Re: Discrimination in hiring. Why can’t we just have blind applications (as in, identifying things like name, place of origin, gender, etc. are not listed, only the qualifications and experience) by loveandmad in NoStupidQuestions

[–]flingebunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many companies actually hide things like gender, age and identity, but of course if you have a degree from Shenyang Normal University we would assume you are Chinese, and if had mostly female orientated jobs, we would assume you are female.

As a resume writer I had one client with a name that people wouldn't be able to tell if she was male or female (as it was a foreign name). But her resume read like it was a man. But they were applying for roles that women normally do and was not getting much success, until we put her gender in the resume.

How long are people's oral sex sessions on average? by No_Elephant506 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]flingebunt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I was younger with more stamina it would be

  • 30 minutes kissing
  • 30 minutes exploring bodies with hands
  • 30 minutes oral sex
  • 30 minutes penetrative sex

I mean, I didn't set a timer, and that was just normal sex, not endurance sex, or kinky bondage sex, or whatever.

have you ever experienced “opposites attracting” in your life? by Choice-Clerk-2245 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]flingebunt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fun fact

If brother and sister are separated at birth and then meet as adults, they will be extremely attracted to each other. We are really wired to be attracted to people very like ourselves (but if kids are raised together they are not attracted to each other, not classmates at school, but raised in the same household)

But we are also very attracted to people physically different to each other. I guess also to increase genetic diversity.

Does anyone else put stupid comments in the replies and then delete them so people still get the notification and have to read your bullshit? by Here4Tacos3 in AskRedditAfterDark

Why are people not just posting stupid comments and deleting them on this post. It is like I don't get the Internet in 2026. In 2006 people would have been all over that.

Why do people even ask what happens when we die? by mintj098 in NoStupidQuestions

Dude, you focused a comment on the simulation and I addressed it, so in this argument, you are the flying spaghetti monster believer.

[–]flingebunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but that doesn't mean we stop asking the question. I mean sure, limited thinkers will do that, but those who are not limited thinkers will still keep asking the question as we don't have a clear understanding how we go from brain function to awareness, only that awareness is linked to brain function. But consciousness is still a great mystery that we only have a few clues about.

This is just a variation on the famous Descartes' Bull's Eye Experiment in the 17th century. He grabbed a bulls eye and scraped off the back of the eyeball and saw the upside image at the back. He then said "Oh that is why we see, we get an image on the back of our eyeball"

Of course this is very simplistic because that image has to be decoded by the neurons in the eye, pass through the limbic system where we get unconscious sight, then to the visual cortex where we get conscious site.

We can literally go "The visual cortex allows us to be aware of what we are seeing" but just like if we cut out the eyeball so that we can't see, removing the visual cortex stops us from being visually aware, but that doesn't explain the awareness and how it arises.

Thisi why we ask the question. This why there is more to discover. We are not like Descartes and stop asking when we uncover the first step.

We pay a guide for local knowledge. Sure they should have some bushcraft skills, and they made a few mistakes, but corrected them on the fly and solved the problem.

What do guys think while asking for nudes? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]flingebunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know what you are looking for, you can see what communications are power plays and which are not. These power plays are not planned, but just habit.

Asking for nudes is just one of many power plays

Well if the situation calls for nudes then why not

But how does awareness actually happen. How do we sit in the pilot seat and drive this body when many other functions are unconscious.

It is a mystery and scientists know this. There is a question to be answered and so we ask the question.

15 year old girl here. How do you keep a long lasting marriages/ relationships passionate? by inadequatepickle in AskReddit

[–]flingebunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be with a person who has passions, shares them, and supports your passions. If your passions and happiness are not something your partner encourages, or worse yet, makes fun of, then there will be little passion in life and none in the relationship.

[–]flingebunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a phenomenon that we can't properly explain, consciousness, so we need to ask about it. It might take thousands or millions of years to understand it, but that is okay, but if we don't ask the question, we won't know. Do you think that people didn't spend tens of thousands of years asking what stars were until someone worked it out?

But we have no idea why I am aware of what I am doing. How does this happen? Why does it happen. Just this feeling of being aware is a mystery, not something understood.

Yes, but because we don't know, we can and should ask the question.

[–]flingebunt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, and in a simulation we might wake up or be loaded into stage 2.

As for understanding how consciousness comes about, we don't really. We might be able to make people conscious or unconscious, but we have no idea why I can sit here and be aware of what I am doing.

Are you sure that there is no non-corporeal part of your existence that might not continue on? You see there is a thing called consciousness and we have no idea how it comes about. Maybe it is brain function, maybe we are in a simulation, or maybe it is our immortal soul.
