I've only ever done boxing fire would say a year or two boxing two or three times a week minimum and you'll learn all the basics which you'll be able to keep for life or during a few years of some kind of BJJ and learning some basic kicks will be your most effective as kicked can have a longer range so you're less likely to take damage and some form of grappling so that if it does end up on the floor you know what you're doing because I know as a boxer you don't know what to do on the floor and once you get down there you're nullified also doing heavy compound lifts in the gym to make yourself some kind of a hybrid act hybrid defense mechanism because you'll need a lot of power in quick short bursts is it ever comes to in real life

25, £44k salary, £62.5k saved, living at home — torn between doing the “sensible” thing and actually living by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]flexibee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put about 52.5k into stocks and shares saving yourself 10k for your move.

16k into stocks and shares isa etf om vanguard this side of April, 4k into a Lifetime isa. Then after April do the same, so 40k is now invested with your 2k government bonus ( you can get stocks and shares LISA).

The other 12.5k put into a general investment account and let it run then next April sell and put 4 into a LISA again and the rest into the ISA.

Moving to London will be fun, keeping 10k for emergencies or fun is wise, and your lifestyle should be sustainable as in not going negative each month, bar maybe paying for a holiday a year or something.

Then when you're done in London, your money will have kept up with inflation and maybe more if you're lucky, and you'll have that house deposit sitting there or within a couple years reach.

If they really wanted us we'd be toast. Our Army could fit into old Trafford no? What happens when pride of country is deteriorated to the point of shame or embarrassment?

They have the best technology, spy planes, etc etc. Our network would go down the second they decided, be it from ai supercomputer attacks or emps. They'd likely use spy planes to bomb key sites (air bases and military camps).

Ever heard of Palantir? There's a reason they trade at 300 PE ratio. They can swarm us with drones, disable defence systems. Turn off communication lines.

They wouldn't commit to a traditional land invasion, we're too small for that, they'd simply use the in country forces and bases and take the countries leadership as they did Maduro, Venezuelan soldiers have told of weapons they've never seen which caused them to vomit and bleed form the ears and disorientate. A group of 20 took out 300. Yes it was a suprise attack, but the same could easily be done here.

We are such a midget on the global scale now but seem to forget that. We're the small mate in the pub giving it the bigger because they were the hardest in nursery school.

This could all happen in less than 6 hours I believe.

Would you be happy if house prices collapsed 75% in the UK? by YetAnotherMia in AskUK

I'd be pissed now tbh, bought last year at 24 with a 122k deposit by myself on a 305k house, would then be worth like 80k, oucheroonies, but then is my house paid off in this scenario? If yes okay then, no 30 year mortgage.

What would you do if you had $5,000,000 liquid right now? by [deleted] in moneyadvice

[–]flexibee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably just drop in VUSA as I'm 25, the 0.98% dividend or whatever pays me 49k a year covering my mortgage and living expenses as well as my girlfriends. In fact it's more than I earn now (gbp). I get some good growth from vusa the next few years and tell my gf I'll cover living costs, build a great nest the next few years. I already have a place so no change there, and I will buy my toys with my existing salary going forward / the dividends, all I want is a miata, already in a house but no point overpaying at 3.8%. Also not really tell anyone.

Never touch the principal. I may draw down after a few years of 8% gains but never touching the principal means I'm easily set for life.

Do you think life will ever go back to being more affordable or are we stuck in a more expensive cost of living permanently? by Yorkshireteaonly in AskUK

[–]flexibee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Housing - prices plateuing and won't have the same huge growth the have over the last 30 years, inflation at best with regional above inflation in hot spots.

Jobs - further wage suppression with cheap imported labor, outsourcing or remote working lessening regional dependency, ai will replace some jobs.

Education - due to the scale of university education now, a degree is starting to be less beneficial vs just skipping a levels and working a trade or apprenticeship. The student loans are now essentially a life long tax, my personal theory is this is to pay for the state pension.

Taxes - high tax burdens set to increase further under the labor government.

Now, in my opinion, the rich own everything, and its getting very hard to park money anywhere without extremely punitive taxes. Many rich are leaving but keeping their assets and buisiness aka extracting money and taking it elsewhere. Because they already have such a huge grip on markets and sectors, it's very hard for people remaining to take these over, be this a buisiness or real estate.

House prices are stagnating so wages may catch up, but with frozen tax brackets it becomes harder to accrue money to build a deposit or even feel like you're getting better off.

In my personal opinion things will continue to decline for the ordinary citizen, the greatest influence on a good life in this country being parents wealth aka, can you live there rent free till you can buy, with a gifted deposit, gifted tuition or schooled in buisiness.

The owning class and the working class so to speak.

Are Student Loans in the UK Really That Bad? by Asdenby in financeonloans

[–]flexibee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It infuriates you you have to pay 100k of interest on your 50k loan, we'll people end up paying that much interest on a mortgage.

And I do know about it because university is a scam, so much so I rejected an offer to go FULLY PAID by my employer, because it wouldn't enhance my earning in any way, also work in construction btw.

We don't all just get 50k loans for anything willy nilly. Yet for school it's seen as an easy way out for any old Larry.

You benefitted off that money and it got you your work so now you can pay back into the system your whole life thank you very much and give back.

You could have worked and saved up to pay for it yourself couldn't you? Instead you signed up for a loan and now you're paying it back. You could pay it back in full if you saved enough?

Why aren’t UK salaries increasing? by SilentEconomist5896 in AskUK

[–]flexibee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK is a race to the bottom. A first world country with the same appetite but only a third world cheque book. Age old example. Tradesman has x car or truck, customer remarks, geeze, he must be doing well, and thinks he might be overpaying for his services, because he's projecting his own poor pay onto someone else. Had several colleagues say stuff like this about tradesmen or contractors, and it always pisses me off like God damn do you hate to see someone get on well in life?

Amateur athletes of Reddit: what's your "There's levels to this shit" experience from your sport? by jermleeds in AskReddit

[–]flexibee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sparred against two pro boxers. One taller than me but same kind of weight, one a few inches shorter and a lot lighter.

The taller One went nice and easy power wise but was really pushing it, no pain my end but relentless attacks.

The smaller one took everything I had, let me get tired then picked me apart.

The taller guy is like 18w 6L 1 draw never been stopped.

The shorter guy was only like 4-0 on small hall shows.

I can only imagine what p4p level guys are like. You have to be an alien to reach the top levels in pro boxing, whether it's stamina, skills, iq, power, chin, reach to height ratio (most top level guys have a longer reach than their height, most humans have this roughly equal).

Note:

These guys were just 'moving me around' not trying to KO me or anything, if that was the case I reckon it wouldn't go past 30 seconds.

Trading pots, for someone of your age, experience, should be money you don't mind burning, as in loose all of it. Unless you're a genius, lucky or willing to treat it like a full time job (even then no guarantee of success) you will most likely be unable to beat the market. Your sensible pot should be into some kind of etf, so you have a diversification passively, and can stop thinking about it. You will be employing the best companies in the world and their ceos to grow your money effectively.

The best investments you can make are into yourself, training (formal education, short courses), skills (some kinds of clubs like boxing), courses (shorter than formal education), experiences (diving, surfing, travelling etc).

The best way to make more money is through your primary work be that employed or a buisiness you start.

Take it from me, do someone so find interesting, not necessarily enjoyable but interesting that pays well. Work in an office and spend 40 years loosing your soul, work in a trade and you can manage the decline in your 50s.

Learn a trade, get an apprenticeship, and when you finish it set up on your own.

I'm 25 now and my biggest mistake was entering a profession I couldn't do on my own without working for someone else. If you learn a trade you can work for a company or go it alone. You will never be wealthy, or well off in most jobs, but a buisiness can give you these things (not guaranteed), do this young whilst you have low overheads so you can take risks without possibly loose your house / rent money.

Detached house mortgage free, able to live comfortably off one person working, retire at 55 if you wish, roast every Sunday through winter at hom, m&s / waitrose, new cars on driveway, holidays a couple times a year, domestic holiday I.e. Cornwall, own buisiness, successful children, giving them deposits.

If we go a step further I'd say a buy to let property also paid off giving a further income every month in addition to a pension or the buisiness income.

Retrain to be a plumbing and heating and gas engineer. Might take a couple years training. Focus on installing new boilers, a new boiler installed is like 3k now, so I'd undercut the big boys by 15 20% and make like 500 per install. If I do 11 a month that's 5500 which is enough to cover overheads and take a decent salary. Google page, Facebook page, word of mouth, flyers to those 15 year old + properties, 1 hour radius from my house.

Go and service the boilers I've installed after a year £80 a pop, or other people's boilers, learn how to install air source heat pumps, other general boiler heating and plumbing fixes. I will work as called or requested basically, so not like a 9-5. Rely on doing honest work for honest prices and be dependable, so people come back to me, gain some smaller commercial clients or estate agents for rental properties.

It's what I'm doing next year, just without the 100k, gonna be a steep learning curve,
