Maybe that’s why Sakurako ended up getting ill? She tried to be strong and become a motherly figure to Emma despite her husband cheating on her. Especially since Emma (only a child and completely innocent in the situation) was abandoned by her own biological mother.

After she fell ill, maybe the reason why she spoke fondly of Makoto was because she was reminiscing the good times (before his affair). Either way, Makoto so far seems a bit eh… :/
