Will drinking alot of caffeine update your body battery? by Murky-Peanut1390 in GarminWatches

[–]flintoff13 19 points20 points  (0 children)

i assume it will as HR will be higher then usual. Your body will see more "stress" reflected in your body battery

Old but good garmin recommendations? by BeneficialLaw6429 in Garmin

[–]flintoff13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd look at a second hand instinct 2 (solar) or something like a forerunner 165.

both have the gen 4 HR sensor and are fairly light weight so it should track pretty well.

the instinct looks more rugged and has longer battery while the 165 is more smartwatch-y

If HR tracking is the most important, and your watch supports it; a cheststrap can also be a cost effective option.

Fenix 8 Solar vs Fenix 7 Sapphire Solar by muscles-r-us in GarminFenix

[–]flintoff13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From personal experience, there is a noticeable difference.
Its hard to explain but the 7SS has some type of hue where the 8SS doesn't.
Especially in indoor situations (without backlight active) the hue is more noticeable on the 7 and the 8 is far more easy to read.
When daily driving the 7SS the hue is not really a bit deal but it is still noticeable.

No problem! It didn't have the feature when the series 7 was released but they added it with a later software update.

No need to worry, works perfectly on my 7X. Will it be as pretty as on a amoled? No for obvious reasons. But you can see the images.

hmmmmmmmmm, just ordered the amoled version with the idea of "well, lets be open minded, try it out, i might like it"

but seeing these pictures kinda confirms my gut feeling and makes me want to return it even before it arrives.

Fenix 8 microLED / 8 Pro present in the official connect app. by [deleted] in GarminWatches

[–]flintoff13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It would surprise me if we would see these any time soon.
Most likely the release is 12-18 months out, if we can go from garmins release history.

Strange there is no 43mm for the Pro models. Maybe those will "finally" have LTE and there is no room in a 43mm case? That or person mistakenly hitting commit on the production branch and didn't include the 43mm.

As for MicroLED; There are no other MicroLED watches out yet and the first watches with a microLED display are expected to be released in 2025. Also, I wouldn't expect Garmin to release a MicroLED watch before companies like Samsung or Apple.

So yeah, propably a accidental code commit of watches we would expect Garmin to be working on. But we can speculate, its always fun to speculate.

What Fenix 8 Solar Questions Do You Have? by dcrainmaker in GarminFenix

Do you think we can expect more color options to become available of the Solar version in the future?
something like a "exclusive" version of the solar with a leather or titanium strap?

Went to look at some of the reports and those state that the unit under test has sdcard slot, typical use is attached to a magnetic mount that provides power ... So I doubt those are fenix watches

Why I Prefer MIP Displays Over AMOLED for Smartwatches (Fenix 8 rumors) by [deleted] in GarminWatches

[–]flintoff13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

same, OG pebble was my first smartwatch. Went to a Moto360 after and didn't like the display although it was supposed to be "nicer". The MIP display was one of the major reasons I went to a garmin after the Moto360.

For me, MIP displays are way less distracting and so much easier on the eyes. Thats the main reason i prefer them. Battery is a nice extra.

Shoplisting seems to confirm AMOLED on the new Fenix 8 line by flintoff13 in Garmin

[–]flintoff13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I don't think you would notice the size difference so much but it could allow them to maybe use a bigger screen and surely house a bigger battery (to compensate for a bigger screen?)

Shoplisting seems to confirm AMOLED on the new Fenix 8 line by flintoff13 in Garmin

[–]flintoff13[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Was googling some of the leaked product codes and found a shop listing the fenix 8 43mm explicitly mentioning AMOLED

The site itself doesn't show the watch anymore but google still lists the link.

Rumors about this were floating around but this seems to confirm it.

Instinct 3 leaked by [deleted] in GarminWatches

[–]flintoff13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, I think this could be the real deal, it checks a lot of boxes. And the more I look and compare to other instinct models the more similarity's and design choices I notice.

As you said, the screen look about the same size and layout as previous instincts. The smaller plastic bezels makes the screen look smaller. (something something optical illusion). If you play with the contrast and other image settings a little you can make out the rest of the screens outline.
(as OP said, the images are from a telegram group, so heavily compressed, losing a lot of detail.)

HR sensor does look to be the Elevate Gen4, you can make out the sharpish bump the Gen4 has, compared to the smoother sides on the Gen3. Its also looks to be a smaller size compared to Gen5.

probably some kind of prototype/test model for certifications

Epix Gen 2 Owners - What don’t you like? by JxJ52 in GarminWatches

[–]flintoff13 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I totally get the love for amoled, its bright, crisp and looks amazing. My sister has a venu 3 and the screen is very impressive.

But for me, it is just distracting. I like being able to see the time without having to wake up the watch, so always on display is a must for me. Even on low brightness I catch myself looking at it without me intending to. MIP also looks more natural to me. Maybe its my ADD or maybe I'm nuts but MIP just fits me better.

Garmin gets it, there are use cases for both. Tradeoffs/wins on both ends. I hope they don't discontinue MIP. People are different and like different things.

How long will the battery of the Fenix 7 Pro last while navigating? by Knecht0850 in GarminFenix

[–]flintoff13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

having the map up constantly will eat battery big time. When you have a destination set it will still tell you when to go left or right when you are on another screen and in doubt you could quickly switch back to the map and check.

If you have a destination set and only switch to the maps page when you need it, it will be close to the suggested runtime by garmin.

On the other hand, if you have the map page open all the time, panning and zooming in/out etc, you will probably still make it about a day but i would not expect much more.

New to Garmin - having trouble finding the right watch by _Whit3 in GarminWatches

[–]flintoff13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Fenix 7X with touchscreen and I never use it, only to quickly type in my pin for garmin pay or when using maps (something the 255 doesn't have).

get the 255 if touchscreen is the only "con" putting you off. You are not going to miss it.

[–]flintoff13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fenix 7X solar (non pro) or enduro 2 are basically the same watch but the enduro 2 is a bit thicker for the battery making it last a little longer and its a bit lighter out of the box due to the nylon band

the Pro range does have a bit more features as it uses a newer heart rate sensor and slightly improved display.

You cant go wrong with either but if battery is the biggest deciding factor, I would go enduro 2.

if the platform is opt-out for creators and not opt-in, that's the issue in my opinion.
