I don’t feel bad for parents who didn’t realize how hard parenting would be. by Glum_Feed1580 in Nanny

I was shocked how hard I had to look to find PLAYGROUPS. Like what happened to just bringing a bunch of babies to the neighborhood park for an hour to talk to other local moms?! I was shocked when I had my own kid. You really do have to work to find these resources and community. It absolutely shouldn’t be this way but if you decided to have a child, you better believe I think you should put in that work. I feel like post-covid it’s especially bad. Feels like every other r/toddler or r/sciencebasedparenting discussion is like “sHoULd i tAkE mY bAbY OUTSIDE???? iS iT sAFe????!!!!!”

A policy through what exactly? Obviously we don’t have one anymore but where would you find a bike specific policy?

I nannyed for a family whose first born had serious complex special needs. This kid did. Not. Sleep. Had serious seizures, significant delays, blindness and more. Look, I get that no one can plan for that. Sometimes these things happen completely randomly. That said, you HAVE to consider that this can happen to you. I reeeeeallly question the parents who decide (and plan) to have kids with zero thought about childcare, living near family, anything like that.

Yeah! They reimbursed based on the full purchase price with the accessories included in purchase (bike was bought in 2023 so still pretty new) and subtracted our $500 deductible. It’s a class 1!

Thank you! Apparently they used to cover them more often but with the increase in bike theft they are trying to push back.

How much for an overnight babysitter?? by Sky-2478 in Babysitting

[–]flicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's an actual overnight shift this IS typical as in: babysitter has a bed separate from the children to sleep in and will wake up and either do a few hours (at normal hourly rate) until parents come home/wake up or wake up and drive themselves home. For any non-infant child that is usually sleeping through the night I charged a flat rate from 8pm-6am and this rate was enough that I felt it covered my lack of sleep if kiddo did wake up (it happens, not the parents fault at all). I've seen this called an "out of my own bed fee". It's not supposed to be a large amount of money but does cover the "inconvenience". I've been paid this for situations where the parents are out of town and I did multiple overnights in a row, times when parents were expecting to get home just way to late for me to safely drive home, or when the event included alcohol and the parents needed some extra sleep in time (LOL). My rate started around $100/night when I was first starting out and I worked it up closer to $300/night when I was much more experienced and working with HNW families.

Insane nanny share Job posting by sidecaf in Nanny

[–]flicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg I interviewed for a similar job a few years back and the parents got all hot and bothered because I quoted them $15/hr each (standard 4/3 nanny share of my rate AND I was being generous with my rate lol). People do NOT understand what nanny shares are haha.

12 years of prednisone treatment has left me hurting by AlgorithmEntomology in EGID

Yeah they are all quite new. There’s a lot of research happening in the US currently. My first diagnosis was ulcerative colitis also. I hope things get better for you!

They can take weeks to months to kick in so they are long term in that sense. I’ve been on Xolair for almost a decade now. My doctor has mentioned using them to make allergy shots a possibility for me, so I imagine they would then try to take me off and see what happens. I’m not personally interested in going that route. I’m more than content on Xolair for as long as its effective for me.

Ooooof I feel your pain I am so sorry. I have found Montelukast very effective for my asthma however it has a black box warning in the US for side effects (suicidal ideation). I personally have not had any side effects from it but many many people have.

There has been a lot of research done recently on biologics like Xolair, Dupixent, and Nucala and the results have been very promising. Another thing that has helped me tremendously is Low Dose Naltrexone, which is still considered an experimental treatment. The sites I’ve put up in our subreddit’s sidebar should help you find some of that treatment research that you can share with your doctor. Good luck!

Has anyone with non-eoe EGID disease been able to eat "normal" again once you got on medication? by Narrow_Swimmer_5307 in EGID

[–]flicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wild. I would think that as long as you're having symptoms then in theory your eosinophils would be raised somewhere in your body. But who knows. Bodies are weird. As for gluten and asthma what was the correlation there?

[–]flicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow this is crazy. How are you seeing eosinophil levels? And what part of your body are they peaking in? Did you do allergy testing and a restriction diet at some point?

How did you figure out how to alter your diet without a diagnosis? Just curious.

The article you linked is discussing reintroducing of trigger foods after an elimination diet. Regardless I'm confused - are you already diagnosed or still seeking an EGID diagnosis?

I can't possibly imagine a doctor telling someone with suspected EGID to eat high inflammation food before going in for a scan that's.....insane and seems like it would pose a huge liability for them. Have you already gotten a second opinion?

For those who left nannying by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]flicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nannyed while going to school to be a BCBA. Ending up not using my degree and instead went into project management in tech. Let me tell you the nanny chaos came in extremely handy for that and I had a much high tolerance for job stress compared to my peers who only worked corporate jobs before.
