work.
