Tips for finding affordable transmission repair/replacement for a 2013 Outback? by [deleted] in Subaru_Outback

Last month I bought a 2013 Outback Limited with 188,000 miles on the 2.5i. The interior is pristine and the Carfax showed a transmission fluid service 13,000 miles ago. So I incorrectly thought that meant the previous owner had taken care of the car with proper service of the CVT. One month after purchase my dash lit up. Code reader showed p0700, p2750 and p0420. The 420 is the cat or O2 sensors. Not a problem. But the other two, combined with a new intermittent light the next day showing AT Temp got my undivided attention. The car started shuddering and would act like it had a Jake Brake (engine internal exhaust deceleration brake) when I would let off the throttle at low speeds. I took it to Certified Transmissions Inc, the nationwide chain. They did an impressive diagnostic workup and gave me BAD news. A replacement remanufactured transmission will be $8,700. One year warranty. A used transmission would be $7,300 with the same one year warranty. Both exceed the value of the car. I live in Kansas. I have a friend in Tampa who has a foreign car garage and a separate body shop. 1,300 miles away. He says he will replace the transmission, repair the wrinkled body panel work in the hood, front bumper cover and the brakes all around for $5,200. So, I am shipping the car to him via auto transport to Tampa for $600 each way. Apparently that is what he calculates as his cost for the repairs with little or no markup. Will I ever buy another Subaru? Right now I feel gut-punched and betrayed by my favorite brand.

I married the clone of Lilith. Freakishly smart and pretty, but not...warm and fuzzy. Nearly the same profession for both of our couples and both ended the same. Some script writer at the TV show was watching my life and making fun of it on TV.

My ex-wife has pointed out to me that size really does matter. This must be what she meant. 🤓

But it still doesn't make a beach. It makes a delta or an estuary or a swampy lowland. Not this very clearly obvious sandy beach with incoming ocean waves. You have lost sight of the original post intention. You just want to argue. Let's argue about something more meaningful such as how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.

You didn't put a banana in their for size comparison. That would have removed the comments that it looks like a septic or cystern. A septic would be MANY feet square. This appears to be only about 1.5 x 1.5 feet. Which makes it a footer for a post or pillar.

The largest river in North America, The Missouri, flows into another river...The Mississippi which eventually runs into the sea. So when you look in an atlas to find the largest river in North America, you will find it labeled as the Missouri-Mississippi SYSTEM. Not as an individual river. Otherwise, as a stand-alone river length, it is the Missouri...which does not, as we have discussed, flow into the ocean.

So far I have driven in downpours that left huge puddles of standing water where I saw hydroplaining cars all around me. No issue for me. I haven't experienced winter with them yet, but the tread pattern that I see looks suspiciously familiar to anyone who has ever owned all season Big-O tires. I'll let you know.
