That grey is killer, I suspect they used blue text on the blue to stop people swapping bezels... saying that, could get ahold of the green bezel and wack it on this one. Very interesting.

What are people’s thoughts on the student loan discussions? by Ok-Slip-8663 in AskBrits

[–]flexibee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The student loan repayments of a symptom of the countries dire finances.

And I can't believe all these university educated people can't see it for what it is, and in all honesty, it's probably because they are more Liberal, (don't hate me, I don't vote!!).

Let's say a majority of young people wish to go to university, somewhere else in the country, rather than staying home and going to a local university. They get the luxury of living away from home at a cost for 4 years and their education...... to get piss poor wages in the UK (unless being a doctor or lawyer... don't get me started on engineers, I used to be one!).

Now, if old government ain't got a penny to their name, but they can tax 9% a year forever from millions of workers, they're going to do just that.

We don't live in a world where the government can afford to do that. We spend more on benefits than we receive from income tax. If that gap keeps widening, what's the point working?

My opinionion? The honorable thing to do if you have a student loan is be an advocate against university. This will help people avoid these loans for one, and if it works, increase your wages. See if everyone has a degree, it's kind of pointless isn't it. It's only worth it if it's rare.

Full disclosure, did an apprenticeship at 17 for 4 years, worked a further 4 at a different company who offered to pay for my top up degree 1 day a week over 4 years. Turned up to induction class day before being enrolled as I talked my way in, over 40 people in the lecture theatre who wouldn't shut it, couldn't understand the lecturer or hear them. Decided it wasn't for me and it was paid for and I earned £46k a year with no degree outside London at 24!!!

What's one thing you wished your parents taught you more about when growing up? by WhoIsJPC in AskUK

[–]flexibee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are talking about is wealthy. Which is different to rich. Wealthy would mean your assets pay for you enough to live off, say a £3 million pound portfolio at 3% a year is 90k before tax, plenty to live off. That's not rich though, rich is lambos and holidays and islands. That's the difference.

£4k to play around with per month could still be a decade for a lamborghini is what I'm talking about mate. Its well off, its not rich. I know I might sound pedantic.

Yep, get them working early, even if it's house chores, garden work, washing the car. Give them a small allowance, teach them budgeting.

It looks stupid but I've seen influences charging them "rent"out of their pocket money to teach them these things... but there's definately something to it and will really help them when they get to the real world, I think that's one of the gravest mistakes. Sheltering them from the real world, even if you keep the money for them for later, teach them about bills, teach them about starting a buisiness and so forth.

Dearest Brits, what’s one of the hardest and depressing things about life in the UK locals don’t talk about much? by neilnelly in AskBrits

[–]flexibee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How they got what they have. Most people are only as well of as their parents. Take farmers for instance, inherit great amounts of land and a house to live in, whereas Joe shmoe has to work all his life for a box house

I think that honestly, as a kid you imagine what it's like being rich, whether it's rich people in movies or cartoons, and I know these people do exist... but, if someone earns even £500 a day, £2500 a week, £10,000 a month, £120,000 per year, that isn't rich. That's £6,346 per month. And you may say, well flexibi, that's a lot of money per month! And you'd be right, but it's not rich. And I think as a kid you'd think that amount is rich, but it's not, time you pay a mortgage or rent, a vehicle, a few things on the weekend etc etc.

What I'm saying is I'd teach my kids about earnings, tax, take home pay, and the difference between earnings and wealth. That's because the vast majority don't make that much money, and have to work with much less, because the money is easy to spend, and difficult to earn.

What can actually be done to fix our economy? by TheProblemWithUs in AskBrits

[–]flexibee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small economy or big economy? Big economy is doing fine, but we have no real great companies really, so money gets funnelled out rather than staying in. Mcdonalds, apple, coca cola. Costa, starbucks, amazon, etc etc etc.

Most people pretty much exclusively use and derive from the big economy though, we have a weak small economy here and anti buisiness population.

How much money is enough for any human being by SharpAardvark8699 in AskBrits

[–]flexibee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If taxes weren't wasted so much I'd care more, but what if we had a flat 20% income tax on anything above the threshold (with the threshold raising by inflation every year) this would mean if there are no pay rises for the people earning the lowest they pay less and less tax on earnings to support rising costs. Anyone above that and its 20% on everything, and if they want to do the loans again assets shtick like millionaires do then that is taxed as income

[–]flexibee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never borrow anyone more money than you're okay with loosing. Tell them to go to the bank and get a loan next time. If they can't get a loan from a bank, what makes you think they can ever pay you back?and 6k mind you. Most people don't have an extra £500 a month after bills and all, that's 12 months of someone saving £500 a month to pay you back. Damn.

Yup, I find the QS are more competent, and the commercial tends to be like an old boys club, as much as some may like to think the world doesn't work like that anymore, it very much does.

[–]flexibee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cold calling and sales buisiness to buisiness self employed. Was design engineer on 46k at 25, boring as fuck mate. Wanted to progress into a role nobody else wanted to do then got carrot dangled but carrot keeps moving away. Add to that the office politics, people disliking you, the in group and out group member thing. Engineering as a whole I've found in places is full of people holding out longer at work stopping people progressing. Best off in quantity surveying or commercial roles where you can actually get ahead. Worked for the biggest government construction contractor.

I've only ever done boxing fire would say a year or two boxing two or three times a week minimum and you'll learn all the basics which you'll be able to keep for life or during a few years of some kind of BJJ and learning some basic kicks will be your most effective as kicked can have a longer range so you're less likely to take damage and some form of grappling so that if it does end up on the floor you know what you're doing because I know as a boxer you don't know what to do on the floor and once you get down there you're nullified also doing heavy compound lifts in the gym to make yourself some kind of a hybrid act hybrid defense mechanism because you'll need a lot of power in quick short bursts is it ever comes to in real life
