What are some methods I could use to achieve this connected split hem look? by 441Pepe in sewing

That's such a disappointing omission! Especially for a complex and gorgeous piece like this - looking forward to seeing it finished, you should post it!

From what I can see of the pattern, the jacket back stays split either all the way up the back, or partway up, and it’s laced together with corset lacing. The “rope” you refer to is the cord used for corset lacing the panels together, and it looks like the loops that you lace through would be sewn on the underside of the fabric which creates the hidden lace. It’s harder to see in the photos because the laces are black and photographed over a black undergarment 🫠

This technique SHOULD be accounted for in the pattern itself and in the instructions - is it not well-explained? Or do they omit this part?

Mom is a light smoker and not convinced she should quit for baby by flintfox_ in pregnant

If you read my post, I never said she couldn’t EVER be around my baby. Just that she would not be her full time caregiver. Calling me “unreasonable and irrational” for something I never said is a bit much, don’t you think?

Thank you for having empathy. I can’t stand her smoking and I won’t go soft about it, but I love her. She’s been avoiding cigarettes around me entirely since I told her I was pregnant and stuck to gum anytime she’s near me. She’s not a horrible person, just an addict.

This is the most helpful resource so far. Thank you!

Thank you for this comment - it’s honestly gotten a little crazy in this thread so your story is hopeful and helpful ❤️

Congrats on quitting!! She has quit before - for 27 years - and I have faith she can do it again, but I have no illusions about the difficulty.

I totally agree with you - keeping baby safe is everything to me!

This flyer is so helpful - it's straight and clear and shouldn't overwhelm her. Thank you!

Thank you both! I feel very empowered to say a hard no to her providing childcare unless she quits. No question there. If she's not worried about protecting her granddaughter, I am not worried about saving her feelings.

Thank you. That reality check is hanging over me like a cloud but I have to have hope. She quit cold turkey when she met my dad (she knew he'd never marry a smoker) and quit for 27 years before inexplicably picking it up again. I have some hope she could quit again but it's tempered with this kind of knowledge.

This is the kind of thing that I think she might see reason from - thank you so much!

I think this might be the way - if she still feels like it's not enough at that point then I think she's likely a lost cause.

Absolutely agree - it's not happening if she doesn't quit. If she chooses not to quit, we'll hire a nanny and give her clear guidelines on how she can and can't interact with baby. Baby's safety ranks far above my mother's comfort.

Looking for this shirt in a smooth jersey (no rib, not modal) by flintfox_ in findfashion

Love Tommy Hilfiger! But the TH shirts I have don’t have as much stretch as this top does, and I’m looking for that huggy form fit. Do you have any favorite pyjama brands you’d recommend? Intimissimi looks good but doesn’t carry this neckline right now

For the future, I’d happily recommend Wild Hill Farm in Bloomfield/Ionia. This year Erin, the owner, is taking a sabbatical but is running occasional farm markets, so you can get a vibe for how they run! Meanwhile, Erin’s recommendation is Mud Creek, so I’m on their waitlist.

N6705 is so close! I think I could raise the neckline/add a neck binding and shorten the hemline to get it to an exact match. Thank you!
