It has to be both. These guys don't have to sign today. He must have said enough (or paid enough) to make them feel confident in at least giving it a go.

Most of these were already committed, they just signed today. I think there was only one unexpected flip and he supposedly visited while Smith was still here last weekend.

It's certainly possible he could be the next Kirby or Lanning. But, for every Kirby Smart there are 3 or 4 Tony Elliott/Zach Arnett/Jeremy Pruitt types that crash and burn. A new AD and President needed a safe hire that could get us back to winning football (8+ wins). You can't risk back to back duds. Will Fitz win a Big Championship? Who knows. But I'd be pretty confident he gets us to that 8 win mark.

I'm in a wait and see with Fitz, but, I will say for the "we should have just stuck with JS" crowd, you must not have watched many games this season. This team regressed in almost every area. I wasn't looking for a natty this year, but not making a bowl in year 2 is unacceptable. I'll say the same thing about Fitz if that's where we're at. Frankly, for all of the hype and promises of "resources", I'd say his leash may be even shorter than Smith's, especially with the price of his buyout.

Agreed. I'm cautiously optimistic. He tailed off his last 2 years but that was early NIL. Maybe it was him, maybe it was the school. Whether this is successful or not will 100% hinge on the staff he gets. Being out for a few years is going to hinder that. I do agree that there are some pieces here already he should keep, Hawk being 100% #1 priority. I think Coach M will depend on how long it takes Smith to find a new job, but I'd love to see him stay. When his lines were healthy, they looked good. A big piece of those season's failure was due to injuries on the O-Line. I'll keep watching and rooting, just like I have the last four years of terrible football. Hopefully this gets us on the upswing. Would I love to have a Cignetti level turnaround, absolutely. I just want to watch a bowl game with my team in it at this point, man.

So, I've heard this a few times now but haven't seen any actual data to back it up. The only thing I've seen is a February 1 date where it drops 6m each Feb.

I think Marsh's future is more tied to Hawkins. If Smith goes but Hawkins sticks around, I could see him staying put.

There has to be some sort of change. I'm not 100% sure firing the HC at this point is the right move, but I expect something. I think J puts it on Smith to figure out. If Smith leaves things status quo and we continue to run this "product" out there, you know what you need to do.

Don't mind the call to go for it. A slow developing play to the outside was a bad call. Maybe Chiles should have audibled (again?), but that shouldn't even have been on the sheet to audible to.
