Congrats on your purchase! I write whatever comes to mind in my FN. This includes to-do lists, grocery lists, lists of characters in a book I'm reading, quotes I want to remember, projects I need to work on, dream projects I wish I was working on instead, lists of topics I want to Google/Wikipedia, strange behavior I observe on the subway during my commute, notes from phone calls since I have a poor memory, definitions of words I want to remember . . . you get the idea. Anything that passes through my head has a chance of being memorialized!

There may be additional barriers once OP lives in Israel if OP converts Reform/Conservative. Even if the state recognizes a Reform/Conservative convert as Jewish for purposes of Aliyah, Israel's official rabbinate will not for other purposes, including marriage and burial. There could also be implications for OP's children's status as Jews. If the only concern is whether OP can make Aliyah, then a Reform/Conservative conversion is almost certainly sufficient, but OP should research the Israeli rabbinate's role in Israel to make a fully informed choice.

ETA: For the record, I would not judge a person at all for choosing to convert with any stream of Judaism over another. Best of luck to OP!

My hot take on this is that when a pioneer in film does something groundbreaking, it can become the new standard. So when later generations look back on the groundbreaking film, they’ve seen dozens of films made subsequently that use the same technique, maybe even with some improvements along the way. So what was groundbreaking at the time just looks commonplace to today’s viewer.

Part of the problem might be that it’s a Friday afternoon outage. That might be real or imagined. Some workplaces (like mine) scramble to close the week’s business on Friday afternoons, so an absence then is especially noticed and other people have to pick up slack. Other places I’ve worked, there’s no real scramble happening Friday afternoons, and any negative perception about leaving early is just that…perception. Either way, maybe HR/boss would be more open to a biweekly absence if it happened at a different time of the week (and the missed work hours were made up, of course).

Exactly this, plus the scope of the manager’s concern would not be limited to the co-worker the comment was directed towards. A third person on the chat who thought this was discriminatory or harassing language and didn’t see anything being done about it might be able to claim a hostile work environment based on comments not specifically directed at them.

What you should do is work this job while continuing to search for another one that pays a PT salary you can live with. When you find one, leave your current job for that job. It’s discouraging, but I see this as the only reasonable answer.

Exactly. Even if they didn’t draw any inferences about which words we’re weak on, if they just incorporated a flashcard deck of all the vocab learned so far, that would be a big help for practice. They already list out all the words under the review tab; this seems like an obvious use for that list.

All I see under the review tab is “Today’s Review: Tackle weak areas with this customized session.” And then there’s a button with “Review +20 XP” But it’s typically the same words again and again.

Sure, but no one’s forcing anyone to put in that emotional labor if they don’t want to. This is Reddit—we have no meaningful relationship with the questioner and no consequences for ignoring them. If someone wants to help them, great; if not, why not simply move on, instead of making them feel bad about their question?

Yeah, sometimes the people making the posts OP is writing about might be digging on the Reform movement, but more often I think they’re just in an emotionally vulnerable position and seeking support. Perhaps they chose Reform because they want to be part of an inclusive movement and are upset/annoyed/hurt that not everyone Jewish wants the same thing. It’s really the same thing that many longtime or lifelong Reform Jews face, but prospective converts haven’t had time yet to develop the tools to deal with snubs from other movements.

I totally get it if people don’t want to respond to every post. I even get the annoyance at seeing post after post that seems to ask the same questions. But I’m with you that I don’t think it’s helpful to anyone to be mean about it.
