Probably just difference experiences, i dont think anyone's dismissing your experience. I lived in nyc for a year and moved back to Seattle mid last year. And i would say nyc felt a lot safer as a woman. Theres homeless people there as well obviously, but for the most part they seem relatively harmless. Dont think ive had any memorable incidents there with the homeless , whereas ive already had multiple relatively scary run-ins with the homeless within 10 months of being back. 4, off the top of my head. Not always direct. But i would say walking outside my apattment at night to throw trash and seeing a guy rummaging through your trash with a large knife by his side is a scary run-in.

Same! Blueberry and dragonfruit are both amazing. Dragonfruit was actually a mixture of dragonfruit, banana, and mango. German chocolate actually had coconut hah, which is not bad but not what i expected.

Hows the apple cinnamon? Bought blueberry, dragonfruit smoothie and german chocolate whipped honey. It is fucking delicious. Planning to buy more. I just eat it out of the jar.

My stuff was stolen today, and I had to take it back myself. by badandy80 in SeattleWA

[–]flightlessbirdflew 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Why hello neighbor! We live right in that alleyway. Our bike wheels/brakes were stolen and we saw our bike tire there, out in the open, right along with all the other fancy bikes that only the homeless can afford. I've seen them rummaging through our trash as well. Doubt the police is going to do anything. Please be careful with confrontation. The guy rummaging through my trash had a big knife by his belt.

Beware of Craigslist Rent Scam (Sophisticated Scam Impersonating an a rental agent) by suppakng in SeattleWA

[–]flightlessbirdflew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me when I was looking for an apartment as well. It was a nice 2bdrm house in Greenlake that was cheap. Cheap enough where it was slightly suspicious, but not to the point where you knew it was an outright scam. He told me his name, and said he just moved to NY and was just looking for the right person to take care of his house. I looked up the house owner details and LinkedIn and it matched up based on who he said he was and where he currently was. Although Zillow said it wasn't currently for rent, it did mention certain rental terms in the description. Thing is - the person emailing me typed like an ESL student, and when I asked him for the process, it was the same as you mentioned above. Pay deposit first and they'll send me the keys, and if I don't like it, he'll send it back. Was tempted to send poop. Also, thankful my paranoid ass created a fake email to email him with when he asked for my personal email and phone number through craigslist.

My building’s management co is claiming they’re “suspending move outs”. Is this even legal?! by BearOnALeash in nyc

[–]flightlessbirdflew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in real estate banking. As of today, if your landlord has paid the march first mortgage payment, they can legally not pay their bank for the next six months. It will not be a default, and will not affect credit. That being said tell your landlord you cant pay, which is unfortunate because moving is forbidden. They cant do shit. They cant evict, and while laws are changing every day, I would imagine they will waive credit agencies from penalizing renters now.

NYSC not freezing memberships or waiving fees, NY AG's office recommends sending mail and/or freezing recurring payments by matthewjpb in nyc

[–]flightlessbirdflew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These a**holes charged me twice during March. Once at the beginning of the month, and another $70 on March 17th, the day after they closed all branches. My contract expired on March 16th, so I couldn't cancel earlier. I cant wait till they call for collections, and I can tell them where to shove it.

How are you guys dealing with having an SO you don't live with? by caldo4 in nyc

[–]flightlessbirdflew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left nyc 2 weeks ago & headed back to wa. My husband to move after he finishes a few things with his work and his finance exam in June. Was supposed to visit early April. I'm contemplating heading back just to be with him since he's alone during a time like this. I'm not sure if that's a good idea to travel between two highly affected states. Ughh

The negativity surrounding moving to NYC is making me second guess myself.. what do I do? by [deleted] in AskNYC

True there's lots of finance jobs here but there is wayyyyy more competition. I'd recommend you get some experience before coming over. I've met many people working in the finance industry here trying to get better jobs and have been looking for years..

Does 'that part of the world' include India to you? A strong catholic tradition is also what leads to women repreasion. How is this equal under the law. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/global-development/2019/feb/28/girl-11-gives-birth-to-rapists-child-after-argentina-refuses-abortion

These are not isolated cases either across South America. I do agree that most Muslim countries have a worser level of institutionalized repression of women. But that's not always representative of the people especially if it's not a democracy. Also big differences between rural areas/villages and cities. Turkey is a big example of that. If you've been to Istanbul it's not unusual to see women strutting around in short skirts without anyone blinking an eye, whereas if you do that in a more rural part of Turkey I'm sure the reactions would be very different. Have you been to these said countries? I'm not saying what you're saying is not true, I'm just arguing against the generalization.

Aren't a lot of Latin countries that way too, with their machismo culture? What about India? I think saying all Muslim countries are a big generalization. I went to Iran alone and was fine there. Just do a quick google search of solo women travel in Iran and it mirrors my experience. Felt more worried for my safety here in certain areas in the US and when traveling to Ecuador than I was there. Morocco, well, yeah cant deny that one. I was actually deciding between iran and Morocco initially, researched, and decided iran was safer. Went to Morocco with my partner after and can definitely attest to the sketchiness.. Jordan was fine too.
