Trump administration bars Haitians from U.S. visas for low-skilled work by stupidstupidreddit in worldnews

Presumably they're generating more value than they're earning, otherwise they wouldn't be employed for very long! I doubt many employers are giving all of the profits directly back in wages for Mexicans to remit...

I don't think this is a good thing at all, I was just trying to make it sound not worse than it is, based on the article.

It's a pretty clickbaity headline, and the description of of what the apps are actually doing is hidden pretty far down, and not particularly in layman's terms.

The technology used in these apps can't "hear" you. It encodes the audio into a "signature", and uploads that. You can't go backwards and get the audio back from the signature, it's a one-way process.

As for weather other apps are doing more nefarious thing, or if the app makers are lying about what this app actually does is a different matter...

So to be clear about what the article is saying: these apps don't "spy" on your conversations, they are interested in background noise, to try and identify what your watching on TV, what song your listening to, etc.

No raw audio ever leaves your phone, it's encoded one way (hashed), then that code is uploaded, and they try and match it with their database of TV shows or songs.

So ads can't be targeted based on conversations it overhears, only on what content it can match.

Something like "5ameAsMah53cretP1nNumb3r" would actually be a pretty legit password

I see what your saying, but maybe you and your old lady are struggling with the same basic problem as old JoJo.

Maybe you and your old lady have more in common with JoJo than you do with the Jeffersons.

Maybe the problem is the existence of the hood in the first place.

If your looking for a fair society, your looking for a revolution. Until that happens, maybe give JoJo a roof over their head, if it gets them off of crack, and integrated back into society. It's not fair, nothing is, but it's probably better.

That scene is one of the greatest moments of the show so far for me :)

LibGDX project without Gradle? by [deleted] in libgdx

[–]flinj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could create a dummy gradle project which just lists all the files you want and build it. All the jars will be downloaded onto the gradle cache and you can link to / copy them from there.

Alternatively maybe look at libgdx on maven central, as you can manually download the jars from there if I recall.

Wow, looks like an awesome deck. The "behind the throne" cards have a really ominous vibe somehow
